  1. Hello, I was the person who started this thread. I want to thank everybody for their help and valuable comments. I have bought a new pair of Khorns from a local dealer at close to dealer cost. I would like to fix the old pair by adding new horns, and will probally sell them. Thanks for the offers qman and jon warren, I may have a freind who might want to fix them, and will try to get him to contact you. Best Regards, Bob
  2. Hi Gil, you are quite an authority on the sl version of horns. The drivers on the midrange are atlas pdv-5 series. The tweeters are metal versions of the ev T-35 alinco magnets and are well built. My version of horns were bulit by a rep in the company around 1978 from diy kits that were opffered at the time. I contacted the company and asked about specs on them, they said they didn't have any information about them, I know this isnt true. They just didnt want to talk to me. AS far as a comparison to the klipschorn, their sound is more refined and they are not built as well. I have decided to save my money and buy a pair of klipschorns, just got to have them. I really dont know enough about the speakers to improve them. I have learned a lesson though, make sure you check serial numbers on all klipsch speakers these are a clone, the seller said they were klipsch, they are not just a imitation. Thanks for your help, Bob
  3. No, I am not the same guy who had the spl horns on ebay. I however did see them they are a exact match of mine. Thankyou for your advice and help. Best wishes, Bob
  4. I have a speakerlab clone of khorns, my midranges are made of fiberglass, and their range is of poor sound quality. I am looking to replace the horns. I have already purchased altec 511 B"s but to no avail, they are to big for my cabinets. So if anyone knows some one who has restored the 1978 version of the speakerlab version please let me know. Another option would be to rebuild the tops, I would be willing to pay someone to have this done. I live in Alaska, and there isn't many resources for speaker buliding up here. Thanks, Bob From Anchorage
  5. HI Tom, thanks for your quick email reply, regarding pie slice emblems. If there are more sets made, please put me in for a set. Thanks for all time you put in to help the rest of us out. Bob
  6. Hi, I have a pair of atlas drivers(PD5VH)I want to put them on altec 811b horns, does anyone out there know who makes a adapter. Thanks, Bob Keys P.S. AL's cross overs are great.(awesome)
  7. Hi, I have Khorn clones in my home theatre,I cant hang a belle or Lascala on the wall for a center chanel. What smaller klipsch speaker is a good match.
  8. Thanks for the help,I purchased a ohm meter. Tweeter-8 ohms Midrange-16 ohms Woofer-4 ohms I talked to Al and he says I have the right drivers, and I ordered a crossover set. Thanks again.
  9. Thanks for the reply everyhone.I was able to fix my speakers, while they were being shipped the leads from the crossovers become dissconected from the drivers.I connected them and they sound great. This message has been edited by avidfan on 04-04-2002 at 02:00 AM
  10. Hi, yes ,these are a version of speakerlab horns made in the 80"s.Speakerlab actually made 2 types, this one pictured on Ebay, and a 2 part type CLONE of the Klipschorn.Buyers beware dont buy, unless you can confirm it is Authentic. There are no lables on the tweeters or drivers. They were available already assembled, and sold in do it yourself kits. The cross overs are very cheap.I know because a bought a pair of these for 800 dollars from a add in a newspaper.I am in the process of rebuilding mine. For a while speakerlab used Ev tweeters, and in later years made their owm molds and manufactured there own drivers. It is hard to find parts that match,as speakerlab was changing frequency and ohm factors.Speakerlab does not like to talk about these speakers, and has no parts to upgrade them.I was lucky because they original version matched klipsch specs exactly,I cant afford a pair of Khorns so I will stick with these, but it has been a hassle to upgrade them.Another noticable asspect is the way speakerlab mounted ther tweetrs, klipsch mounts them vertical, speakerlad mounts the in a Horizontel manner. In later years speakerlab used passive radiators in the one part cabinet. Also they made the midrange horns out fiberglass.
  11. Hi, I have been having problems with one of my klf-30 speakers after taking off , the rear panel where inputs are located I noticed some wires that were unhooked probally happened when they were shipped to me from Utah,so I need to go in throught the front panel to remedy the problem. If anyone knows what kind of tool is used to take off the the 6 rubber screws please let me know, and thanks to everyone for all the great post.I am on my own here in Alaska.Had a chance to talk to Trey cannon of Tech support and he was a great help.
  12. Hi, I have a pair of speakerlab corner horns, basicaly a CLONE OF A KLIPSCH K HORN.Does any one out there own these speakers, would a AK crossover work in them, mine are going out and the drivers are not exactly the same as klipsch,I have contacted Speaker lab in seattle but to no avail. Also does anyone know of replacement tweeters and mid ranges that might fit. Thanks for your help.
  13. I have a pair of of KLF 30"s im my system.I use them as surrounds, with K horns as my main speakers.I noticed some distortion the other day.I unplugged theM from my power amp,and tested them on a new amp that I bought at a local retailer.THE AMPS MENU SAID THAT IT WAS OVER LOADING AND TURED ITSSELF OFF.I heard some sound from the tweeters. To make sure it wasn't the amp, I tested it on the Khorns ,there was no problem. Please bare with me I am new to the audio world and have no knowledge of speakers.Your help would be greately appreciated,I think I blew something in them, and I will have trouble getting them serviced because I live in Alaska.Thanks.
