  1. I found that Vanns has the best price on this unit by far. After reading a number of threads, dealing with Vanns has been nothing but positive.
  2. I am trying to plan ahead, and I think the Onkyo has a lot to offer. I found it on-line for $500, which is an excellent price. I think the 705 should meet my needs.
  3. Okay, I have read several threads over the past few months and have gotten great advice to build my system. I will be moving soon and renovating the family room, and need a receiver. My current system is as follows: RF52, RC52, Quintet III side and rear surrounds, Sub 10 I will utilize the room for about 70% HT and 30% music. I was hoping to get a good unit for around $500-$700. I am planning to purchase a 1080p plasma tv, and may have to hold off on a blu-ray player until prices drop. While I am pretty well versed on all of the lingo, the HDMI and upconverting features on receivers throw me a little. I was looking at the Yamaha RX-V663 and the Onkyo TSXR705. Both of these seem to have similar features, including one that is important to me. That is 9 speaker terminals so I can hook up my 7.1 system as well as 2 outdoor speakers. The room size is 26x13 and I am not sure about my seating positions yet. Any advice will be great. BTW, I have upgraded my system twice, without even hooking anything up yet. Having the equipment sitting in boxes in the basement along with reading the material on the forum is enough to give me the upgrade bug!
  4. I just purchased the RF-52 over the weekend and I am pleased! I got them for around $500 from my local retailer. I ended up getting the RC-52 because I was blown away by the sound and wanted my fronts to match. I don't have them hooked up yet because I will be moving soon, but my room dimensions are similar to yours.

    RF-52 Question

Thanks for the help. I was hesitant to use the "S" word in my post. I think I may take a gamble with the RF-52/Quintet III combo. Set up won't be for a few more months, so I have plenty of time to ask questions about receiver recommendations and speaker wire advice.

    RF-52 Question

Being an entry level H/T guy, I realize the Quintets are an entry level system. I know a majority of forum members got hit with the upgrade bug, however I am upgrading from a Sony system so anticipate a world of difference. If I stay with the Quintets, will I be totally disapointed (knowing there is better out there)? I want to utilize what I already have, but I don't want a system that is not meeting my "entry level" expectations!

    RF-52 Question

    Anyone who can help? Please!
  8. I was holding off on all of my questions to fellow forum members until I move in June, but here goes a quick one. I am putting together my H/T for the family room which is 26x13. I currently have the Quintet III and Sub 10, and I am researching receivers for purchase in a few months. I think I have the size for a 7.1 setup and the following opportunity just came up: My local retailer has the RF-52's on sale for a pretty good price! I am not looking to spend a ton of money to do a full speaker upgrade and I am not looking to sell the Quintets (sorry Bill). Would the RF-52's make a good set of front speakers, while using the Quintets as my surrounds? Would this sound good and would these speakers match? It's hard to sample this complete setup at the store. Thanks

    Amp Question

I wasn't anticipating adding another component, so the budget would only be a couple hundred bucks. The noise doesn't concern me because the amp will be hooked up to outdoor speakers. I don't think I will be using the outdoor speakers when the rest of my HT is running inside (moive, tv, etc.). Although the amp will be placed in close proximity to the rest of the system, I don't think the noise will be a big deal.

    Amp Question

The outdoor speakers 60 w continuous with 240 peak power handling. The receiver I am looking had is 100 w per channel.

    Amp Question

Thanks for the info. Any recs for an amp that will be powering two outdoor speakers? If I don't go high end on the amp, will it compromise the rest of the system?

    Amp Question

I am looking at a receiver upgrade for a 7.1 HT system. I like the idea of multiple zones so I can install some outdoor speakers. The info on the Pioneer Elite that I am looking at says that I need to hook up a separate amp since all 7 speaker terminals will be in use. 1) Is the only way to power my additional speakers to hook up an amp to the receiver? 2) Would this involve spending several hundreds of $ more to add two outdoor speakers? 3) Not being familiar with amps, how does this change how the whole system is powered? Thanks for the help!

    7.1

I am fairly new to the forum and have received a lot of great advice. After reading several posts and on-line articles, here is my question. As I have mentioned in other threads, I purchased the Quintet III and Sub 10 to go in my new family room. The dimensions are 23 x 16. I am planning on buying a new receiver and was wondering if it is worth it to purchase two front speakers and make the satelites the surround to give me 7.1 surround sound? Regardless of the various auido formats (I have read a ton!), will a 7.1 receiver project audio to all speakers when I watch a DVD, listen to an audio CD, or watch regular Comcast Cable? I know much of this has been answered before, but I was wondering what you guys think.
  14. It sounds like I can connect my cable box to receiver via HDMI for digital audio and video and the the receiver to TV via HDMI to produce digital sound and a digital picture. What is the optimal connection for the DVD player? I thought things were good now, but after joining the forum, I realize that I have been missing out!
  15. Thanks, I heard good things about Yamaha. As for connections, I currently have my Comcast box with component video going to my TV and an optical going to the receiver. I know an HDMI from the cable box to the tv will give me a digital picture and digital sound. What is the best connection from the cable box to the receiver? Is the HDMI cable a lot better than component video?
  16. I am looking to upgrade my receiver and wanted some advice. I am looking to spend about $500-$600 and was looking at some Yamaha models. My system: Quintet III Sub 10 Panasonic 53 inch LCD Panasonic Upconvert DVD Do I need to worry about the max output from a receiver and the max input the satelites can handle?

    Quintet III

I have the Quintet III system with the sub 10. A few questons. . . 1) I am looking to upgrade my receiver and was looking for reccomendations. I would like to spend around $500. Is there a concern about the output of the receiver not matching up with the speakers as I read in other forums? 2) What speaker wire would be best to hook up the Quntiet III's? 3) I was reading the forum about mounting the speakers on the wall and was wondering how stable the brackets are. It seems like several people had trouble mounting the Quintet III's.
  18. Thanks. Is there a huge difference in quality with the SF line? I saw the SF-1 on overstock.com. http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Klipsch-SF-1-Tower-Speakers-Pair/1710587/product.html These are considerably less money than the F-2 or F-3.
  19. I have the Quintet III and sub 10. I think I am going to use the Quintet satelites for surround and add a pair of front speakers to give me 7.1. Any reccomendations for a pair of front speakers ( I think I want floor standing/tower) that won't break the bank? Someone suggested the SF-1.

    Quintet III

I currently have the Quintet III and have the opportunity to buy 2 more speakers from the package. Would 6 speakers from the Quintet III system (plus center) make up a good surround sound system, or should I buy another model for the fronts? How necessary is 7.1?
