What is your opinion about De Havilland aries-845 amplifiers??
-
What preamplifier are you using with the 45 DRDs?
-
KT120 is a nice tube as well!
-
They make very good OTL as well as SET amplifiers, although prices are very high..
-
I have a nice subwoofer, the WHT bass clef:
http://www.whtspeakers.com/sub.htm
which helps a lot. So, even if the small tubes are weak in the bass, I can manage to have enough
-
Thank you very much Eric!
I really appreciate it! OTL could be a very nice solution.
-
I also have an Accuphase, class A, which I like very much. I just think that a very good tube amplifier has a magic midrange...
The Accuphase is more transparent, but more bright..
-
My amp fills the room easily. I never used the full power of this amp, although I play very loud.
Just wondering whether these tubes provide a better sound in low to normal levels..

Hi, I am using a 845 base amplifier. I have seen so many posts regarding the ability of 45 or 2A3 tubes to deliver live music.
I listen to jazz, blues, female vocals, classical.
People say that the 45's are really the best with intimate, small ensemble stuff. The 2A3's are better when the music is amplified, and the ensembles are larger.
Do you think that the 45 or 2A3 based amplifiers are better than the 845 for the Khorns? The power is enough for these monsters?

How to choose the right gauge, and type??
-
Indeed, I have a coaxial wire. Not a good type of cable??
Moreover, how many gauge do I need???
These Cross-Connected Belden 89259 DIY Hi-Fi Speaker Cables look good..

Hi March1!
I have an Accuphase cd player , the dp 55, which is old but good enough.
I also have the metric halo connected to my iMac for digital music.
I also have the Accuphase T-1000 tuner, an excellent and expensive tuner.
The length of the speaker cables is 3.5 meters.
Thanks!

Thanks Roger!
I really appreciate your answer to my question.
All you need is a decent cable. I am happy with my Mogami 3082 cables.
Just wanted to know whether "high end" cables will add something to the music.
You made clear that it is better to spend money to upgrade the amplifier, or the digital/analog source
than cables.
Thanks again!
Nikolas

I am using the mogami 3082 speaker cable, which is fairly good, for the price.
My question is, if you have speakers that cost $15000 and amplifier which costs even more,
are you ok with cheap but good cables?
The expensive cables will add something to the overall performance of the system?
Or this is a myth?
-
So, most of you suggest cheap copper cables.
Don't you think that the good speaker cables are more neutral,
and a significant part of the system??
As well as the interconnects and power cords?
-
12g outdoor/underground low voltage light wire?? Thanks!
Did you like that amplifier? 300B is good, but low power..
-
Hello! I have a Viva Audio Solista MKIII Single Ended class A integrated amplifier, using 845 tubes. really nice with my Khorns.
What speaker cables do you suggest? I suppose good quality copper cables. Any suggestions? I've been told that Synergistic Research element is good. What do you think?

Hi! Sorry for the late response, I was not at home during the last 4 days..
My Khorns are new, not used and just new for me..
Accuphase is really a good amplifier, but some times the sound is too bright,
or there are harshness problems..
The last one is probably not a problem of the amplifier, but a problem of the Khorns.
People say that the tweeter, drivers, and crossovers of Khorns are not of great quality..
Others say that Khorns play their best with tube amplifiers, and specially with SET.
That's why I am asking what tubes are good.
The small 2A3 or 300B, or the bigger 211 or 824. Perhaps KT120 as well.
Mac could be good as well, the MC275.. Never had the chance to listen to this amp..
-
Marantz is really good.
Has anyone compared different tubes with Khorns? I wonder which one is better, given that Khorns need some power..
2A3? 300B? 211? 845? KT120? a different one??
-
Hi Again! As you know, I have a new pair of Klipschorns.
Lately, I had some interesting conversations with some people.
Two conclusions/answers:
1. Klipschorns like tubes. But which one?? 2A3? 300B? or the bigger 845, 211, or KT120??
2. Some say, Klipschorns are good, but Tannoy Canterbury or Westminster are much better, so sell the Khorns and buy Tannoys.
What do you think???
Of course the Khorns will be upgraded..
-
Thank you very much for the valuable information!
-
So the harshness is a problem of the Khorns and the Accuphase reveals that problem. People suggest tube amplifiers because tubes mask this problem. Interesting.. So the first step is to upgrade the Khorns, and then see whether the Accuphase is good or not..
-
Thank you very much for all these suggestions! Indeed my Accuphase is a very very good amplifier,
but with Khorns sometimes is too bright. For example, the tenor saxophone I listen from Khorns is not the real one. The same with trumpets.. But it is very transparent, the sound is very clear, very detailed. I would like to compare this sound with that from a good tube gear, class A, in order to decide which one is better for me. Perhaps I will go back to Accuphase. Or a nice power amplifier like the Accuphase A-46 or A-65 with a good preamplifier, like Accuphase C-2820. Or perhaps a tube preamplifier with an Accuphase power amplifier. All these combinations are under question.
Additionally, the Khorns upgrade is an open question too. Will I improve the sound with the big V-Trac horns, the BMS 4592ND Midrange Drivers and Beyma CP25 Tweeters, the TK400 Crossover Networks, Crites 1526C woofers, and a wiring kit? Did anyone spent $3800 to do that? and what are the results?
45/2A3 tube amplifier for Khorns. Is power enough?

Well, do you have any experience with De Havilland aries-845 amplifiers??
