    RC-3's fetch between $80-$150

RS-3's are somewhat in demand $170-$250 depending on condition.

I think you mentioned you had an RSW-12 as well, Klipsch has yet to make a respectable replacement for those subs, and they're arguably best for music.  The RF-3's you have should clean up quite nice if you just do some minor altercations with the XO.

I'm using a Denon AVR 790 and the RF-3's sound really good. BUT i've got a itch to splurge and treat myself to some new speakers.  I'm very impulsive lately. I'm selling my Yamaha RX-995.  Thinking of selling the RF-3's.  They're in really really good shape. What's the going price you've seen for a pair? Thanks

Yes i do have that sub.  That RS-3 price is for the pair right?

I recently updated the caps and resistors (Dayton caps & Mills resistors) in a pair of RF-3's (about $40 in parts) and it really cleaned up the sound, worth doing IMO if you plan on keeping the speakers.

Thank you for your input.  I might just sell the tower, sub, surrounds, and center as i don't use them for my tv (don't watch much), instead of having all these speaker in my room when i just really want to listen to stereo music. With the money a get from the sale treat myself and spurge on a new pair (don't know what).  The stroke has me reeling a little and kind of confused as what to do.  I just want to hear really good music soon,

@EZsmoke that is the typical Klipsch reply and it is bollocks.  The receiver is not underpowering the speakers.  My god, if that was true EVERY person who owns an AVR from the last 5 years underpowers their speakers and is damaging them.  That's simply not true.  No AVR puts out over 100 WPC All channels driven that's under a few thousand right now, and no one is going to tell me that everyone running Klipsch is dropping that money on an AVR.

    Klipsch's retort is FALSE.

I placed my new XO's on the front bottom of the speaker enclosure and used the included Velcro.  Worked like a charm.  You might need to use where you remove the woofer to remove the XO too.  If I remember right, the XO is larger than the cutout for the terminal cups.

Yes,yes and yes.  When he said that  i called bulls**t.

It could be. I haven't done it, never felt like I needed to. The titanium diaphragm is good enough for me. The bottom woofer is the one you'd remove.

So i guessing you take the bottom woofer out and put the new crossover thru that hole and place on the bottom?

I called Klipsch and the guy i talk to went to a tech and came back and suggested the harshness was because my yamaha RX-V995 at 100 watts being under powered for that 125 watt speaker.  He said if my crossovers looked good (which they do) he wouldn't replace them same with the tweeter if it wasn't blown it's probably ok?  A little confused.

From Bob  :If there is room, I like to mount the crossovers in the bottom of the cabinet.  The board these are built on is 6 X 10.5 inches.  If there is not room, I suggest on a side or back whichever is easier.  We put velcro tabs on the board corners, but I suggest one hole be drilled in the new board for one wood screw to help the Velcro out. That is probably not needed for floor mount, but I would probably do that anyway.

The issue probably is not that Yamaha, although I recommend a stereo receiver or integrated for music. Look at offerings from Integra and Marantz for that mission. You won't be disappointed.

You will almost certainly benefit from upgrading or replacing the crossovers in your RF-3s. The sound difference likely comes from old caps on the RF-3. Bob Crites sells upgraded drop in crossovers now for the 3 though if soldering isn't your bag.

I'm getting ready to order new tweeters from Bob.  I believe i can replace those.  I not sure about doing the crossovers,  I think i can and will probably order them.  Just since the stroke in Jan i'm not myself,  my brain feels mushy and i 've lost my confidence.  Probably be a good project to help me get some of that back.

  7. Great as i'm much more willing to replace the yamaha rx-995 then the speakers.  I would like to try the Bob Crites method on replacing the crossover and maybe the tweeter if possible.  Wondering if i have to take out the bottom woofer to do that crossover work.  I'm not very handy anymore.  More of a plug and play guy now.  Any suggestion on a power souce for the speakers would be welcomed.  Budget around $500-$700  for integrated amp/ or receiver.

Was up way to late last night following a couple of thread on the replacing of the old caps.  Was very impressed with what was being done in those threads.  I am certainly not as capable as those fellows (especially since the stroke).  Looked at Bob Crites site and am very interested in what he's doing.  When you say drop in, i'm wondering what that involves?

That's good, that would help alot. If we don't get some other advice we can start another thread asking about  stereo receivers that could help you with the brightness. It's sometimes slow on the weekend.

I will change your question and see if that gets some help. If you don't want or like the change PM me and I will change it back, no problem.

Just want some other amp ideas or ways to fix the problem. If people notice it they will help.

I really appreciate your help with this thread.

  10. Hi I'm new to the forum and have been away from home stereo music listening for years. I have unboxed my old Yamaha RX-V995, Yamaha YP-701 tt with a Shure V-15 Type III cartridge ( new $100 stylus), a crap JVC cd player and Klipsch RF-3 speakers. I am listening to mainly lp's and cd's in 2 channel. The room is 15 x 20. The sound is ok but seems to bright and causing ear fatigue. I don't remember it being this way. I have recently at age 60 suffered a VAD/with stroke (from weightlifting) and before i check out i feel the need to hear some good music. I am willing to replace any of the components except the speakers unless i absolutely have to. Was seeking input on this. Could maybe get a new or used integrated amp and defiantly a new CD player. I believe the RX-V995 has a good DAC in it. Sorry if this is confusing, thats the world my head is currently in alway feel dazed and confused.
