  1. I recently purchased a Klipsch Academy center speaker and noticed some buzzing and vibration with certain dialog. I rotated the woofers and toghtened all the screws and it's still there. I have the center crossed over at 80hz. I also noticed when pushing on the speakers I can hear a scratching sound. What can I do? Thanks in advance.
  2. I compared them to my ksf 8.5 (they were side by side when i tested) and the forte sounded like all mids and the ksf sound like no mids, but with more bass. They seemed to compliment each when they were both on but stacked it looks ridiculous. I didn't want to add l pads. Wonder if a recap will balance them out. We've only been in this house for a week and the room sounds very different from our last house.
  3. Got a chance to do some critical listening today. The forte 2 have the midrange I was missing, actually WAY too much. I A/B'ed with another set of klipsch and they made the other speakers sound like they had no modrange. Ran Audyssey and they sound pretty great. Do you think a re-cap would make the speakers sound more balanced? Right now they have too much mids.
  4. Didnt have a chance to look inside when I bought. Why are the washers risky?
  5. Took a peak inside; Washers epoxied to the passive radiators. Dynomat on the horns and drivers. Crossovers look stock.
  6. Will get them off the wall next time wife isn't working from home and test.
  7. I am supposed to check out the forte 2 this weekend. The owner say they have Crites tweeters. I asked if the were any other mods and he didn't know. He hasn't looked. Said previous owner said Crites tweeters. Should I be nervous? He wants $900.
  8. I feel my rp280 lack mids. I listen to alot of classic rock and heavy metal and Geezer and Geddy's bass lines get buried with the rp280. Even Audyssey notices this and boosts the mids, but ide prefer to listen to music without it. My thought is that the forte, being a 3 way will have clearer mids (better instrument seperation?) and the wide mid horn will provide a wider sweet spot. Listening by myself I usually sit in the middle of the couch but when listening with my wife we both sit on the ends of the couch. I heard some cornwalls last week and even up against the front wall, the sweet spot was very wide. You're thoughts?
  9. Im lookong at a set of forte 2 with crites tweeters and a set of forte 1 that are stock. The 2 are $50 more. Thinking I will like the midrange better on the 2. Arethe crites tweeters more laid back than the stock ones? Rp280 can get a little harsh with some material.
  10. I have read that the forte sound better than heresy but need to be further away from the front wall and are pickyer about placement. In a situation where the speaker would need to be closer to the front wall is the heresy a better choice or will the forte always sound better? Will room correction help with this? (X32) I will be buying used. Is there much difference between the first and second generation models? I am upgrading from rp280 and am trying to get a clearer midrange sound for music. I have 2 pb1000 for subs. I dont care as much how they sound for tv and movies. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Tom
  11. Just a follow up. After listening to the 8.5s for a couple months and buying a second pb1000 I realized it was the harshness that was bothering me. For a second I thought I wanted more treble and I probably did but without the harshness. I bought a pair of polk s60 and they are much more laid back. Too much imo although I like the sound of the tweeter.. The 8.5 have more bass and mids but the s60 are clearer listening to Geddy and Geezers bass lines. So basically I want more full and detailed sound than the 8.5 without the harsh. Do you think the rp280 will have less harsh? The polk are probably ok for easy listening, but they are not attention grabbing or impactfull. Thanks in advance for any opinions.
  12. I meant ksf. Sorry about that. I am wanting more midrange, clarity and could even tolerate more treble. I heard the newer speakers are more brighter sounding. Phantom center while listening in stereo sounds great but sweet spot is very narrow. Sound stage is less than great. The ksf I have also have a buzz/vibration in the 200hz range when turned up. I found this by playing frequncy sweeps through them.. I tightened the drivers and crossover but it only helped a little. I got the ksf for free but see the rp 280 for sale for $400 each at Crutchfield. They were out of stock for a while but they just got more. I assume they are being replaced by the rp 8000?
  13. Will this be a significant upgrade? I like the sound of the ksf's but would like a fuller sound with more mids. Use is; 80% tv 5% movies 15% music The ksf are great for tv and movies but I would like more fullness (mids?)for music and music is my main priority. I listen to classic rock and heavy metal. I have a Denon x3300 and svs pb1000. Other speakers are rp400 and r41. I sometimes listen the the speakers on large with the crossover set at 40hz for the sub. Mostly the speakers are set to small and crossed over at 80hz. Depends on what sounds best with what I'm listening to. I listen loud. Thanks in advance. Tom
