  1. Hello,

I do own the RF-3s as well as two pairs of the Heritage line speakers: Heresy II & KHorns, and two sets of B&W speakers: 804s and older 803s. I have also listened to RF-82s several times at HiFi stores with good demo rooms. Conclusion: They are generally BAD speakers. The sound is neither krisp, not transparent and clear as expected. IMHO the whole line is no good and only suits a mid-range home theater setup. The ONLY modern Klipsch speakers that are REALLY good are ... the Heritage series ones.

Yes, they look outdated, and are wide/big/tall. But the sound is crisper and clearer by an order of magnitude. Even the cheapest heresy speakers sound considerably better/more balanced than any Reference series speakers. B&Ws (any 8xx series) are also much better (but more expensive as well).

So as far as it comes to listening to serious, quality music, I would not recommend any Klipsch speakers besdies the Heritage ones...

    Kind regards,
    Leo

I actually tested B&W 683 briefly @bestbuy and like them. Those are the only B&W speakers I experienced.

What is your opinion on those? How about 7xx series and CM8 series?

My budget is around 2K, or 3K at a stretch.

I also heard KEF XQ is pretty good, but have a hard time to try to demo them.

PS. Sorry if I talked too much about other brands here. After all it is a Klipsch forum. [:$]

Oops, just noticed 7xx is discontinued.

  2. Hi,

Is the RF-82 II good for classical music?

I have tested a RF-52 II and 62 II from a local dealer a short while ago. Between the two, 62 definitely sounds better and "richer".

And recently I also checked out a used RF-82 (not II model), I like the high and mid range, but the bass is a little too strong. Even after the owner changed the setting, it still doesn't sound as good as mid and high ranges. It is hard to describe it.

Just wonder what are the improvements on new RF-82 II? I can't find a local place to test it out.

Also is the RF series designed more suitable for HT instead of music?

    Thanks.

  3. I've been a "lurker" on this forum for about ~7 years, and never had a whole lot to say, until today when I drove an hour + to demo the RF82's with the intention of buying them today from the closest reference dealer to me, just to find out they literally just closed their doors. They didn't even change their answering machine to say they were no longer open. I suppose I am just going to "have" to buy them from amazon.com...

That happened to me last week, I drove about 20 mins to the closest dealer during the lunch break, but found out they/he closed out and won't come back until 1:20. [:(]

To my surpirse, it is a small shop, kind of like small radio shack size, not very well organized looking through the windows. Doesn't look like a good demo env. I was expecting something like a car dealership. LOL. Maybe I asked too much.

  4. Thank you guys for the laughs.

I am pretty sure this package is pretty good for movies, should be much better than my onkyo 6.1 HTIB.

I am more concerned with musics especially classics. I heard they lacks in mid range and the sub is too boomy for musics. What is your opinions?

Will upgrading to 62 or 82 solve the problem? or even 7?

  5. Hi I am new to Klipsch and HiFi, and found this forum very informative and friendly.

I recently got a package deal including Onkyo 608, RF-52 II, RC-52 II, RB-51 II and RW-12d, but haven't received them yet.

Normally I spend 70/30 on movies and music (classics, pop, jazz).

The more I read I felt the urge to upgrade to higher models. [:D] So don't know if it makes sense to sell this package, maybe be able to make some money for bigger boxes.

So before I open the boxes, I would like to check out the different models.

Bestbuy only has HTIB speakers. Also called a relatively close by dealer, he only has 42, 52 and 62 for demo.

Is that common for most dealers? Any other places to check out? (I live in south Boston area.)

And what do you think of 52s for classics?

    Thanks a lot.
