  1. Klipsch's online support offered me to replace the whole subwoofer for about 20 bucks + shipping + taxes. They also said they not do parts that I was looking for. The subwoofer replacement could only be done through the phone (800-554-7724), currently back ordered (4-6 weeks), and have long waits to answer. I e-mailed back if it can be online, and they said no. Lame! I gave up since I found a local small store in Garden Grove with the parts. :P

  2. I think your best bet would be to find replacement drivers from partsexpress.com.

On the surface these look like a good fit but a little pricey http://www.parts-express.com/tang-band-w6-1139sif-6-1-2-paper-cone-subwoofer-speaker--264-919

You could try the cheaper option of these http://www.parts-express.com/goldwood-gw-406d-6-1-2-poly-dvc-subwoofer-shielded--290-352

$48/each or $15/each. At $96/pair, you might be better off buying a replacement sub on eBay for parts.

Replace the whole part and not just the foam? The rubber foam rings was already removed. Too bad Klipsch doesn't sell parts. They wanted me to replace the whole thing! Um, no if it works. Just need part replacements. :(

  3. I'm back. My parents wanted to use my broken old speakers with their new HDTV. Its subwoofer is still busted when we tested it. My dad()dy)/father/pa(ppy) decided to remove the side dust covers. We saw the rubber rings broken and cracked. Without the rubbers, the subwoofer still makes bad noises. Putting duct tapes over the circle piece seems to help a little. :( However, he did like the surround sound. ;)

  4. Awesome.

And ofcourse, we're 12 years older too LOL

I bought pc speakers (Accoustic Energy) of a similar quality at the time because the Klipsch speakers weren't available here, and they're *still* on my desk too. Talking about value for money. I keep telling that to ppl, good quality speakers will outlast quite a few pc systems. So a good headphone/ speaker setup is a good investment in my opinion.

Heh, I wished mine were still working fully (its subwoofer went bust -- no more bass, all stutterings). Mine lasted almost a decade by about nine months (12/1999 to 3/7/2009). :(

  5. Interesting. Since I cannot find a Klipsch brand, I might get Bose even though it costs more. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7933748&st=Bose+Companion+3+series+II&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1152228083992 seems to have high ratings and have it in my local store so I can look and listen to it! However, it is too late today and I want to research more. Any more feedbacks are welcomed.

  6. I messed up in my original post and fixed it. I unplugged ALL speakers and left subwoofer to do some bass part when playing THX, music, etc. It rattlings badly with some low frequencies. :(

Do any local retail stores (e.g., Costco, Walmart, Fry's Electronics, Best Buy) still sell 2.1 speakers because I can't find any! I don't do online ordering.

Also how good is 2.1 speakers compared to the old v2-400 model? I recall people having problems of them dying fast. The only two problems I had were the noisy volume control (got used to it) and subwoofer starting to act up with its old age.

  7. As of last night, it looks like my subwoofer is getting worse. Now, it can't play low frequency bass very well (do still feel and hear a little of those oomphs). I tried a MacBook Pro and same bass problem. I unplugged all the speakers, including the one with control pod, and I still heard the subwoofer rattling badly inside, and little bass. :( If I turn down/off bass on my soundcard, then I do not hear this loud and annoying rattling. I checked all the cables. I did notice if I wiggle the power cable behind the subwoofer, it makes noises. Is that normal?

I think it is time to find a new speaker set. I looked at my local retail stores for Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers (realized I don't really need four or more speakers), but no one seems to have them like Best Buy. What's up with that? :(

Do I have to go to another brand like Cambridge Soundworks (are they any good today?)? :(

    Thank you in advance. :)
