Corwall users have also been known to apply dampening substances to the metal frames of the woofer and the outside of the horn throat. Its kind of like a modelling clay which sticks to the surface and reduces ringing etc.

If you do NOT buy the $75 version WITH the insurance, they show you a video of the "gorillas" who manhandle your tubes. It is not a pretty site. You are better off getting the insurance and keeping your mouth shut. What can you do. Forget about it. The US Post Office is in the same racket, you don't buy the insurance, your package goes through Guantanamo first. The same muscle men who handle the styrofoam packing peanuts are not so gentle if you don't pay for PROTECTION. I don't want to talk about it. I have been having some nightmares. Pretty soon the sellers of electronic appliances are going to get hip to this approach, then it won't be so easy to say NO to those extended warranties, that is if you still plan on using your knees for anything. In fact, these "extended warranties under pressure" may be how our economy may have to survive, that and more gas taxes. Also a special energy tax if you run triodes Class A. Its the future, man.

I think they get those prices because the tubes do generate positive feedback from critical users. I strongly suspect that those AXs and AUs are really good sounding tubes and they can get away with those prices in a market with such questionable "nos" alternatives these days. Not such good prices for manufacturers etc. but users looking for a viable alternative to high priced NOS, they fill a niche. This is what I found with their 300B, the alternative was ridiculously priced NOS WE (out of the question!), new WE (not quite the same as NOS and also mucho expensive) and some other very high priced alts. The guy answering the phone there seems to know his stuff and has very confident opinions about the products. As much as it hurts to spend (yesterday's) NOS money for NEW now, I think it might be a viable alternative. Just my 2 cents at the moment.

I just wrote a big long inspired response, then accidentally hit something and it disappeared, and now I am too lazy to recreate it. I hate when that happens. Long story short, HF-81+Cornwalls=good for small group jazz, too bright for me with big brass etc. at higher volumes. Was the inspiration for building my overkill Altec 4-way towers tri tube-amped with E. Xver. Also a hats off to Craig of NOS who through his tenacity, thoroughness, and pragmatism found an original mistake in the wiring that was well hidden in the rats nest and fixed the thing and did some upgrading.
HF-81 + Crnwalls = surprisingly great bass response!
It is a quaint vintage relic with all kinds of silly knobs that few girlfriends would want to mess with.

I use their 300B in my diy SET (JE labs circuit) and they were a great improvement (big difference) over the EH Gold, which mostly told me that every amp design may have its optimum tube. With the EH the amp would have been useless to me (mids too bright for horns) but with the Sophia I am enjoying the amps as the midrange for my tri-amp rig. At the time, it didn't seem like there were all that many good options for 300B other than what they were offering.

I recommend the larger PCats if you are trying to catch roof rats. Use a high quality extension cord.

I didn't realize when I posted that this thread was 6 years old, but I did want to share my experiance about this company so other members may be discouraged from heading down this path.
Its all my fault. As soon as my post appeared it automatically made the thread 6 years old. I can't help this, and I don't know what to do about it.

This is the same company that makes that ridiculous turtable platform box with the little inner tubes inside. Years ago I tried one, that was back when he was just getting started.

The product totally sucked and was ill conceived imo, but he did take it back without any argument, that was maybe 4+ years ago before he apparently went off his rocker as an audiophool. Maybe we all should say we want to order something like his custom 300B stereo tube amp, then the next day tell him, never mind because word on the street is that he sucks bigtime.
There goes his 100% feedback rating!
Think I will stick with the likes of Juicymusicaudio and NOSValves and the others here with real integrity. Hey are we spoiled around here or what. Its a cold cruel world out there sometimes.

I guess strictly speaking that would be 8 1/3 rpm. Ah yes, 115 volts....them were the good old days...... this turntable will be a miniscule faster than 8 1/3 rpm with today's voltages....

Of course, at the office I use the Audiotronics 304VT with the upgraded Motorola arm, which some of you saw who were at the get together at Bob Lee's awhile back.

At last, here is the finished turntable ready for use. It will serve my very special purposes perfectly. I will never change. Ever.

I carefully removed the dried out or missing old ones and replaced with the new grommets. Here is the finished rim drive motor.
Note the fact that I have the 8rpm speed. How many here can say that. This is a very special turntable and I am excited to get it going.

Here are the new grommets for the upgrade and also I sawed off the protuding spindle. Was that wrong?

We know for a fact from Antiques Road Show and Heritage Auction House that, stange as it is, at least 50%+ is that original carboard box. Another 45% is the NOS/NIB. So it all makes sense.

After many years I did seem to go through a quad of Mullards in my ClassA Triode ST70 mod. The amp is used to run horn and tweeter in the tri-amp. Hate to use or use up any more high priced Mullards. Who makes good ones today at reasonable prices that might favor the higher hzs?

Rane AC23 active crossover is good solution for my homebuilt Altec based 4-way tri-amp speaker system. JBL 2404H tweeter uses a passive. I enjoy the flexibility and instant control over a very wide range of vinyl recordings. Time delay feature allows for further alignment. I also enjoy other two channel systems using single amps with passive Xvr, and also an open baffle full range with simple L-pad for woofer. They all can be enjoyed in their own way. The primary system is the tri-amp with active crossover because I am hooked on the ability to control parameters on impulse as needed. Totally quiet.
