There is another thread on this site regarding the humming issue in which StPete Cooling said the hum was almost always caused by 2 100 uf capacitors by the two small black heatsinks on the main board. Many people on that thread fixed their hum problem by replacing them. My ProMedia 5.1 had a terrible ear shattering hum. (Started off low and gradually got worse.) After reading StPete's suggestion I went to Radio Shack. 30 minutes and $3.58 later my problem was fixed.

I am another camper who registered on these forums only to thank Stpete Cooling for his advice. After a quick trip to Radio Shack for the capacitors and about 30 minutes of work I am once again enjoying the sound of the best computer speakers I have ever owned. NO MORE HUM!!!
Thank you StPete.
On another note....I still have an audible hissing. It's not really a big problem when playing loud music, but at higher volumes and when there are quiet passages or no music playing, it is quite annoying. Any tips for this one, Pete?
