Read through this thread you'll find quite a few differences spotted by other buyers alond with pictures:

  2. I received my new S4 earphones yesterday. They were purchased from and shipped by Amazon. The volume is low and the bass is extremely weak. Since good bass is a claim of these earphones, I'm perplexed. I'm using them with a SanDisk mp3 player. The original earbuds sound better than the S4 earphones. The $10 pair of Sony earbuds I bought are light years better than the S4 earphones. Do the S4 earphones require more power than lesser priced earphones? If so, I'll just keep them until I buy a new smartphone. If they're faulty, back they go.

Low volume, Weak Bass. Happened to me when i switched out the medium ear buds (which fit me right) and tried the 'cool' double flanged buds [:D] The sound was weak, hollow and bass just poof! disappeared. Getting the earbud fit/size right is important, it's possible that none of the the sizes included work for you in that case try Comply T-100 Foam Ear tips. Just do a search on youtube and you'll find quite a few reviews.

  3. I too have a question about the authenticity of my headphones. When I received them I thought, wow these dont sound so great my $20 Sony buds sound better. Then I started doing some research and came across this thread.

I purchased from Buy.com via reseller Sebago Trading.

They came in the blue cardboard packaging but with the L connector. In addition 3 sets of buds came in a plastic bag and they also came with the pick. The metal tin had a big dent in the bottom.

Is it possible to know if they are authentic or not from what I described above? Are they just old stock?

    thanks

edit- somebody posted pics of an authentic pair, the inside has what looks like a mesh screen inside the tube. Mine do not.

Dunno, i got my S4 for $21 on ebay and they do have the silver mesh thingy in them. so does the S4i that i got from a different seller (also on ebay). I believe the S4i used to have the L-shaped plug, but not the S4 (?) not certain....

Edit: A friend just brought around a pair of S4 earphones with the smooth nozzle that had been declared a fake by a klipsch rep in this: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/159153.aspx thread and it happens to have the silver mesh inside....[*-)]

  4. Hello,

I am trying to decide whether my image S4s are counterfeit. I am 80% sure they are, since the Klipsch logo is fading and I bought it on amazon for $60. However in terms of sound quality, I cannot be sure, since I don't have any other decent headphones to compare with. So I tested using the frequency meter on this page: http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/hearing.html. I played the sounds at different frequencies and found that the sound in my earphones dies down beyond 4KHz and almost inaudible at 8KHz and above. As for the low frequencies, the sound level starts to decrease below 125Hz and I cannot hear anything below 45Hz. Klipsch image s4 specs says frequency response 10Hz-19KHz. It cannot be my ears audible range, since I played the sounds on my macbook pro's internal speakers, and I could hear 8 and 12KHz just fine.

So here is my request: Could somebody (with proper verified genuine image S4s) go to this website and verify the frequency response. DO NOT PLAY THE SOUNDS AT HIGH DECIBELS AND PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THEIR PAGE. Please let me know if you can hear 8KHz and above frequencies and 30Hz and below without changing the decibel level (most importantly whether the frequency response remains flat beyond these ranges, for mine its not)

Additionally, if someone with verified fake S4s could confirm my above findings, that would be helpful too.

I would be grateful if anybody could help me out, for it will allow me to decide for sure whether my earphones are fake.
    Many thanks

Wouldn't something like this be simpler:

    With my ebay (fake/real [*-)]) Klipsch S4 earphones i get 0.04 - 1.37

  5. I recently purchased a pair of S4 and S4i each costing $21 and $38 respectively. I don't know if they're fake or genuine, the low price obviously is a red flag... But after having scoured these forums for posts about how to spot a fake i'm confused because all signs point to these being the real deal [*-)]

I own a pair of Sennheiser HD215 cans that have amazing clarity so i'm not easy to impress, but these sound pretty good to me. SQ has gotten better after a couple days of use, base not owerpowering anymore, better definition etc..

I took some pics of all the things to look for in a fake... what do you guys think???

And i was able to see a fine silver mesh inside both pairs of earphones, just couldn't photograph them [:P]

P.S. : The 'klipsch' logo did not rub off even after vigorous scratching with my nails [:D]
