  1. Parrot... you might get a perverse kick out of this. When we went to Hope last summer, several of us got there a couple days early. One day we had the chance to swing by the factory and the Jubilee that Roy was going to 'audition' for us was in the test chamber. Of coruse we all wanted to see inside there and all that, but while in there, Roy asked "Would you like to HEAR the Jubilee?"

Well, I think our collective answer was "well DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" and we all scurried into the test chamber and they shut the door.

This thing was sitting in a very imposing way on a stand with a mic a couple feet in front of it.

As we were preparing, I was asking myself..."I wonder what he'll play for us?"

    Freebird?

    Frank Sinatra?

    Bee Gees?

Then it started. The volume (thankfully) wasn't anywhere near its capability but it started none the less. We were getting a sneak listen to the Jube...

Then the sound grew a bit... what piece did he bestow upon our ears, but a test tone sweep!!!!

    [:o]

Funny story, Coytee. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Have you figured out the huge difference yet between the Jubilee and the Heritage speakers regarding this...

Yeah, the Jubilee is a huge step backwards because it has a big black horn. EQ'ing with a horn is good. EQ'ing with a network is bad. A consistant and equal coverage pattern is inferior to an unequal coverage pattern, or, a flat power response doesn't sound as good as a power response that isn't. The K-403 is the king of horns, and the Jubilee just isn't a Jubilee without it. No matter that PK couldn't hear a lick above 3kHz when he propped the thing up there. Both the K-510 and K402 are pure unmitigated junk because they are the horns Roy likes. No matter that PK chose Roy to build them all -- Roy doesn't have a clue. Finally, higher sensitivity, lower distortion, and superior measurements in all categories are not worth pursuing. They have no impact "in the real world".

Very good! [:D] But possibly a little harsh.

  3. no that was the one in which i would respond to you!!

    Do you mean "wouldn't"?

    But
either way, "would" or "wouldn't," I have noticed a pattern in what you
will and won't discuss. First of course there was the whole Al K.
matter, then the 402 vs 403 matter, then not coming up with anything in response to mas. But do go on entertaining the peanut gallery.
  4. That is really interesting. I recall someone recently making a huge deal about collapsing verticals in order to promote a different horn.

LOL, did you completely miss the half dozen posts by Roy in the other threads where he explained all of this. I guess you were to busy trying to think up new ways to badger him about asthetics and the K-403 to actually spend any time trying to understand what he was saying. Why not go back into those threads and read the posts again? It will save everyone the trouble of having to explain everything to you yet again.

Which posts and threads do you mean, Junior? Was one of them the one in which the Bad Cowboy wouldn't respond to mas?

  5. i am not sure cause we never talked about it but i do know that paul liked for the horn to do some eqing that is why he like collapsing verticals. maybe he liked the freq response better.

  6. mas, you might be, and probably are one of the good guys. I thought Roy was paying you some respect in this regard. Maybe like Parrot was suggesting (although I don't know where his post has vanished to...) you could open up a dialogue with Roy.

My post went where all the best posts go, Edwin. But, no, I wasn't suggesting that at all. Someone who responds to a serious request for info by saying he wants a note from mas's mother?

  7. This might be the better way for me to go. Start with base unit, then go ga-ga with the mods. Then push the whole deal with a couple of crappy chip amps.:)

Yeah, digital EQ, digital delay, cheap digital amps. That's the audiophile route!

  8. Sam Kim certainly straightened up a lot of wires. It barely looks like an EICO anymore at all. But I hope anyone at audiogon who is considering buying this unit reads Stereophile's measurements by John Atkinson:

    http://www.stereophile.com/integratedamps/606eico/index4.html

Although some aspects of its measured performance were okaythe fairly

low output impedances, the mainly second-harmonic nature of its

distortion signature, the honest power ratingthe EICO HF-81's poor

low- and high-frequency linearity, its under-performing phono stage,

and the idiosyncratic nature of its tone controls leave me scratching

my head about why so many audiophiles regard it as one of the

best-sounding amplifiers of the "Golden Age."
    John Atkinson

I'm assuming that Sam Kim improved the stock HF-81, but who knows.

Bill, if you ever thought of selling yours, there's no better time than when an ultra-expensive unit is being advertised!

  9. Here's a better answer. Why should any consultants and designers spec them when there are plenty of companies who not only specialize in state of the art commercial product lines, but who are also more than willing to not only provide data, but to provide value added services that help consultants to spec and recommend their products?

No wonder they are running EAW, Renkus Heinz and Community* out of business! NOT!

    * (and others. But subjecting you to Meyer is not a nice thing to do to a friend!)

But Klipsch has already sold six pairs of the speakers. They must be doing something right that you're not giving them credit for.
