  1. That is what I was hoping. The thing that was throwing me off was that this guy said they were walnut but then he has since clarified informing me that he purchased them new unfinished (i suspect, after your help, they were raw birch) and that he had a "professional wood worker" stain them cherry walnut in color. He just sent me a picture...they are indeed La Scalas and they actually look pretty cool with the stain. He claims they are unmodified and sound excellent--as good as they did when he purcased them in 1977! They should go well with my 1977 Cornwalls (oiled walnut) and my 1977 Heresys (oiled walnut). I'll let you know how they sound when i pick them up. Thanks again!
  2. Howdy all. I am looking at some Klipsch speakers (I believe they are La Scalas but I haven't actually seen them yet) that have consecutive serial numbers: 12R676 and 12R677--type LS/BR. Can anyone help me identify these speakers based on this information? Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks for all the info. I guess what i really want to know is why some forte's are apparantly 8ohms while others are 4 ohms? can a 4ohm forte be modified to 8 or even 16 ohms? as i understand it, lower impedance requires that the amplifier(transformer) has to work harder to acheive the same volume output as a higher impedance.
  4. howdy all. i recently purchased a pair of Forte I in oiled oak and noticed that the label on the back of each speaker (near the binding posts) says that the nominal impedance is 4 ohms. Everything else I have ever read (including the owner's manual) suggests that the Forte I has always been 8 ohms. Can anyone shed any light on this? thanks in advance.
  5. howdy folks. i'm looking to purchase a pair of forte I's in oiled walnut or oak. let me know if anyone has a pair for sale. thanks.
  6. howdy all. i'm looking to buy a pair of forte I's in oiled walnut or oak. let me know if anyone has a pair for sale. thanks.
  7. howdy all. i'm looking to purchase a pair of forte I's in oiled walnut. i would consider oiled oak as well. let me know if anyone has a pair for sale. thanks.
  8. howdy all. i've lost a few of the #6 flat head screws for the binding post(s) on my 1977 cornwalls. Does anybody have any idea where i might be able to source some? i have checked my local rat shack and hardware store. thanks in advance.
  9. howdy all. i'm looking for a pair of working K-77 tweeters for some heresy I's--anybody have any for sale? thanks.
  10. yeah, i am considering that. i am bidding on some K-55's on e-bay now and would for sure considering selling the original K-53 mids (pair). let me know if you are interested.
  11. Howdy, just wondering if anybody knows if I can(should?) replace my K-53 mids with a pair of K-55 mids, given the chance. I have a set of KP-201's that i was thinking about changing around a bit, just for fun. i am also condidering the Layne audio K-24 woofer replacement for the same speakers--any thoughts? thanks in advance.
  12. Indy and Justin, FYI the mids on the KP-201's i just picked up are K-53's and the tweeters are K-79's. I havent had a chance to look at the woofers but they are most likely 22E or 24E. can either one of you guys confirm that these are exponential and not tractrix? thanks, gso
  13. Howdy again. I finally have the serial number(s) from the KP-201 speakers that i recently purchased: 90029925 & 90029925. The seller insists that he purchased them in 1984, possibly 1985 and that the model number is KP-201, not KP-201 II. Can anyone help identify the year that these were manufactured? i would guess 1990 based on the serial number but this guy insists they are from the mid-eighties. thanks in advance. sean
  14. thanks for all the info./links everyone. and yes, thanks for the reply in the other thread. after reviewing the info. from the links, it seems like these should be a pretty good all-around speaker...epecially for my basement system--one that i am constantly changing around. thanks again you guys!
  15. anybody have any technical info on some KP-201's from the mid-eighties? Efficiency, driver info., etc. thanks in advance.
