  1. So...I turned the subs all the way up, and the AVR up to about 85%...and it was impressive when playing some YouTube vid and it was impressive. It actually shut down the amp twice.
  2. kind of. there are a lot of suggestions but they basically boil down to clean up the power going to the amp or explore the polarity issue at the driver. the other stuff is fine tuning which i'll get to eventually. i had to fly to DC yesterday morning. i'm flying back home now and i'll have this weekend to mess with it. i first plan to hook up the cleanbox and see if that makes a difference. i'll then try reversing the wires on the drivers and see if some different combination will make a difference. failing that....i'll build a huge bonfire and throw them in it. kidding. i'll pick up a volt meter to see what juice i'm getting at the boxes to eliminate the amp, i'll use something to measure the db levels so i can more accurately share what's going on with you guys.
  3. Nice Subs! They look really good. Do you have the low pass or high pass set to 20hz? If its low pass then only content below 20hz are going to the subs which might be the issue. A 20hz high pass will allow everything above 20hz to come to the sub and will protect it from going lower than the driver can handle. From watching an episode of Home Theater Geeks they suggest moving the subs 25% from the front wall and have seating position 20% from the back wall for a good staring point on freq response. Maybe you are in a null at your current location? Did you see what twk wrote here? Yep. I had the correct one set. I just couldn't remember which it was since I wasn't home at the time.
  4. Lol. See. That's exactly what I mean. I didn't spend all this time and money to only have a mildly annoyed wife when I go upstairs. I want to have her come down shouting and asking wtf is wrong with me. And for the dog to start peeing on the floor. Not, hmmm...this is louder than my 12".
  5. Just for the heck of it I ordered a Cleanbox Pro and good XLR cables for between the Cleanbox and the amp. We'll see...
  6. The best part is that when anyone googles the Stonehenge build in the future they're going to come across my rambling posts and think, "wtf is wrong with this dude?" Lol
  7. When you say you reversed polarity, do you mean swapped all the red and black connections? And it might just be my inexperienced ear. Or I'm expecting too much.
  8. i think a lot of the headache was just me and my inexperience. they are working now...just not inspiring.
  9. yep. signals look fine on the amp meter. when i have the avr turned way up the signal is maxed with the red....danger light on.
  10. Here's the full build album in reverse order. Sorry. http://imgur.com/a/1KKWT
  11. Eh...I just thought I'd match the angle of the fronts. I don't think I like it and will turn them back.
  12. Oh… Please excuse the wires running around the room. Unfortunately I didn't order enough speaker wire and so now I have to order 100 feet or so from Monoprice.
  13. Ok guys. I finished them off. I put them in the place I think I'm going to keep them but I need to run some sound checks obviously. They sound decent, but I don't think anything changed with the new amp. I'm still not overwhelmed at all and that is pretty disappointing, but they certainly have volume now that I ran the Audyssey setup. I would like to get a voltage meter to double check the power going to them because I still don't think they're putting out everything they should be. Any suggestions as to where or which one to get? I guess my biggest issue is that they're not punchy at all. They can get loud, but I'm not feeling pounding in my chest or anything during heavy scenes. I have the low pass filter set at 20 Hz and didn't do anything with the high pass filter. Or maybe I have those backwards. Here's a couple pictures of the finished product.

  16. I'm just outside Indy. I know there are a couple of guys around here but I'd hate to ask for that until I am completely certain I'm in over my head.
  17. It's on a truck and will be at my house shortly. I should just live stream my work tonight so you you can chime in with suggestions. :-)
  18. This is what I got. I'd be happy to try something else. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000068O4D
  19. The signal meter is moving during activity. But the lights that light up when you're pumping a bunch of juice through rarely lights up unless you have the AVR way, WAY up.
  20. I don't have another amo to try. The new one will be here shortly though. There are no physical switches in the unit. Just the menus I've posted. It does have a way to browse through the same menu using buttons on the amp itself. I'm a bit confused as to the first part of your question. That is currently how I have it set up already. AVR to RCA to Amp to speaker wire to sub
  21. Test output using a voltage meter? And when you say "in phase" do you mean positive and negative lined up correctly? I'm certain I have the Speakon connectors done with +1/-1 and the positive going to positive speaker connection, and then to one of the coil positives, and then jumped to the other cool positive. Same with the negative.
  22. yep. i had it in stereo mode. and not sure about the high pass question. here's a screenshot of that menu ...
  23. At halfway I literally can't even hear them. I have another Inuke OTW super glad I got it from Amazon. I love their shipping and return policies.
  24. well....not so far. i'm going to return the inuke and if a different one will have better results
