  1. thanks erik. my thoughts exactly. oh yeah... i love lobster. course, now that i live out in frisco, can't get a decent version like i used to indulge in growing up in boston. course, some things are never as you remember them anyway.
  2. ahh, you don't like lobster. well that explains it... nah, dean, everything ya said is cool. i'm an old rocker myself, but execpet when im alone, which isn't often, i gotta listen at very moderate levels. y'know, for all i know, your're right. its just that i've never had speakers that would allow for a se amp, so im excited about trying it, since i've had such great results with my tube preamp. and there a lot of good guys on the decware forum who also like klipsch speakers. so we'll give it a shot(and maybe have one or 3 while listening) and see what happens. thanks for your feedback.
  3. dean, just so i'm clear are you against all low power tube amps, or only decware? the heavy majority of feedback in various forums(including this one) has been in favor of using tubes, and especially set's, with heresy's(or similiar efficient speakers)but obviously your experience was different. you also seem to have some kind of grudge with decware which i'd like to know more about.
  4. and one more thing. my foreplay pre has 20 db gain, so i think there's going to be plenty of juice to run the taboo.
  5. just to be clear, none of you guys have tried the taboo amp yet, cause it just came out. if you tried the zen, you're talking about 2 watts. the taboo has 6 watts. big difference. as far as liking my music loud, yeah i do sometimes, but more often then not i have to play at very moderate levels due to family and small house. i guess it all boils down to the type of sound you like and what you're after. i thought about getting a classic, but frankly i'm skeptical about rebuilt units. you might get something great, or somebodies headache. and as i'm no tech, i was looking for something that would be trouble free(hopefully), reasonably priced, and have good feedback about them(you can read as many good and bad things about decware as just about anything else). and yes, i wanted low power(although maybe not too low...)to see how they would do with the heresy's. the taboo, at least on paper, fit all criteria. and, they do the 30 day thing, so absolutely nothing to lose here. i'll still have my ss rig if things don't work out. anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Those Heresy's really are impressive little rascals. ---------------- thanks. i'm using a vpi scoutmaster turntable, sumiko celebration cart and a dynavctor p75 phono pre. as i said, the nad c370 with the foreplay sounds terrific to me, and the heresy's have really opened up the last few days. i'm not sure , but they may have been dormant for a long time before i got them,so it's almost like they're being broken in again. i'll be very interested in seeing what a low output tube amp can do with these mighty efficient speakers. but i'm shocked at how transparent they are right now. i gotta believe that if one can lay their hands on a pair of 70's/80's heresy's for 3-400 bucks, you will not be sorry. a true giant killer.
  7. i've been living with my '79 heresy's now for a few days. i'm running a nad c370 ss amp with a bottlehead tube foreplay pre, and a mostly, fairly expensive vinyl rig. i've heard the complaints about the heresy with a ss amp, but i'm here to tell you these speakers are absolutley terrific. i don't know if it's because of synergy, because of how they make me remember my 70's systems, because im using vinyl, but i have none of the harshness that i've heard exists when you use ss with vintage klipsch. now of course ive heard how great tubes can sound with efficient speakers, and went ahead and bought a decware taboo amp(6 wpc) to try out. really looking foward to it. but the message here is that i believe a good pair of heresy's can sing with any decent system. love these things...
  8. well to a chance and ordered the new decware taboo single ended pentode amp. 6 watts. hopefully it will give me a decent introduction to low power tube amps, and if i don't like it, i have a 30 day return policy. but im really looking forward to hearing it in my system combined with vinyl. should be fun.

What amp are you currently using? ---------------- my primary is a sim audio i-5, although while it's in the shop for a few days for a checkup, im using a nad c370. with vinyl and a tube preamp(bottlehead foreplay) i seem to get the best of both worlds, but i've never had speakers as efficient as the heresy's,(my usual speakers are totem acoustic model 1 signatures, with 88 db sensitivity) so i'm tempted to try an all tube set up. the major concern i have is getting enough power when i do, err, want to rock(i'm 48, overweight, grey haired, etc, but still like my loud music...go figure). i will say that in the 24 hours since i got the heresy's, they've started to nicely break in. i don't think they were played for a long time, and things definately sound warmer then when i picked them up yesterday. anyway, thanks for your comments.
  10. so i'm a new heresy owner as of saturday, and already am in love. i use a tube pre, but a ss amp. i looking for pro/con advice as to whether i should go the full tube route(thinking about a bottlehead or decware set amp) since the heresy's are so efficient. i'm pretty happy with the results im getting with the tube/ss combo, but wonder what i'm missing. i have a pretty nice vinyl rig, which is what i primarily listen to(although cds still get played as well) and wonder how going to low output tube pre would enhance the enjoyment. on the other hand, i'm kinda broke these days and wonder if there are others here who could comment that are using simliar rigs to mine. thanks in advance, cheers!
  11. well, found the problem! believe it or not, it was the order of power on that i was using. i was powering the amp first, then the foreplay. wrong! foreplay needs to go first, although for the life of me, i thought i used to do it differently with my other amp. but a little research (my foreplay manual, and their forum) and there was the answer. things work and sound great now. thanks for your replies and help.
  12. just replaced the tubes and problem still exists. is there any chance that the combined power of the amp and pre is somehow causing the speakers to overload, thus shutting down the amp? seems weird, but i can't figure out what else it would be.
  13. the thing is, the heresy's work fine without the preamp plugged into the nad. in other words, using the nad's pre(it's an integrated) section. so i'm pretty sure that it's not the speakers, per se. my biggest concern if there was just too much power going into the speakers. i have tried the nad/foreplay combo with other speakers before without any trouble, but for now, the heresy's are the only speakers i have.
  14. Hi, To start, this is my first post here, but lurking around incented me to pick up my fist pair of vintage (79) heresy's today. presently, i'm using them with my nad c370 amp while my primary amp, a sim audio i-5 is in the shop. in the past, to sweeten the nad, i've inserted a bottlehead foreplay tube preamp in the chain by plugging into the nad's "main in" jacks, which allows you to do this. but i've never used speakers that are as efficient as the heresy. the nad has 130 watts. the nad on it's own runs and sounds fine, but when i try to use the foreplay, i experience a lot of popping, static, etc, and the nad then shuts down. this didn't happen when i used the nad with other speakers, like totem model 1 signatures, which are 88 db sensitivity. i'm wondering if the foreplay, which is an active pre and has about 20 watts output or so, combined with the foreplay, is just too much for the heresy to handle. i've posted a smiliar post in the bottlehead forum, but i thought some folks here might have comments/opinions to offer. it's good to be here, and thanks in advance for your help!
