  1. The key was the 0000 steel wool. Don't get me wrong, sandpaper has it place, but veneer is not one of them.
  2. Thanks for the site. However, I think two speaker grilles might be under their radar.
  3. Gil, I looked at multimeters on line and in Lowes. They seem to range from $10 to $100s. What am I looking for? Yes, this is all new to me. Thanks!!
  4. Well I'm assuming that all drivers and crossovers are removed prior to refinishing. Someone prior said that in their opinion, Klipsch didn't use a good quality birch veneer. That is putting it mildly. But even if it was furniture grade veneer, in my opinion, you do not want to use sandpaper. It puts scratches in the wood that might not be visable at first, but will be later when finished. Sandpaper is faster than steel wool, but as granma said-haste makes waste. If you are going to put a coat of anything on after the stain, I would recommend Deft (spelling??). I learned this stuff from a man in Virginia who refinished furniture for museums in Williamsburg, etc. I think his name was Dilbert Frey.
  5. Thanks to you Gil, and everyone above. I found the grilles are available from several sources (Google). Some as cheap as $1.95. Here is what steve Phillips, Klipsch Senior Tech emailed me regarding the speakers: Those were HI, pro Heresy's from the late 1970's to early 1980's The front had a fascia over the motor board that covered the grill mounting, available for churches and pro sound reinforcement A project for the future.
  6. Well, Coulter was right on the money. Here is what I received from Steve Phillips, Klipsch Senior Tech: Those were HI, pro Heresy's from the late 1970's to early 1980's The front had a fascia over the motor board that covered the grill mounting, available for churches and pro sound reinforcement. As for the grilles, they are available from several sources (Google), but for the logo, it was probably screened on. In a later email he suggested using a current metal logo found on the KP-110, or the one on the KSM-8. Kudos to Coulter!
  7. Thanks Gil. The ones in your picture are interesting.
  8. Regarding the Herseys in the picture below my user name: I am posting this in architetural section, as it concerns the cabinets. In another post, I was told they were Hersey Industrials. Either way I am looking for the metal grilles. Your assistance please! If anyone wants the original picture file, email me or post the instructions for posting it on this form. Your assistance in locating these grilles is much appreciated! Thanks!
  9. Thanks coulter and bhendrix! Do you have any idea where to obtain the expanded metal grille? I.m going to be redoing a pair of Herseys, and these look nice!
  10. Michael, indecent is what people pay for vintage JBL.
  11. Seadog, I emailed her. She said she would be yours [1 night],for all your audio equipment.
  12. Is anyone familar with the Hersey in the picture under my user name? White, rounded edges, and a metal grille covering the woofer. Thanks for your responses in advance!
  13. Thank you Klewless. Very explicit advice even I can follow!
  14. Let me add my thanks as well Bob! Great communicator. I did pick up the Herseys, today rather than Wed, and they are rough. Birch with no finish (stain, varnish, etc.) what so ever. The veneer is splitting and peeling everywhere, and the seller told me one of the woofers doen't work. Advertised as in "GOOD" condition. Oh well I'm going to disect and see what direction I head in. How does one test individual drivers to determine whether they are working properly? Considering the woofer for a moment, how does one determine what is wrong with it? Thanks again Bob, and anyone else who jumps right in with help!
  15. I don't know, as I haven't opened. I am getting another pair Wed, I will disect those and report back. Thanks
  16. I too would be interested, as I am going to refurb a pair, and I know I will forget to take good notes as well. Thanks!
  17. Does anyone have the schematic for the Hersey crossover? Thanks in advance!
  18. Hello. While I am new to Klipsch, I am not to furniture. Do not use sandpaper-period. Use fine steel wool.
  19. Thanks Bill. Don't the risers slope? In other words, wouldn't they be 1" on one end and either higher or lower on the other? I don't know, neither pair of mine have the risers.
  20. No, I didn't. Ebay? Prices are too high.
  21. Does anyone have the dimensions for the Hersey risers? Thank you!
