  1. I use a paradigm X30 to send frequencies below 80hz to a SS amp and old Altec 416 8c in a sealed 9.5 cubic foot box. Then only higher frequencies go to my 2a3 set amp on to the La Scalas. My only limit is permanent hearing loss.
  2. A foundry sand cast aluminum K402 with gasket and bosses for mounting the K33s would offer the stiffness desired. Before you know it a powered internal dedicated electronic crossover and amplification will be next. Three across the front and inexpensive powered surrounds,,,
  3. I consider all the upgrades performed an improvement and in keeping with spirit of the originals. There is beautiful simplicity and ease to the passive networks and 2a3 amplification.
  4. I replaced all the abused components in my La Scalas. That left only the cabinet original. If it were otherwise healthy Daves horn is the only necessary upgrade. Huge improvement in how much time I can spend listening.
  5. On my La Scala all three drivers have a sealed back chamber and a mass of air forward in the horn obviating a need for a dampening factor. These are the only speakers that my 2a3 amp excelled on.
  6. Age makes the summers hotter and the winters nearly unbearable. I just got back inside from 6 degrees f and windy. Global warming is a distant concern.
  7. I thought Alaska to be a safe bet. It's cooling?
  8. I always have too many amps and set and sep have never been favored. With the la scalas this 2a3 sounds best despite reason. Just wondering...
  9. After the engineers have remastered it will lose or loose dynamic range?
  10. pull the hair for cymbals? higher pitched, heh?
  11. The la Scalas are mostly 6 to 12 ohms. How does the transformer cope with this demand?
  12. When I switch to 45 tube from 2a3, I must drop a transformer tap to change reflected impedance,What is reflected impedance? It is an ASL Orchid DT not a tulip. It sounds best off the 8 ohm tap for both tubes,
  13. ASL recommends 600 for the 2a3 and online 360 for the 45 tube along with dropping down a transformer tap. I believe there is an extra decimal place in the digital readout provided, I am amazed that this ancient technology even makes sound let alone become preferred over modern designs. Thank you for the concise explanation.
  14. I have hotrodded La Scalas and most of the time I prefer my ASL Tulip 2A3. I use 360 on the Sylvania 45 but 630 bias sounds best on 2a3c Shuguang. What is the effect of various bias points on set amps?
  15. Sorry, It is a car sales reference. More correctly, I think it refers to a third base coach advising the runner whether to round to home base. When you have another party involved in the negotiation besides the principals.
