  1. vnzbd, what speakers are you using for your in-ceiling surrounds? Also, what speakers are you running for your LCR and do they work well together?
  2. I like that idea for your situation, Youthman. Unfortunately, for me, I'm not doing a dedicated theater and my space (a large bonus room upstairs) doesn't have any wall where I need to put the side surrounds. I have an area that's about 15'(W)x19'(D) where I have the projection screen/theater area. Next to that (but open to that space) is a pool table (so about 13x19). Besides the fact that I also wanted to keep my pool table, I couldn't really use the full space for a theater anyways, since the one wall has the steps coming into it and another cutout on the other end of that wall, and the far wall has an opening in the middle for a hallway to a storage closet and bathroom. So, I could really only put a large projection screen in the one place that I decided to put it. So, my only option for using wall-mounted side surrounds would be to drop a mount down from the ceiling on the one side and I'd have a random speaker floating in mid-air (definitely not good for WAF)! That's why ceiling-mounted is really my only option. I'm just trying to figure out what my best option would be for mounting in the ceiling. I'm wondering if a standard bookshelf speaker-type would work (I know the speakers inside the bookshelf cabinet would be rotated by 90 degrees). I'm not worried about sound bleeding into the attic area (since there's no living space above/next to that area). I'm just trying to think outside of the box and come up with some sort of plan.
  3. Thanks to everybody's advice on another topic I had, I'm planning on using RF-62 and RC-62 for my fronts/center. However, I'm torn about what to do on my side surrounds. I don't have a wall on one side of the area to easily attach an on-wall speaker, so I was thinking about going with in-ceiling for the sides. Any suggestions on in-ceiling surround speakers that I should consider? Or, and I know this sounds crazy, but since I have nothing but full attic space above the area in question, should I consider putting a bookshelf surround flush with the ceiling?
  4. Thanks for the advice everyone! Bsdme2, I was thinking about how if I toe them in a little anyways, that would also buy some more space. I can now go back to leaning towards getting the 62's all around. Of course, after checking out craigslist (it had been so long since I was on there, that I forgot how addictive regularly checking all the surrounding craigslist areas can be), if that guy selling his pair of CF-2's wants to come down off his $475 price, those are some beasts, and I saw a guy selling his SVS PB-12/2, which would be a nice monster of a sub, and .... OK, time for me to go get off the fence and get out there and try out some speakers and pull the trigger on something!
  5. I have an older set of Synergy bookshelf speakers and a center channel (only way I could gain WAF back then). I've always enjoyed the Klipsch sound, but I'm looking for something to put in a home theater projection setup. At first I was looking to get some tower speakers from the reference line (either the RF-62 or possibly RF-82). However, those are rear-firing and I really don't want to give up the extra space to pull them off the front wall where they need to go, as opposed to a front-firing speaker where I can put them up closer to the front wall without as many issues. Obviously, there's the F-30, but if you guys have any suggestions on something else that you think I should try and find and take a listen to, I'd appreciate any suggestions. If I go the F-30 route for the fronts, should I still consider the RC-62 for the center?
  6. I will have a 3" border on mine, so I was thinking that I should be ok. I just haven't tried a recess that far in. Maybe I should screw my recessed screen wall when I tie into the false walls on either side for the front speakers, so I can undo it easier and move it up some if I need to, I suppose. I just thought I would ask you experts, in case anybody had found out the hard way from a previous install how far was "too far" for the recess distance.
  7. Sorry if this a little off topic, but I saw you mention you were planning on having an 8" recess for your screen from your false wall. What have any of you guys found to be the maximum distance for the recess distance? I was planning on having about 10-11", but was concerned that might be pushing it. I know there's a concern that if the recess gets too big of a distance, then you have to worry about the light from the screen reflecting noticeably off the inside of the recess area.
