  1. I can get the RC-62ii from Frys for $180, and was looking to upgrade my current center Synergy C2. My frontstage is the F2s. Surrounds are RS 42s (side) and B3s (rear).

I've read about timbre matching, and am worried. I've also been reading "get the best center for the money" since it does most of the dialogue and your sound (though percentages people have noted going through the center have varied from 70-90% of your sound).

What do you guys think? I think the 62 will be an excellent sounding speaker, but I don't want to upset my frontstage. I'll be pairing with either an Onkyo NR-676 receiver (2017 model) or a 10 year old Pioneer Elite SC-05. I just purchased the 676 to "upgrade" to 4k and atmos. All thoughts appreciated.

  2. I've had my Synergy F2s and C2s for a long time, paired with RS42 and B3 surrounds. The front stage currently has Straightwire Rhapsody S cables attached to them, while the rest have regular 14 gauge cables. I'm in the process of revamping my setup, including freeing up money for a new amp and center channel, and was thinking about selling the Rhapsody cables and just going with regular 14 gauge cables. Is this a mistake? Am I doing a significant downgrade? Are there better, cheaper cables I can buy if I sell the Rhapsody cables? In other words what I'm looking for are people's opinions of what is the best cable choice for these speakers. I'm guessing there won't be much difference in anything I choose so I'm leaning towards removing the Rhapsody cables. If I do, what are your recommendations for a center channel to pair with the F2s? Your input is appreciated.

  3. I'm assuming you got them using the name your price promotion? I figured it was over, but you do have a week to buy... Good, glad you got it! I also had a chance to get the RB-61s for 225, but I passed it up - I'll wait for another deal later. 1 pair of RS-42s at 225 is enough for now!

  4. I'm kind of in a bind. I bought Synergy speakers, F2, C2, but realized I can get the RF-62s for only slightly more. I can still return the F2s, but I can't return the C2. So instead of buying a new center channel and paying an additional $200 (wasting $200 on the C2) - I was wondering if pairing the RF-62s with the Synergy C2 center would sound OK for home theatre?

  5. Thanks for the info guys. I'm a newb when it comes to home theater.

That said, I've got another question on pairing.

Once I get my RS-42s in, should I buy the reference RB-61s, or the B2 or B3 Synergy series? Again, I'm worried about timber matching/tonal matching my F2s and C2. Will the RB-61s work OK with this setup, or should I really go B2 or B3?

  6. Wish I got this a few hours ago! I ended up getting the RS-42s for $225 shipped, no tax at 6ave.com. They have a promotion going on where you "name your own price". I kept offering prices, first $275, they accepted, then $250, they accepted, then $225, they accepted. I couldn't get lower than that though. I figured for $225, it was a steal. I'll probably ship back the S1s since I don't have the place for a 7.1 setup yet. Or should I keep them around for future use?

  7. Question on pairing Reference Surrounds with Synergy Fronts.

I've got the F2s, and C2. I also currently have the S1 rears that I bought for $140. I can get a PAIR of RS-42s for $275. Or, I can buy a pair of S-2s for over $350 (yikes!)

What should I do? Should I return the S1s and buy the RS-42s for 2x as much (140 vs 275)?

Should I return the S1s and buy the S2s at over $350? (not my preference)

Should I just STICK with the S1s and not buy anything?

Also, will I really notice a difference between the S1 and the RS-42s? - is it worth the extra $140?

That said, how will the RS-42s blend with the F2s and C2? Will there be a tonal mismatch issue? Thanks.
