  1. Hypoxia,

You may want to try to unload your yamaha. With the original price and feature set, you maybe able to get around $600+(even without the newest codecs). Most people will just run it as a pre-amp via the analogs......I would definitely considering on getting an external amp. I have the xpa-5 and it does wonders for the rf-7s. But the xpa-2/xpa-3 is a better combo if you can swing it(I never got the WAF, but hey...you seem like you might..lol)....good luck...

btw: Dean is returning my networks today [:D]. It's been 5 days since I've heard the sweet sound of my klipsch and I can't wait to get them back. Also...I'm on the pre-order list(shipping 3/24) for the UMC-1, but I may not keep it....REALLY WANT THE XMC-1, BUT AGAIN WITH THE WAF...LOL

  2. I'm still considering getting the UMC-1. I received the email notification and it's supposed to be shipping out on 3/24 to me. I'm currently using the HK AV630 via analog inputs as a pre with my XPA-5. What's nice about the HK is that it allows for bass management via the analogs. I haven't seen any other AVR that does that(though honestly, I haven't really owned a lot)...This is one of the reasons why I sold my Marantz SR-8400 and kept the HK.Anybody else having a dileamma like this?

  3. Well...I decided to go with the DeanG networks....I'm going to be sending them out tomorrow. I'm also on the preorder list for the UMC-1 and it's supposed to be shipping on 3/24, but I think I'm going to save my $700 and put it towards the Integra or the XMC-1.....besides...my HK-AVR630 lets me do processing with the analog connections...it's suffixed so far and I can wait a little longer I guess...

  4. I never thougth I would use Audyssey. I figures like all other over rated gadgets is was B.S. I used the DHC for a while without running Audyssey and one day decided to try it and see what it would sound like. Bottom line, I no longer listen to anything without it.

Bold statements.....I didn't think it would make that much difference, but I guess it does....Thanks for the input...

  5. This one is an easy one. IMHO, get the DHC 9.9 first. As much as you watch movies, there is no other option. The DHC decoding of the new formats is better than the panny decoding sent to analog. I know, I have the Panny and the DHC. Then, get the crossover upgrades. Those will be well worth the cost in sound improvement. The amps I don't think will have the impact the other two changes will make.

Good luck and enjoy the upgrades whichever way you go. BTW, the DHC Audyssey will fix many of whatever room acoustic problems you have....even if you don't know you have them.

The Audyssey was another reason why I was considering this over the emotiva.

  6. I don't think the move from an XPA-5 to XPA-1 monoblocks will yield a huge increase in performance. Obviously the XPA-1s are incredible amps, but so is your XPA-5.

I would start by having Dean modify your crossover or ordering the parts from him and doing it yourself. I'd do the RF-7s and the RC-7. Then I would give at least a few days if not a week or more to get used to how your speakers sound with the changes.

Once you've done that, a dedicated pre-amp would probably give you the most return on your investment. Are you interested in the Emotiva UMC-1 at all?

If I was going to do the xovers, I would do all three of the front stage. As far as the UMC-1, I'm actually on the pre-order list, but with all the setbacks and whatnot, I can't get passed it. Plus, one thing that was turning me off of it was the direct source selection. I think emotiva dropped the ball on that one. The integra is without problems(or handshake issues). Maybe emotiva will have things fixed for the XMC-1, but I will probably have a solution by then...

  7. I told myself I was going to do one of the three things when I got my income tax check, but I haven't decided which. I thnk they would all increase my audio experience, but the question is: which would be the best for my purposes. I'm probably about 85/15 movies/music.I've been debating for about a year now to get my xovers upgraded, but there is always something that comes up and I never actually did it.

    My Setup:

    HK AVR630

    Emotiva XPA-5

Panny bd-55k(hooked up via analog for lossless sound)

    Klipsch RF-7s, RC-7, RS-7

    SVS 20-39PC+ 12.3

  8. i was looking at a pair of used rf 7's, 3 years old and was offering 1000 for them. Once something is used..its used. It loses that luster of being brandy new and well, it gets to a point of where people say its worth xxxx amount for me to buy them new and know i have been the only person to use them and what not

I bought a used set (2-RF-7s, 1-RC-7, 2 - RS-7s) about a year ago for $1450 + shipping(it was around $200) from audiogon.com. One of the feet was broken on the RF-7, but I didn't really care. I called klipsch and another one for $2 shipped(I think). I thought it was a h3ll of a deal and I am extremely happy with my purchase. Hope the price might help you "gage" to offer and what not.

  9. As some may know and some may not Emotiva finally is filling their pre-orders.

  10. My owned the SR8400 for awhile with my RF-7. It sounded wonderful. I have since sold it and I ended up moving to the emo XPA-5 and using my HK 630 as a pre-amp. The amp in the marantz is far superiour to the HK(hands down). It never got hot, but it was warm to touch occasionally. Marantz makes a nice warm musical sounding receiver and it pairs well with klipsch. They are also build very nice. You can always tell a nice amp when it weighs a ton. Of course, it didn't weigh anywhere near what my xpa-5 does...lol

One thing to note though, I did notice that the bass levels seem to be a little mild and I did not like that xover options in the marantz(only could crossover to 80hz...I have my HK 630 xovered to 60hz)... though this is pretty standard. THX standards are 80hz and that's probably why most receivers use it that, but I liked my klipsch to play a little deeper...I just looked at the manual and it appears the xover on the Sr6004 can be set from 40hz-180hz. I would say go for it. Curious as to how much you are going to be getting it for?

  11. I would probably buy used if you are strapped for cash. There is a pair of RF-62s on audiogon.com for $375....That's pretty steller. There are both positives and negatives to buying used. Postives: definitely price. You can the same speakers for half(or if not more) off the retail price. Believe me, they will sound the same, if not better than new ones(no 'break in' time). One negative is that the cabinets might not be in prestine shape. Ask for pictures(lots of them) and I would only buy from people that have a 'smoke-free', 'pet-free' environment(though they could just lie and say that it is). Good luck in your journey. One note, I bought my RF-7 package used and I couldn't be happier. The only complaint I had was one of the feet was broken and the seller stated that going in. Plus, it is something that plagued the series from conception.

  12. InVeNtOR,

I'm only really thinking about updating the pre/pro, but if I go with the Denon, I will have money left over to the RF-7 xover(with the RC-7 coming later). The UMC-1 was supposed to be my wedding gift from my wife(she got a golden doodle[:S])....but with the delay from Emotiva, I've been shopping other avenues. The UMC-1 supposedly sounds great, but would it sound better than the Denon and the Xovers is the real question(for both movies/music). Where is money best spent? I definitely need to change out my HK though(the sound dropout drive me crazy!!!!)

As far as updating anything else...sure it would be nice to have a new sub(have an SVS 20-39 PC+)and a new display(along with a pair of XPA-1s to power the RF-7s[:D]), but let's get serious....I'm married now the WAF is definitely not there for all that(well....at least until she buys her stupid Mercedes C350)...I drive a '05 Civic with rollup windows and standard locks-->thus all my cash went to my theater...I think expensive cars are dumb, but that's just me and another story all together...lol

  13. I'm pretty new to amps(only have used a receiver for power), but I can tell you that last week when I got my xpa-5 and paired it with my rf-7s, it was a completely new experience in listening. From reviews, the xpa-2 is way better and I'm excited when I will be able to get that(not for awhile). I don't think you will be dissapointed. Can I ask what you were using to power your setup before?

Yea, I also just read that!

  14. Well....I decided to crossover my RF-7s at 40hz and the RC-7, RS-7s at 60 hz(my only options are in 20 increments). I'm going to listen for awhile and see if I notice something missing. I did notice that with my HK 630. I set the SUB (LFE) to "SUB L/R+LFE" and noticed that my mains were not running when I was going through the AVIA sub setup(at any frequency). I changed it to "L/R" and then they were working. That doesn't seem correct. Any ideas?

  15. I ended up building a Flexy design of out 3/4" oak plywood and stained in it in a 'Red Oak' finish. It was pretty to do, but next time, I will do a few things differently. The total oak was about $150 and it measures 60"w x 22.5"h x 24"d. The shelves are both set at 10.5" high and it works nicely. Thanks to all who posted...I'll post a pic after everything is completely hooked up and if I can find my digital camera [*-)] ....

  16. Does that mean that your sub doesn't play anything above 50 hz? I looked at those Conquests, they seem pretty powerful. I still like my SVS, but if I ever feel like an "upgrade", I might got that route. Also, congrats on all that emo gear. My XPA-5 is 'Out for Delivery' as I write this!!!!

I have my mains, center, and surrounds cut off at 50 hz, like someone said, the RF's are vary capable down low. My Conquest does all the heavy lifting below 50 .......

  17. I was wondering where everybody was setting their frequenecy for the RF-7 setups. I think I'm going to run them at the following when I get my new pre-amp(currently my receiver is set to 100).

    RF-7: 65

    RC-7: 100

    RS-7: 100

I'm also going to get DeanG to upgrade my crossovers at some point, but I just never have gotten around to it.
