  1. Bruce, I have access to OK scopes (TDS540). I have function generators which is not the same thing. What sort of signal generation do I need? I use LabVIEW there is signal generation capability in some of the hardware I have, but I never had any reason to investigate it. I might investigate CDs with tones and noise. I was thinking I would try to make all changes reversible/changeable and verify by listening. I don't have a plan though. I need to live with them a while or I won't be able to judge any changes I make. Even though I have a scope an know how to use it, I have no idea what I would do with it inside an audio amp. In the near term this is probably not something I will do a lot of. "Fully finish" is probably not something that happens for me over less than years. What Mark Deneen was doing to the D45 seemed simple enough for me to follow his steps. Any thoughts out there on a SS pre-amp kit that I might try? I want tone control, I think. Although I don't know what is involved now that I have said it. Thanks, Mike
  2. Most of my listening has migrated to Spotify, Pandora, and such. My inclination is to think that I haven't even heard most of the good music out there, and those sources are the best for finding surprises. I am not sure the best way to get from laptop PC to stereo system. Is there such a thing as a better way to get and play music from the Internet? Some sort of good sound card in a little box with browser capability? Like an Internet music player? Thanks to you all for building up a fine forum over the years, BentMike
  3. Greetings, I am new posting here, but have been reading in 2chA a lot that's been written about the Crown D-45. I happened on a D-75A in the surplus system at NC State where I am building a lab. Then a Sanyo preamp, and a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 5s (had to fix an Xover) all turned up there as some program or other shut down and the bits become orphaned. This system has basically ruined me for my home system - a Scott 325R and a pair of Sansui SP3500, which sounds really annoying and tinny now. I have no attachment to this setup as it was assembled years ago from used and unplanned acquisitions. So, I am working towards a better home stereo. I got a D-75A from eBay for $88 and shipping. I like how the old Polks sound and if I am patient I can get something pretty good that still suits my frugal nature. I probably only need a pair of 5's for my room, but I would ****** up any 7's, 10's or even 12's if it were to happen that way. I know less about preamps than anything so that is the query I have: What are some good preamp options for the D-75A and some vintage Polks? I don't really know how to even think about preamps. I read the mdeneen threads about upgrading the D-45 and would like to mess around with my Crown, There was talk about impedence matching the D-45 to LowZ Peach. I can't afford that level of preamp. But I gather I should show some discretion in picking a preamp. Suggestions of good preamp buys to look for? I can build a kit and enclose it. I just don't know where to start. Is there anymore to find here in the forums or outside about tweaking the D-75s? Thanks for helping, BentMike PS-How do I get my carriage returns to show up in a posting? Thanks for the hint about the CR!
