  1. Does anyone out there know who paid the freight between the retail outlet and the Klipsch factory. Reason I am asking is because here in Pacific Northwest, Klipsch Heritage products are quite rare...also most Ebay and Audiogon sellers seem to be primarily East of Mississippi. Seattle is about as far away from Hope as you can get. Somebody had to pay to ship...did this affect dealer price?...Customer price? Any thoughts...most appreciated

This is the mod 1 version from http://www.underwoodHiFi.com/ Other than a cd player etc do i need a preamp? I'm a little lost (and new) to these tube amps... ---------------- Yes, I have heard this amp and it is a very fine unit. It is basically a slightly less powerful version of the 302B. 40 vs. 50 watts, I think. I have had my 302 for about two years now and have heard nothing in that range ($ wise ) that bests it. My one quibble with the stock units are the pots...they definitely need to be replaced. I had Bill Baker at Response go thru mine and is was money well spent. Customer service at Jolida is top notch ( on a good day, Mike Allen the owner and designer just may be the guy that answers the phone). He definitely has some intelligent ideas about HT. Also, I believe at one point Jolida made a 3 channel hybrid amp that used in conjunction with a 2 channel amp made for 5 channel surround system It used a tube pre with a MOSFET output and had center channel output and sub output...the 1704RC...they may still make this unit although I have never heard it.

However I don't have an amp/preamp yet. I definately would like to try tube amplification. However there are so many options I don't know what to get. After doing a lot of reading in this forum I was thinking of getting a Scott 222c/d or 299c/d. But with so much talk about the scotts lately, the prices on ebay seem to be kind of high lately. Are there any other vintage amps I should be looking out for that will give me a similar quality sound, such as Eico-81, etc? Also I have considered getting newer equipment such as Jolida, Cayin, Norh, etc. Either new or used would be ok. Aesthetically they sure are a lot easier on the eye than those old vintage amps. Are there any brands/models for around $800 or under that would sound near as good or better as a Scott? Please list specific brand/model #'s. Recently online I saw a Bez 2A3 single end power amp Model:T3A by Edmund Lam, has anyone heard this and is it any good? I've read that his pre-amps were nice.. Some information that might help your advice - I live in an apartment so low wattage would be ok. I can't listen super loud anyways because of neighbors. I don't listen to the radio so I don't need a tuner. I don't and never will own any records. I don't own and will probably never own any SACD's, the music I listen to is too rare to have an SACD for it. I listen to a wide variety of music, from metal to neo-classical, trip-hop to industrial... I've been lurking in this forum for a couple weeks now and it seems you have a great community here. A lot of nice, friendly, helpful people. I'd appreciate any advice you guys could give ---------------- hello...justa thought on my part but for your circumstances...smallish apartment, low-watt necesary Choruses...I would like to suggest 3 amps (integrated)...1.) Jolida 102b 20 watts a side, sweet El-84s 12ax7 and 12at7s gives you some tube rolling opportunities in the front end and cheap (500.00 new)...2.) Jolida 202A EL-34s & 12at7s & 12ax7s with alittle more power...3.)Cayin-30, about the same specs as the Jolida 202A...never have heard the Cayin but have heard both Jolidas and with your Choruses in an Apt....dont feel you could go wrong...only problem with vintage stuff is the need to have it gone thru to makeit right and the rip-off equation from unscrupulous sellers...thanks, Mark.

Worse case scenario, I have to continue saving for... some LS's? I do hope they can make my offer work as I really like the shop and the guy I am working with. Todd ---------------- OK, guys here is an update on this thread...these gorgeous Corns are sitting in my living room...I was able to buy these by trading in some Rega Juras and cash...got some wiggle room as I have been a long time customer of this shop...they are good guys and do charge a premium over ebay and Audiogon but you get what you see and don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get them up here in the lonely Pacific Northwest...I bought these before I had read anything on this forum, so was kind of freaky reading this thread after the fact. I also ham the original owner of 82 Heresys, so had been looking for a pair of Corns or Belles for at least ayear...anything on ebay or audiogon is always a long way from here and is quite expensive to ship and/or drive to pick-up...just got finished applying a good coat of linseed oil and they truly are Mint- at least...one small(1/8th nick out of the right rear corner and that is it....no scratces stains,etc...nice matching veneer...drivers and horns are like new...it is like they were parked in someones living room and never used...I thought my Heresys were clean until I saw these babies...they are going to have to pry my cold dead hands of of these things when I go...the wife even thinks they are big enough to be buried in...maybe you can take it with you...just a great match for my Jolida 302b.

My initial impression is that the bass is a little faster and cleaner. Other than that, I'm not experienced enough to hear any other differences (if there are any!). -Jesse ---------------- I also have frank's Analog 2s as well as signal cable biwire...great bang for the buck...IMHO better than alot of stuff out there for waaay more money...have had the opportunity to experience some major cable swapping and to my ears Frank'stuff is right up there...good stuff stick with it you won't be disappointed.
