  1. Hey Krock, I think you will like those Tecovas-The Wyatt Handmade Full Quill Ostrich Boots. Full Quill Ostrich boots are very comfortable boots. I recently bought a pair of Tecovas-The Johnny Honey Suede/Roughout Boots. Tecovas Boots are very well made & comfortable 3/4 welt boot using Goodyear welt method of construction with lemonwood pegs. Using lemonwood pegs is old school boot construction ie Lucchese Classics, Rios of Mercedes, Anderson Bean & is much better/superior than using brass nails that is predominantly used in boot construction today. Lemonwood pegs will expand & contract with the sole unlike brass nails. Using brass nails is a cheaper method of construction in boot making. I am a self admitted Boot Junkie, I am up to 54 pair of Boots now. This was a blast from the past seeing this 4 year old thread come up again. I peruse & read the Klipsch Forum all the time but very rarely post. Going out to see some Live Music in Corpus Christi, Texas tonight at House of Rock. One of my Favorite Texas Bands is playing-San Antonio Band Two Tons Of Steel is playing, they have been playing Rockabilly, Country, Americana type Music for 24 Years, they are very good in my humble opinion. Local Rockabilly Band Matt Hole & The Hot Rod Gang is opening, Matt Hole has been playing in Corpus Christi for 20+ years. Matt Hole is a Member of the South Texas Walk of Fame which is located at The Executive Surf Club. The South Texas Walk of Fame honors South Texas Musicians, each member has a square tile with a Star & their name. The Walk of Fame tiles are located in the court yard of the Executive Surf Club which has been a Live Music Venue since the late 1980's. I am also a Live Music Junkie, I go out to see Live Music all the time.
  2. San Antonio, Texas was home to both Lone Star Beer Brewery & Pearl Beer Brewery for many many years. Both are closed now. Pabst Brewing Company owns Lone Star Beer & Pearl Beer along with a number of other Beer Companies-Schlitz, Strohs, Pabst Blue Ribbon and a boatload of other brands. Pabst Brewing Company does not own a brewery. Pabst farms out their various brands of beer to be brewed. Lone Star Beer & Pearl Beer are brewed at a Miller Beer Brewery in Fort Worth, Texas. Back in 1970's when I was a Boyscout. Troop 232 made a weekend trip to San Antonio. We stayed at Fort Sam Houston Army Base and slept in some spare barracks. We toured the various Old Catholic Church Missions around San Antonio. We went to the Lone Star Brewery Musuem. I remember the Lone Star Museum having some weird stuff-a calf with two heads, cows with their horns inverted & growing into their head.
  3. I have read from various Internet Sports Sources that Kyle Orton, the Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback wants to retire. He will be walking away from a $3.25 million dollar paycheck for the upcoming football season. The Dallas Cowboys don't want Orton to retire and are trying to persuade him not to retire. Orton was given a $5 million dollar signing bonus when the Cowboys signed him. The Cowboys will force Orton to pay back $3 million of his $5 million signing bonus if he retires.
  4. My older brother turns 60 Saturday, May 24th. My sister & I are driving up to Katy/West Houston for his Birthday tomorrow. Going to have a get together for my brother's birthday at my nephew's house in Katy. Looking forward to getting to see my Grand Nieces-age 7 & 9 months & Grand Nephews-age 5 & 3. I have never cared much for/liked the Big City of Houston, it's a nice place to visit, but I sure wouldn't want to live there. Houston is way too big and way too much of Rat Race for me. My brother & sister in law always used to tell me that Katy wasn't Houston. Ha, its approximately 20 miles or so from Houston proper. The traffic is horrendous, I have been caught up in rush hour traffic on the Katy Freeway/I10 way too many times. I don't know how people that live in Houston cope with the frickin' traffic. My reference in the title of my post Heaven, Hell or Houston is a ZZ Top song. I am on a quest to find & buy some Pearl Beer which I know is sold in Katy at Specs Liquor Store. Corpus Christi does not carry/sell Pearl Beer. A few places carry/sell Pearl Light which is crappy watered down tasting beer in my humble opinion. Andrews Distributing our local beer distributor does not provide/sell Pearl Beer to stores in Corpus Christi. I have asked about Pearl Beer at Specs & Liquid Town liquor stores. A few HEB grocery stores used carry/sell Pearl Beer 14-15 years ago. I like the taste of a good cold Pearl Beer, it's an Old School Texas Beer like Lone Star beer. I'm drinking a good cold Lone Star beer with lime/salt right now.
  5. This Old South Texas Boy no comprendes the sport of Hockey. I know ya' got hockey sticks & a puck, have power plays, body checking into the wall, lots of fights & players get sent to the penalty box for fighting & other dirty play. I don't know the rules of hockey and have only briefly watched pieces of games in the past. I really think you have to live up North where you have lot's of cold weather and been raised/exposed to hockey at a young age to like & appreciate the sport of hockey.
  6. minermark, I like your thumbnail posts, they're funny and give me a good laugh.
  7. I'm a Diehard Cowboys Fan and have been since I was a kid watching Tom Landry coach Don Meredith, Walt Garrison, Bob Hayes, Bob Lilly, Jethro Pugh, Rayfield Wright, Chuck Howley, Lee Roy Jordon, Calvin Hill etc... Jerry Jones is a very smart excellent business man and knows how to make money. Unfortunately Forrest Gump Jerry Jones is dumber than Jethro Bodean of the Beverly Hillbillies and thinks he's a Football Genius/Guru which he ain't. The Cowboys will continue to be fair to middling mediocre or worse as long as Jerry Jones remains the GM of the Cowboys. Jones ego is as big or bigger than Jerry World-his stadium and he will never relinquish his GM Duties to a Real NFL GM with NFL Football Knowledge.
  8. I'm a Diehard San Antonio Spurs Fan and have been for many many moons since the days of the Iceman George Gervin. If you know who the Iceman George Gervin is, you're an old fart like me and probably are an NBA Basketball Fan. I like the Houston Rockets & Dallas Mavericks also, but the Spurs are my Numero Uno Team. The Spurs play Old School Fundamental Team Basketball that reflects their Coach-Coach Pop. Eastern Conference Finals Sunday-Indiana Pacers vs Miami Heat. I picking the Heat to win this Best of 7 Games Series. The Pacers are Dr Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde of the NBA, they have a very good team. First half of the season before the All Star Game, the Pacers were playing excellent team basketball. After the All Star Game, the Pacers have played like caca, inconsistent, selfish non team basketball. The Pacers have gone to hell in a handbasket and limped in to the Conference Finals. The Pacers & Heat hate each other, expect lots of physical play. Western Conference Finals Monday-San Antonio Spurs vs Oklahoma City Thunder. I'm picking the Spurs to win this Best of 7 Games Series. The Spurs are peaking at the right time and playing excellent team basketball. The Spurs deep bench has been playing good and contributing/helping them win games. Hopefully Tony Pepe Le Pew Parker's grade 1 hamstring strain will not get worse or affect his play. OKC has an excellent young team, Kevin Durant & Westbrook are excellent basketball players. OKC beat the Spurs 4 times during this season. And OKC beat the Spurs 5 times during the playoffs 2 seasons ago. The Spurs always have a hard time playing against OKC.
  9. Dtel, great picture!!! Those hideous boots are very popular in parts of Mexico and Mexicano Dudes dance in them. I have watched videos on Mexicano Dudes making those fugly boots & dancing in their boots. They sometimes use garden hoses or long pieces of plastic to make the super long pointy flexible extensions and then cover it with the vamp leather. Boots will last a very long time if you take care of them, keep your boots clean and regularly use leather conditioner on them-Kiwi, Bick4, Lexol, Cadillac etc. The leather on your boots is just like your skin and needs moisture from the leather conditioner to keep the leather soft & supple. Don't know if any of y'all have ever seen severely dryed out leather on boots, the leather is hard and non flexible. Most boots can be resoled & reheeled by a competent boot/shoe repair shop. I have had multiple pairs of boots resoled/reheeled. My oldest pair of boots are a pair of Acme wingtip boots from high school bought in 1976. I have Tony Lama Black Label elephant boots from 1986. Elephant boots are the toughest leather a boot can be made of. You can wear the snot out of them, elephant leather is like an old Timex watch, it takes it a lickin' & keeps on tickin'.
  10. Cats are extremely intelligent, I'm 55 and grew up around cats my entire life since I was a baby. I own 3 cats now, strays that I have adopted. From what I saw on the News, the cat was a stray and followed the husband & wife home from a park, this is before the little boy was born. They adopted the cat even though she is allergic to cats. Tara the cat bonded with the little boy when he was a baby. She used to try and sleep with the little boy when he was a baby. The parents were constantly having to remove the cat from the crib. Tara the cat was defending her little boy, she loves him and knew that he was in danger and being hurt.
  11. Some of my boots are more comfortable than others, none are uncomfortable to me. I own some Nike Goadome ACG boots, they are super comfortable.
  12. Being a Texan I like and wear Cowboy Boots. I own 31 pair of boots from various boot makers-Rios of Mercedes, Anderson Bean, Anderson Bean Horsepower, Lucchese Classics, Lucchese 2000, Lucchese 1883, Lucchese Resistol Ranch, Tony Lama Black Label, Tony Lama, Nocona, Justin, Los Altos, Ariat, Ferrini, Custom Made Austin Hall, Custom Made David Espinoza, Old Gringo. I have medium round toe, j toe, roper toe, snip toe, wide square toe, milan toe, cutter toe, buster toe boots. I own boots made from elephant, hippo, ostrich, ring lizard, snake/python, carpincho, goat skin, calf skin, bull hide, cow hide, New Zealand lamb. I like wing tip boots, have 10 pair of wing tip boots. UPS will be delivering a 0 toe/x toe pair of Old Gringo Boots Monday from Boot Star, they have stores in Los Angeles, California & Las Vegas, Nevada. The boots were on sale. I purchased my Old Gringo Derrotado snip toe boots from Boot Star several years ago. Old Gringo Boots are made in Mexico. My new boots are Old Gringo Elvis Eagle Inlay Boots-the vamps & tops are a distressed brass brown color with aqua/turquoise eagle inlays on the vamps/tops/heel counters & aqua/turquoise collars on the boot tops. I have never worn or owned a pair of 0 toe/X toe boots before, they are super pointy. 0 toe/X toe boots are the type of boots that Country Musician Dwight Yoakam wears. Growing up as a kid we called super pointy boots roach stompers, we joked that you could kill roaches in corner wall with pointed toe boots. South Texas has lots of roaches. Cowboy boots are all made to a price point. Rios of Mercedes, Lucchese Classics & Black Jack Boots are in my opinion the three best made Premium Quality USA Factory Made Boots. Lucchese boots are too damn expensive now days, they have raised their prices big time & their lesser quality 1883 Boots are priced at what Lucchese Classics used to cost. I'm partial to and like the Rios of Mercedes Family of Boots, their mid line quality USA made boots are Anderson Bean & Olathe. Rios of Mercedes, Anderson Bean & Oalthe Boots are hand made in Mercedes, Texas-deep South Texas. They repair and recraft their USA made boots. They have Horsepower, Womens Macie Bean, Olathe Cowboy, Anderson Bean Kids Boots & Olathe Kids Boots made in a Factory in Leon, Mexico. Lucchese will only repair/recraft their Lucchese Classics line of boots. Not sure about Black Jack Boots, they are ex Lucchese employees and their boots are very similar to Lucchese Classics in my opinion. You are SOL with Justin, Tony Lama, Nocona, Ariat etc., they do not repair/recraft their boots.
  13. My nickname for Johnny Football Manziel is Johnny Douchebag. I'm an Aggie but I don't drink the Kool Aid that 99.9% of Aggies drink that think Johnny Football is a Football God. Johnny Douchebag is an Immature Spoiled Little Rich Kid whose Parents bailed him out of trouble with the NCAA over the selling of his autographs. They hired a Big Time Attorney and made the problem go away and all he got was a half game suspension against Rice. I like watching Manziel play football, I just don't think the fly by the seat of his pants acrobatic scrambling stuff he did in NCAA Football will fly in the NFL. He's going to get seriously hurt/f'ed up pulling those stunts in the NFL. I think Manziel would have been better off staying one or more years at A&M and working/honing his QB skills.
  14. Happy Belated Birthday USNRET. My older brother in Katy, Texas turns 60 May 24. I'm 55. My best friend that I grew up with here in C.C. from 1st grade through grade 12 was in the Navy for 20 years & is now retired. He was stationed at North Island-San Diego/Coronado for most of his 20 years. He did Shore Duty at the Naval Base in Fallon, Nevada and loved it there. When he got diabetes and no longer had to go out for 6 month Sea Duty, he requested a transfer back to the Naval Base at Fallon, Nevada. His Dad was a Supervisor at CCAD many many years ago. Back in the late 90's/early 2000's Carter used to be part of a Crew that would bring Helicopters from the Naval Base in Fallon to CCAD for repair.
  15. Listening to a Jarrod Birmingham CD, he is a Texas Country Music Musician from Victoria, Texas/South Texas. Jarrod Birmingham is The Real Deal, he plays Old School Hard Core Honky Tonk Country Music. His music reminds me of a cross between Dwight Yoakam & Waylon Jennings. I have seen Jarrod Birmingham numerous times when he has played in Corpus Christi at Brewster Street Icehouse. Whiskey And Lies is playing now, one of his best songs in my opinion.
