  1. Meagain:

Andy (HDBRbuilder) had a lot of early inside info on the Jubilee. This should appeal to you:

The plans for the home-version Jubilee when I saw it were to incorporate a vertically adjustable arcing device for the tweeter horn...IOW...you could adjust its aim up and down somewhat...using screw-wheel adjusters at the rear of the mounting of it...and all of this VISIBLE hardware was/is? planned to be gold anodized, etc...for aesthetic reasons...the center finely veneered panel was also designed to be removable and replaceable...so that one could adapt the speaker to changing decor of the room over time....whereas the Klipschorn is "what you see is what you get"!: aesthetic versatility matchpoint, Jubilee!

  2. Silly me, I shoulda known measurements
    mean absolutely nothing!

Well, you are being silly, but that's okay. No one said measurements mean absolutely nothing, except you, just now. This is a classic way to try to counter an argument--twist your opponent's statement into something ridiculous that he never said, and then demolish it.

If you decide what speakers to buy based on a spec sheet instead of a live audition, then I'm sorry but there's no help for you.

  3. I find it most unlikely the Jubilee was intended by PK to replace the Klipschorn. I firmly believe PK intended for it to supplant the Khorn at the top of the food chain BUT the Khorn is Klipsch's claim to fame - "So good, we have been building the same speaker for 50 years"; you would have to be the biggest marketing fool of all time to drop it. Such a FUBAR would make Coca Cola's experiment with "new coke" the holy grail of marketing coups.

You're absolutely right here. Replacing the Khorn! That does not pass the giggle test, guys.

  4. I can also tell you that the Jub clone cabinets I have sound remarkably like lascalas but with more output. They do not sound like my Khorns at all.

Exactly, Mark. You alone of Jub auditioners and owners understand that the Jub and the Khorn sound different enough that you can't really make a meaningful comparison. Based on what you've written here, and I think in the past, I look at the Jub as a Super La Scala.

  5. Again, there are a lot of assertions being made here, but no evidence beyond someone's opinion.

Sorry, guys, but what I've said before is incontrovertible:

    1) The home Jubilee as envisioned by PWK does not exist. A bastardized rendition can be special ordered, and a 3-way behind-the-screen cinema version is available.

    2) The 402 is a godawful looking horn for a home environment.

    3) Any two speaker designs will sound different. Which is better? That's a matter of taste. Judging speakers by specs? LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL. That was a good one, Dr. Who.

  6. I don't think it's accurate to say the Jubilee is better than the Khorn. "Different" than the Khorn

would be a much better way of putting it. Is a La Scala better than a Cornwall? They're so different that a comparison is pretty pointless. Some people will prefer one over the other for particular situations, other people the other one.

  7. I'm very skeptical that it was meant to replace the Klipschorn. Let's see some evidence of that in PWK's own words. Maybe he said something like that in the original write-up? Anyway, I'm happy that you THINK it exceeds the Khorn by a large margin. There are people who think a Bose Wave Radio is better than a Khorn too.

But the specific "it" I was talking about to Meagain was the 402 horn, which is designed for behind a movie screen placement, and was not a part of the home Jubilee configuration as envisioned by PWK.

As far as not being able to afford veneer, if you can afford a Jubilee, you should be able to afford veneer. Isn't that a bit like buying a Jaguar but not being able to afford leather seats?

  8. The horn.... Are the edges of the horn flat? And, is it really possible there's not some type of super-thin veneer one could put on the inside of it? Some amazing product available in the world to pull that off without affecting the sound? Or, would at least grill cloth over it ruin things sonically? Use the same veneer for a grill frame as on the bass bin....

It was designed to go behind a movie screen, so I'd think that so-called acoustically transparent grille cloth wouldn't hurt a darned thing, and probably improve it.

And also agree on the relatively simple after-purchase veneer possibilities. You couldn't get a much easier situation than that front rectangle.

  9. Your comments on the CCa are interesting. I think I have an interesting alternative to the CCa and other NOS 6922, but I haven't actually tried it in the Peach just yet. I have redesigned the BlueBerry line out stage with a totally new tube, and so far I am blown off my chair by the results. It's probably a change I will make in the near future - Xtreme2 - or something like that. Blacker background, quieter, deeper clarity levels, unbelievable focus. Trying it in the Peach is a bit more involved, but I plan to try it this week or next with all three tubes in the Peach.

So, did you finally find the 12AX7 outperforms the 6DJ8?

  10. I assume they come with the option of being naked of paint?

Nope. Available only in black. I think it's so imperfections can be slopped over with lots of paint. Remember, they are built not to be seen, so generally speaking any of the behind the screen speakers do not have to meet the same finish standards as home speakers.

  11. I'd love to see a consumer Jubilee with real wood veneer and a wooden horn (similar to this Usher horn I Photoshopped into this pic last year). As great sounding as the pro Jubilee is, its pro audio aesthetics just do nothing for me visually. I'm not dissing anyone's home Jubilees; you're all extremely lucky to own 'em and enjoy their sonics...I just don't care for their pro looks, not in a home setting (I suppose it's the WAF in me). Just how much more could it cost Klipsch to design, tool and build wood veneered consumer Jubs? If there's an honest to goodness interest in them, why not give the consumer what he/she wants? They resurrected the Cornwalls after so much hoopla afterall, although I also realize the Cornwall's much cheaper to construct since it's only a box. I dunno...I'd just like to see PWK's final design come to full fruition.

Good points, Jim. I gotta say, though, I think the Usher horn looks obscene.

  12. I have owned over 50 cd players in the past few years, the best soincs IMHO absolutely come with a tube stage.

If you can keep track of whether player #44 was better than player #21, and in what particulars, you've got one superhuman memory. I can't usually remember what I went downstairs to get, until I go back upstairs again.

  13. It's always kinda sad to see the pictures of the Jubilee you posted and think about what might have been. The bass bin is done. But then we see a Jub with no top, and then we see one (severely scratched besides) with the littler horn (was it 502?--I don't remember the number). Of course what is missing is the way PWK had the top envisioned, and we're told that, Oh, it cost too much. PWK, please meet Mr. Bean Counter.

I look at it like I do when listening to an unfinished symphony, with a mixture of exhilaration and sorrow.

  14. My current plan is to basically build a picture frame out of Rosewood to frame the 402, I have the Grill cloth that I may or may not attach to the backside of the frame. I will wait till they are finished and see how the look without the cloth. I will use grill cloth on the bass bins.

Sounds promising and looking forward to the final pictures. If it turns out well, I betcha Klipsch copies your plan.
