  1. Emotiva is the first separate type amp that I've owned but I have heard Rotel, Sunfire and Adcom at others houses and they all seemed to work well. Maybe I was just itch'n to try something different but I decided on trying out either Emotiva or Outlaw stuff based on the reviews of others since they are internet sales only and you can't go somewhere to hear them. I was concerned about the Emotiva amps being too bright with the RF-7's but they aren't and there's just great clean power with lots of headroom. I don't consider myself to be an audiophile but if I can do small upgrades to my sound equipment without spending lots of money then I know I'm on the right track. My wife doesn't know anything at all about the different companies and what they offer but she could hear the difference when I changed things around in my system. I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on this type of equipment so Emotiva has met all my requirements so far and made my Klipsch speakers sound great.
  2. It's funny you should mention this because that's where I was at a couple of months ago. Emotiva? This name kept popping up when I was doing my research at all the home theater and stereo addict forums. I made a list of all the companys I was interested in and some of the ones you have mentioned were on that list. I went to their forum - http://emotivalounge.proboards54.com/ and researched there but you know there's going to be a bias. Whatever you do .......... do not let the pretty blue lights, the good looking equipment, the five year warranty, or the outrageously low prices sway you or you could be afflicted with Emotiva fever. It happened to me and before I knew it I had spent $1448 on 1100 watts (conservatively rated I'm sure). They were offering free shipping at the time so that saved over $100 (XPA-2 weighs almost 80 lbs) and no tax outside of Tennesee.
  3. There was a thread about this at the Emotiva Lounge regarding voltage/ power conditioners and the Emotiva guys were saying no conditioning was necessary. They thought that some units could restrict the power draw required by the amps and recommended just making sure your circuits were adequate. You're gonna love that -2/-5 combo, I went with the -2/-3 because 5.1 was all I wanted in my HT room.
  4. For what it's worth- I'm new to running separates for my speakers and had been running my RF-7's off of a Denon AVR (100 watts/channel). I decided to try Emotiva amps because they are affordable and a lot of people hold them in high regard. Their new XPA-2 amp is 250 watts/ channel @ 8 ohms and works really well with the RF-7's, that "comes alive" description is very accurate in this case (when compared to the Denon). I also have the XPA-3 200 watts/ channel and ran the RF-7's off that for a comparison test and came away feeling that the XPA-2 had more "mojo" than the XPA-3. The XPA-3 is probably very similar to the other 200 watt amps discussed in this thread.
  5. I've had my Emotiva amps for almost 4 weeks now, I highly recommend the XPA-2 amp with a set of RF-7 mains. I feel they are a perfect match for each other, excellent for two channel or HT purposes. For the rest of your system the XPA-3 or -5 depending on 5 or 7 channel preference. The RF-7s absolutely wail on the 500 watt XPA-2 without breaking a sweat with plenty left over for peaks. Throw in the pretty blue lights, the five year warranty, and the great price and you have a set of amps guaranteed to satisfy.
  6. I just posted this over at the Emotiva Lounge: Just got my XPA-2 and XPA-3 yesterday......... holy cr@p the XPA-2 seriously rocks with the RF-7's! I have my Denon running as the pre amp until the UMC comes out and I got it up to about -15 on the volume knob and it was incredibly loud and still clear with lots more left to go (I think the Denon will go up to +18). In another thread someone mentioned that the XPA-2 was at another level higher than the XPA-5 and I found that to be the case with the XPA-3 also. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the XPA-3, it's still a fantastic amp and I started out yesterday by hooking up the mains and the center to it for an initial test drive and was very pleased. But then I put the mains on the XPA-2 and it was like blasting off on a rocketship, very nice work Emotiva on producing such a great amp. Someone also mentioned that their LEDs were just barely moving on their XPA-2, I was getting mine to move about halfway through the range at -15(very loud) so I have lots of headroom and the amp was not even getting hot(just warm). The RF-7's are notorious for being too bright with certain amps but I found the highs to be perfect for my liking and the bass really tightened up nicely. Great amp for these speakers, I'm really glad I spent the extra $649 for the XPA-2/-3 over the XPA-5 which was my initial plan.
  7. I just finalized my pre-order for the Emotiva amps XPA-2 (250 x2) and XPA-3 (200 x3) today as I received an email saying they had arrived and were shipping next week. I too had considered the XPA-5 but I wanted that little bit of extra headroom for the mains. One drawback to the XPA-2/-3 combo is the combined weight of almost 150 lbs! When you have 90 lb mains, 70 lb surrounds and a +200 lb sub it becomes just another heavy piece of the puzzle. Don't forget free shipping on Emotiva stuff until July 15th, I'm probably saving almost a hundred bucks from shipping on those heavy amps.
  8. I just ordered my Conquest today, should take 3-4 weeks.
  9. Very cool! Full report after you get settled please........How long was the wait after ordering? (Is it just me or does the Conquest look like it could double as a bass guitar amplifier?) LOL
  10. bhenry said "I'd love to see the 7 line-up return. Not to brag, but everyone that hears these (I have the RF-7's and an RC-7) just loves them. I think they were around $2200.00 for the RF-7's which is an absolute bargain." Exactly what I was thinking when I decided to build a dedicated home theater on the side of my house. So I started looking for used ones and found 2 pairs of RF-7's (black) and a RC-7(also black) in the space of three days for about $2400(shipping not inc. in that total). I spent about $90 in gas driving my F150 from Jax to Tampa and back to get one pair of RF-7's and it was totally worth it. My dedicated HT will have 2 RF-7's, 1 RC-7, 2 KLF-20's for rear surround, and maybe an Epik Conquest for sub bass. I had to get the extra RF-7's for the living room because once my wife heard them there was nothing else I could replace the KLF-20's with that would have satisfied her, she was blown away by how good they sounded.
  11. Holy Maximum Excursion! I just saw a Youtube video somebody took of their Conquest during the WOTW's opening pod scene. Looks like a small child could get hurt getting close to that thing, it appeared to have a hell of a knockout punch. I could be pulling the trigger on one of these very soon.......
  12. Hi y'all, I'm a new guy here looking for answers since I'm doing a man cave/home theater and have become intrigued by the Epik line of new subs. I currently have 2RF-7's for the front stage, I just bought a RC-7 from joessportster for the center and I'm going to use my KLF-20's for my rear surround. So I've been researching subs and Epik keeps coming up and I found this thread. I would like to know if everyone that posted here about their Epiks would buy the same sub again now that they are broken in and the dust has settled. It doesn't look like the Conquest can be beat for the price point and since I have the great lows from the RF-7's I'm looking for that strong 30hz and below output. My room is going to be 12.5ft wide by 40ft long with 10ft ceiling and no openings. One end of the room will be used for other than HT purposes and I don't have any plans for closing it off at this time. Any thoughts about how the Conquest would do in this room size? Thanks for any answers you all have. If anyone in the Jax, FL area has a Conquest I sure wouldn't mind hearing(feeling) it. ( I reposted this from the bowels of another thread for greater visibility- sorry for the repostage if it offends)
