  1. UPDATE: I have completed my visio drawing of what I think should be placement. Again if the pic does not turn out I have attached it to the document. Seating position on center is 10 feet from the Television. This was derived by the Klipsch scale of 1 to 1.5 the distance between the Front Speakers. The front speakers are 8 feet apart and I took that multiplyed by 1.25. As a matter of fact that came out perfect per Dolby specs as my Front Speakers are at a 22 degree angle from the center seating position. The Front Speakers are 24 inches from the back wall. I measured the 24 inches from the center front of the speaker to the back wall. I felt measuring from the back of the speaker to the wall, the speakers were out too far in relation to the television. I have placed the 12 inch sub in the left hand corner of the room. Although the Klipsch Spec states 24 inches from the nearest front speaker, the best I could do was about 1 foot 5 inches. Fortunately after remeasuring I have been able to pull the seating position 21/2 feet from the back wall when measured from center. The will be in a curved format so it will be a bit farther on the ends. This gave a little more room on the ends for the Rear Surrounds which is my biggest challenge. I went off of the Dolby spec of 90 to 100 degrees. I plotted out these areas from center of seating and placed the speakers in the center pointed out at an angle towards the seats. More of less the Rear Surrounds will be in the corners behind the seating position. If I can get some decent ceiling mounts, I will have some room for adjustment and rotation. Measurement of the back center of the Rear Surrounds to the back wall are 1 foot 5 inches. The Right Surround has no wall to the right as it is open to the bar area. The Left Surround is positioned 5 inches from the left wall. As a future enhancement I have plotted the Surrounds that would compelte the 7.1 configuration by plotting the speakers at 135 degrees from center which is the minimum Dolby Spec. These speakers would be 5 feet away from each other from the center of each speaker and just under 4 feet from the center of the current Rear Surrounds. The couch in the drawing are just a visual representation and not by any means exact. They are mostly there for a length reference. Now I know that is a lot of info but I hope it makes sense. If this works which it looks like it will, I just need to find some good ceiling mounts. Any input will be great.
  2. Hello All, I am completely new to the HT world but I feel I have been researching quite a bit and I am actually getting somewhere on what I plan on purchasing. This will lead to a few questions: Sony 60" SXRD Yamaha 5890 Reciever (May actually change to 7.1 model with HDMI) Klipsch Synergy III F-2,C-2,S-2 Klipsch 12 inch Sub Sony Upconvert DVD Player First of all this will be going into a finished portion of my basement. The owners I bought this from used this room for HT so this should work good. The room it will be in is 175" X 255". I am actually only going to be using 175" X 159" as the other part has an opening into another room and also will be a future space for a bar. Using the 175 X 159 combination: Originally I was going to set up the TV an couches at the 175 ends as this is how the other owners had it. But after I got to measuring the theatre seating I will be using, it will be at 148" which only give me a foot on each side to get to the front of the chairs, definitely not enough room. BTW what I am getting for seating is 4 leather power reclining chairs from Berline setup in a curved format. So my next step is now I am moving the configuration clockwise as now the seating and TV will be along the 159" walls. I have measured out the TV and couches using visio and everything comes up good as far as the distance of F-2 towers from each other X 1.5 feet for viewing distance and the placing of the speakers 2 feet from the wall. The viewing distance and angle from the TV will work out great as I will be a little over 9 feet away which is beyond the 7 foot minimum by Sony's standards and the distance in respect to the Klipsch towers. The problem is going to be the rear surrounds. To the right of the couch I have no wall as it is an open space to the other end of the room. Behind me is a wall but it only covers half as the other half of the wall is a "half wall". I will try to post a picture of it to make sense. It seems by only best bet is to ceiling mount the S-2 speakers. I could put them behind me but the closet it can get to be the same height is darn near 8 feet which is the height of the ceiling. As you can see from the picture the ceiling does come down a bit behind me. So after all this I hope it makes sense. This breaks down to a few questions: 1) First off, are the X-2 series (F,C,S) overkill for the size room I am using (I like the Synergy III series so maybe the X-1's will be better) 2) Will I be OK for ceiling mounting the S-2 even though wall mount is recommended. If so I need help finding a decent bracket for these speakers that will work best. I know I have to be about 1.75ft. off the ceiling or so. 3) Do you think I will be able to use the 7.1 technology in the future by adding a set of speakers behind me on the wall or are they not going to do any good since I am too close to the wall and they will be up too high? I apologize in advance for the mess. Right now I got a tiny TV running the vid games for me and the kids. If the pics don't show up I have included a zip file with this post Here is a pic of the wall that will be for seating. Notice the issue I have with the half wall:(76) This is the view from the other side of the half-wall:(77) This is where the HT was going to be originally. This wall was going to be for the TV but everything moved clockwise:(78)
