  1. DIBS.....put you finger in the piece of pie you want.....black-black no trade back (baseball cards only!).....I'll bring cash in the morning! (TRANSLATION: if my wife lets me after about 2-weeks of pleading and then I'll give you my best rubber check - for "part payment" and the rest next time you catch me)

Grow Up! Get over it! Get a real life - things happen. It's the Law of Combat Random - one guy does everything "by the book" and dies on the beach while the company "sadsack" survives a direct hit by a nuke and gets a medal for heroism!!

    AMY....stop this thread. Puh-leeze!

  2. If I find a gold 1904 Double Eagle on the ground should I immediately run to the nearest coin collector and give it to him for $1? Two life-long buddies maybe....but two strangers?

The Arabs say a deal is not finished until both men have gone 100 miles in the desert...in opposite directions!!

BottomLine: What are the speakers worth ...to you! Are you very happy you got them? If so you'll soon forget the price.

  3. To joshnich, Harry O, et al....Please "double-box" your albums in sets of 50 per box and mail them to me via Media-Mail. Also if you could do-up an Excel spreadsheet catalog before shipping that would be helpful[Y].....I will donate them to a worthwhile vinyl charity (BBBB's Vinyl Collection) in your name.

    Many Thanks[8-|]

  4. IMHO no single component can be nailed down. It's the balance of all components that makes for an awesome experience. What works great in one system can be a total different in the next.

    No argument ...but (and ain't there always a butt!?)...The Cartridge......The Cartridge..........The Cartridge!!.......oh, you got a cd[li]

  5. Many years ago I was visiting my cousin at his workplace in an IBM plant. He suddenly received a "rush order" from his boss for a completely new set of briefing slides to be used in less than 30 minutes.

We rushed down the hall to a room requiring a key - which he produced. Inside were two MacIntosh computers. He had the slides finished in about 15 minutes - and made the boss very happy.

Since he has retired I feel my oath of secrecy is fullfilled....and that's the rest of the story!

  6. PLEASE DON"T SHIP THOSE- we aren't making them anymore. Surely there is someone within driving distance who would love to have these speakers.

I consider Klipsch Heritage (and yes the Forte's count in my book) as FINE FURNITURE or ANTIQUES and treat them with that much respect. The factory boxes were meant to get them from factory to dealer strapped to a pallet with many other speakers. Those cartons were not designed for individual handling by UPS gorillas.

colterphoto1is absolutely correct - "fine furniture or antiques".

Now that said sometimes you do have to move things around - I just sent a 180 year old tea set in two boxes; each box was professionally packed by one of Englands finest professional china packers. Yes they really have professionals - not just some guy who can't keep a job and decided to open a "Pack-n-Mail".

I re-packed those boxes in two more boxes - each 24 x 24 x 36 - two boxes to send a teapot, 6 c/s, creamer, sugar and two serving plates - on the other hand there are only three known complete sets! so I figured a few extra dollars for packing is an INVESTMENT not a cost.

So first question....how much are they worth to you? NOT how much did you pay or get for them... but, how much are they worth to you?

If they are indeed "fine furniture or antiques" I suggest you pack them in the original cartons and then "wrap" them in 4-inches of polystryene foam sheets - NOT polystyrofoam, but POLYSTYRENE foam. 4-inches on each side - and there are 6 sides to any box - the bottom deserves as much protection as the top!

Next box them in a 350-lb burst-strength carton and palletize for shipment.....of course if I were sending my Beautiful Baby Belles back to Oklahoma the outer carton would be plywood and 2x4's with a carpet lining but then again I'm quite anal about shipping since my wife worked in the Post Office and I used to see the "back shipping dock" where the boys tried each package for "drop-kick" strength for amusement.

You can safely ship these speakers if you use a little common sense and spend a few bucks. "If you can't afford the shipping you probably can't really afford the goods inside...?"[:'(]

  7. The first day home I wired up the ol'Klipsch Belles with a couple of extension cords....which I aim to replace one day when I find a friendly sort to help me move them out so I can access the wiring board.

Is there any chance of those old extension cords (brown two-strand from Ace Hardware) damaging either the speakers or the amp? Not really worried about the amp so much as it is an old Onyko 508 that came with the speakers but the speakers themselves have become like children....I've even named them... "Abra" and "Kadabra"....is that wrong?

  8. Last night I was listening to an old "Record of the Month CLub" LP-set of Hoagy Carmichael on my Belles. I had waited for a pair within driving distance from an original owner who was as finicky about his stuff as I am....Hoagy never sounded better except that one time I saw him in person!!

Get in your car and enjoy one of the best rides of your life!

  9. I may be a very junior member and own only previously used speakers but Amy and the entire Forum Botherhood have been the best most helpful folks I have encountered in a long time. It's almost like the antique car hobby was back in the sixties before the rich-boys started "restoring" cars with a checkbook instead of with their hands.

    Amy...keep us happy and straight!

  10. Oh goodie, this is going to be a great thread. Not the normal Tube vs. SS thread, but throw in the other LP vs. digital debate and we are going to have a real barn burner here. Putting the two together is really going to put a spin on things. I think I will run run to the fridge grab a bunch of refreshments and sit back and watch the excitement.

    Travis

Actually this one is verrrry easy! Vinyl thru Tubes and out the Belles...or K-Horns if you are lucky [:)]...or Jubilees if you are very lucky.[:D]
