  1. Being the newbie I will ask the newbie question...

If I buy a nice reciever with 6 or 7 powered channels of amplification does it function as both amp and reciever or will I need to buy an amp in addition to it?

looking at a reference 3 series:

    -2 RF-3 II(fronts)

    -2 RS-3 II(surrounds)

-2 RC-3 II (center and rear center)

    -SVS pci21-30 (sub)

    with a Marantz SR-6200 or a Denon 3802 as amp/rec.

  2. would the Marantz SR-6200 make a good amp/rec for this system?

    -2 RF-3 II(fronts)

    -2 RS-3 II(surrounds)

-2 RC-3 II (center and rear center)

    -SVS pci21-30 (sub)

I am a newb to Home Theater design and sounds systems in general. So I will ask the newbie question... Will this Marantz function as both receiver and amp?

  3. Howdy Rocknon is back to ask a final question of his "advisors to sound",

I am thinking bout getting a full reference 3 serries

    -2 RF-3 II(fronts)

    -2 RS-3 II(surrounds)

-2 RC-3 II (center and rear center)

    -SVS pci21-30 (sub)

If so I would need an amp/rec that covers 6.1 channel surround eh? If that is the case what kind of amp/rec do you guys suggest that would run somewhere around $600-$800

currently looking into the Denon AVR3802, Harman Kardon AVR, and the Yamaha RX-V3000 (little pricey)

  5. From what everyone has posted it looks like a full set of Klipsch for my 2 fronts,2 surrounds, and center/back is the way to go. I was originally looking at a Synergy 6 system to cover these speakers but it comes with a base(I do not really prefer) and only one center/back. From what Doug_Drake and a few others have said I would get much better sound from the Reference Series. Thus I am considering:

    -2 RF-3 II

    -2 RS-3 II

    -2 RC-3 II

With a Denon AVR3802(skonopa suggested) or a Harman Kardon AVR (mOOn suggested) as the reciever/amp.

The sub however I am kinda undecided on. HornED has advised some KLF-10's, 20's or 30's. (Are these just subs or do they function as both fronts and subs?)

The Velodyne SPL-1000 dblue had mention looked within my price range so I was also checking into it. Other then those I have the Klipsch series of Subs to look at but they appear a little pricey. Everyone seems to agree the RSW are much better then the KSW but the RSW sub looks a little pricey by itself for my budget. (but I am unsure of sub prices maybe they are not too pricy for their quality)

In short those are the subs I am considering anyone know which is best for the price or another of greater bang for the buck?

  6. WOW Sound Distributors has some nice prices! they got the Senergy 6 system for $699. And the complete Klipsch Reference SystemII with a RSW12 for $1549. Thanks for the link mOOn. I think I may end up going with the Ref for $1549 if I can talk the wifey into it. Do you think these prices will drop much in the next 6 months? I might have to wait untill we buy a couch for our new house before I get the uber sound Wink.gif

  7. yeah I was kinda thinking the Synergy 6 would be ok to get me started. if I spend $999 on the 2 fronts 2 surrounds, a center, and a sub then all I would need to buy is an amp/reciever. I am thinking of spending around $1000 for the amp/reciever. I do however have a couple doubts about the Synergy 6 system... Do those 2 fronts that come in set compare to Reference series fronts (like the RF-3 II)? alot of folks have been suggesting I buy those. Also mOOn seems to think the RSW 12 kicks some KSW 10 butt. Would that FSW 10 be a weak sub for a 12' by 12' HT room or would it suffice?

PS:again thanks all of you for sharing your Sound-Lore with the a virgin to home theater sound.

  8. Thanks much for all the tips guys I will shop around. Starting to get a feel for what I need to look for. Looks like most of you suggested some nice klipsch for 2 fronts 2 surrounds and center, then pick up a larger sub not made by Klipsch. I will check out all the specific models you guys suggested. But is that basically correct get a nice Klipsch set for fronts surround and center (effects) and get my sub and obviously reciever elsewhere?

  9. ok did a little more research back on the main page... looks like the SF-2s for fronts are different than those offered in that $999 Synergy 6 system. Question is it worth the extra money to get the SF-2s or you think I could get away with the Synergy 6 package deal for my 2 fronts, 2 surround, and sub? Then I would add front and back SC-1s and a Denon AVR3802 to complete the system at a good deal less cost. The closer to 2k I can get the better.

    ~Rocknon~

*has a mad other 1/2 for posting a 3k budget*

  10. Many thanks for the advice Skonopa.

I will look into the "complete Reference Series 3 setup with a Denon AVR3802". As far as the Synergy system goes is the Synergy 6 System (package deal, 4 speakers & sub) the same as the ones you suggested but lacks the SC-1's as a rear and front channel? If so perhaps I could get that Synergy 6 package and add 2 SC-1's and a Denon AVR3802 to make a complete system.

  11. Howdy,

I am wondering what system I could afford for my home theater. I have a room approx 12' by 12' square with a large digital display monitor at one wall. I was wondering what home theater sounds system I could install for around $3000. It will be used for very little music so I am looking for best quality and value in a DVD/movie surround sound.

~Rocknon~ *newbie in need of aid*

  12. I am thinking about getting the Synergy 6 System as the speakers for my home theater. I am very new to all this sound system stuff and was wondering if that is a good value as a DVD/movie home speaker system. Also I was wondering what Amp/reciver I should get to go with the Synergy 6 if I decide on those speakers.

    ~Rocknon~

*thanks any guru's for any aid they can offer*
