  1. Since I purchased my Denon we have moved. Our room is considerably bigger and more open. I wonder if the extra 10 to 20 wpc would be noticeable? I also noticed the Yamaha 1060 is considerably heavier than the 860. There seems to be a beefier power supply as well as better specs on the amp. I have to wonder if the is noticeable and or worth the money?
  2. I am considering replacing my AVR-X2100. I have had it almost 2 years and it has been buggy. Particularly with the Wifi, internet radio, Airplay. Most recently I have been getting minor flickering with my HDMI switching. I am considering Yamaha 860 or 1060 as well as the great deals going on with the Onkyo 810. It seems the Onkyo only has single seating position sound calibration while the Yamaha has multiple. I have had both Yamaha and Onkyo in the past with slightly better luck on the Yamaha end. I am driving a 5.1 system with RF 62 for fronts and RC62 center and Inceling klipsch reference surrounds. Thoughts? I found some really great prices on east coast TV website on the Yamaha's. Any experience from this retailer?
  3. My Denon AVR2100x has been very unreliable as far as wifi, Ethernet, BT, and recently Airplay. AirPlay gets static sounding when I move just a few feet away from the avr. Just the other day I could not get the AVR to Conner via NT to my new iPhone 7. The iPhone connects perfectly to my car and Bose bt speaker. Anyway I am looking to move to a different avr that will suit my needs better. I am looking at Yamaha aventage series or an onkyo. I am running RF62, RC62, reference in ceiling surrounds, SVS PC2000 x1. Budget is $750. Who seems to have the best connectivity currently? I like Yamaha but seem to get more power and thx cert. on the onkyo for less money.
  4. I am getting some light pressure that my RF 62's take up space in the living room. Currently I am using Klipsch CTD 5650's for surrounds. I was wondering if anyone has experienced a full five channel set up in the ceiling? How effective is a total inceiling system? Not sure if I would pick up 3 more 5650"s or what. It is nice I can angle the tweeter. I have a single PC2000 for a sub.
  5. That's a great price. Only worry I would have is the actual shipping. Was it an authorized dealer (warranty)?
  6. Yes. I picked up my Denon for 399 from crutchfield. I would like to buy from them again as returns are easy. They have been good to me over the years
  7. Quiet_Hollow, Thank you for the in-depth notes on the Elite. Very informative. I will have to keep a look out for deal if I decide to move up from my Denon. New models coming out soon so probably some good discounts coming.
  8. What I find interesting about some reviews on sound and vision is that often the test bench results come up short on Yamaha compared to other brands. For instance s 80wpc Denon was tested at 69wpc @ 8 ohms, 5 channel continuous power. A Yamaha rated at 140 wpc tested at 46wpc under the same specs. I understand what you wrote but wonder what is with Yamaha on the test bench?
  9. I have looked at some reviews on the listed AVR's. The SC 91 seems to have complaints on a clumsy set up and Mobil app is to be desired. Also notes on a general buggy software. No complaints in power and once set up and personal touches are made people seem to be happy with the room correction. Onkyo Z800 does not seem to up convert to 4K. Great power output seems to be the consensus. Onscreen menus seem to be lacking. Respectable reviews on their room correction. Lacks specific subwoofer eq. Yamaha 1050 seems to offer a nice rounded package. Bench tests seem to show a weaker amp compared to similar rated onkyo, denon, and pioneer but seems to be the cleanest rated. Yamaha shares the same D/A converter? Highly rated one at that? Yamaha seems to offer the best onscreen menu interface and least buggy software. Room correction seems on par with Onkyo. No specific subwoofer EQ. Thoughts on the HDCP 2.2. I have to think the future of video will be streamed like what has mostly happened with music. With that being said services such as Netflix being streamed on the TV and sendin ARC to the AVR for sound, I have to wonder if 2.2 is just something the industry is scaring people into? I can see myself buying a 4K TV and using my AVR to up convert blu ray. In theory 2.2 may not be a big deal after all?
  10. Interesting responses. Not to sound ignorant but my past experience with pioneer was the typical stuff found on the best buy shelf.....not high end stuff by any means. I also purchased a Pioneer 25 disc cd changer years ago. I looked up a review of the SC 89 on sound and vision and the test bench results. It seemed like a strong showing. On another note It seems like Yamaha does not fair well on test bench results. I mostly look at the 8 ohm five channel 0.1 continuous results. For what that is worth. The sound correction sounds like a good set up. I like the dual sub eq. I may be picking up a second PC 2000 down the road. I am going to have to keep the SC 91 on my radar and maybe demo it at home when the time comes.
  11. I have noticed there are a lot of fan of the Pioneer Elite AVR's. I have been giving some thought to getting a new AVR. What makes many of all such a fans over other brands? I look at the specs of the amp (SC91) and notice they rate at 130wpc but at 1khz and not full spectrum like others. Why offer a different measurement that Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha? I can see how the cooler running amp is appealing, but what gives with listing a limited spec? Is pioneer known to be a warm sounding AVR like a Marantz or Denon? How has the wifi connection been (support 5.8ghz band)? How is the room correction compare to Audyssey Silver? I thought I saw something that the Pioneer was more like the Odyssey XT (subwoofer eq). Like I said I may be shopping for a AVR because I am getting frustrated with wifi connectivity issues on my Denon. I am also interest in little more power. Currently my short list is a Yamaha 850 and 1050, Onkyo Z800. Although the Pioneer Elite 91 has a lot going on.
  12. Similar to you we had a house built this summer. I used my RF-62-ii for the mains and a RC-62-ii for center from my old house. As for surrounds an inceiling speaker was my best option for looks and sound. I choose the Klipsch CTD-3650-Cii because like you stated before you do not want the highs simply pointing straight to the floor. These speakers tweeters swivel so you can aim it in your seating direction. I have been using them for about two months and have been pleased with them and would buy them again. Klipsch offers a mounting ring with straps that offers a fairly ridged mounting area the fits between the ceiling rafters. This is a better option to simply cutting a hole into sheetrock. Also I do believe they offer this speaker in an 8" woofer. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_714C3650C2/Klipsch-CDT-3650-C-II.html
  13. Maybe check out Denon on Crutchfield. They have some good prices on left over X4100 and X2200. I really like my Denon but will admit not 100% satisfied with its internet wifi connection reliability. It might even be just an issue I am having. I believe the 2015 models have updates that should make it better in this department. There were some good reviews on last years S900 (basically a X2100) on sound and vision website to give you an idea how they perform.. Yamaha has a nice line of receivers in the Aventage series. There is some good prices on last years RX-A 1040 out there also.
  14. I just saw this the other day also. It was the BR version. My Denon decoded it as Dolby Digital Master. Picture was great but there was some dialog issues for me. I had to turn on dialog level adjust and set it at -4.5 db. I checked other movies and did not have the same problem. Weird Great flick though. We saw it in theaters when it came out.
  15. Wifi connection seemed to work last night without a problem. Maybe this will be an intermitent problem. I wonder if I go a long periods (few days) without using wifi on the AVR it looses signal? I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it.
