The only solution to make these sound really good out of the box, is optimizing the environment to the fullest. And these are needy in that regard to say the least. Per my experience.

Speaker placement preferably at least 0,5m away from hard walls to remove the excessive boominess from the backfiring ports. Horn tweeters just at ear level so highs start to sparkle again. Perfect 30° stereo triangle to the listening position. Tune EQ only a bit to your liking per content. Then, yes they can sound absolutely fantastic. Huge and thearetical even. But the second you move from the perfect listening position, the sound starts to fade away quickly. Turns to mudd.

You cant just toss these somewhere near the wall or in narrow media unit, because quickly they start to sound more terrible than most speakers would, which are generally far more forgiving with positioning. It's a missed opportunity, because who buys this swiss-toolknife -type of active bookshelf speaker with HDMI-ARC which in reality needs so much empty space around and perfect placing and tuning. This is not really the "easy audio fix" for everyday folk looking for better audio. It's way too demanding with it's placing and environment requirements. I would suggest that even a cheap decent soundbar is a better bet for most, just because it's that much more convenient.

Then if you try to correct suboptimal room placing with this toy of equalizer update or inbuilt bass/position settings. You might fix the boomy/muddy issue, but in the process make them sound still somewhat bad.

With PC it's easier to fix with tools like Equalizer APO. Well, I have these hooked up to my PC now instead of living room and they can be nice like this, but it really required a bit of room planning and changes to make them really live up to their potential.

I'm also using The Fives with a PC and APO at arround 2m of me and 2m separated between them, 30º angle, -6dB in speaker placement. But I'm lokking for an APO EQ (with the new app software, all I found are for old app software) can you help me?

  2. I read in internet there are too many people with this white noise, they said the only way to reduce it is lowering the master volume because it is a problem that all The Fives have cause their amplification, it is true? Your Fives have 0 white noise? I tried other cables and outlets and the white sound is always there, I can reduce it lowering the master volume but never I can eliminate it.

There shouldn't be white noise. Try to track down the cause and eliminate it, rather than filter it out.

Check volume settings of your sources.

The only form to reduce it, is lowering the volume in the remote control. By the way, there is a little white sound that I can't never eliminate  I have these speakers connected to my TV via eARC-HDMI and my TV is connected to the PC via HDMI 2.1

  4. Hello, I see The Fives emit a white noise like an interference typical of 50$ speakers, there is any way to eliminate it? I'm using it with eARC-HDMI connection. A part of this, I feel their sound a bit muffled and closed, There are any equalitzation to improve it, at this moment I set bass: -1, mid: +3, trebble: +2 and it improved a bit the sound but I think they can offer more.

  5. As I said in the other post, I have these versions:

    App version :1.11.0(1207)

    FW version: 1.6.9

    HW version: 02.00.01

This is the only help that I can give you, try to update to last version all the parts. I don't know if you can update the HW version, maybe I have newer factory build. Can any dev response that? If the bug is because the HW version and you can't update it, the bug will never be fixed :(

Is the REL TZero too far out of your reach?

ELAC cost a bit less but I wonder how quick it is, meaning with REL you could get possibly better integration of bass with the Fives.

Sure the REL is better than the ELAC, but I'm happy with the performance of this subwoofer. Maybe I can get better results tweaking the analog settings in the sub but I don't find anything about this sub with these speakers.

Hello and thanks for the helpful information. I think you are very lucky. May I ask where you bought it? I have hw version 01.00.01 and the EQ is not saved. Even more, since the update to fw version 1.6.9, the volumeknob is unusable and I have random popping noises in the speakers. That there is a new hardware version now completely takes away my hope that the problems will be fixed. What a bummer.

I bought it in Spain and never had any problem, only researching a good EQ to get the best audio quality, any tip? Thanks!

They can't even get the EQ settings to stay in memory when you turn off the speakers. And you want a semi-professional EQ. 😂Klipsch is a joke...

My 5s save the EQ settings after restart they never failed with it, my app version is 1.11.0(1207), fw version 1.6.9 and hw version 02.00.01 what is yours?

    hello guys,

i just notice an improvment in Mids and Highs, if i connect my fives with toshlink/optical to my TV. Before i only used the HMDI Arc input. Can somenbody else try it out? If change back to HDMI, the Mids and Highs are muffled and not as clear as the optical input. Its just like before the Firmware Upgrade, when everything was fine. Maybe the Update just bugged out the HDMI input??

I tried it and I don't know if it is placebo or not but I now I feel more difference between the mid and the highs, like with 2 different planes, wtf? Is Klipsch informed of that? I bought the Fives for their eARC connection...

EDIT: After playing BF2042, listen music and watch some movie scenes, I can confirm there are sound differences between HDMI Arc and toshlink, wirh toshlink the sound is more "open", has more 3D effects and has more "air" because the mids and highs are highly improved. With HDMI Arc the sound is more plane, less 3D effects, feels a very muffed and without personality.

  10. I have not the "reset settings" bug, I have the 1.6.9 firmware version. But I feel this speakers have a very muffed, I have these app EQ settings: (Bass 0, Mid, +3, Treble +2) and it improved a bit the sound but insuficient, any tip please? I want a more envolving and impressive sound typical of a 900€ pair speakers.

One stupid question, please do not feel offended, have you tried the adjustments described in the speaker manual (dynamic bass eq)?

And a long shot - may be you have more detailed EQ controls on TV set, you could try that.

I have dinamic bass off (with on the bass is abussive) and my TV has the EQ controls off because I'm using it as a PC monitor with game mode on and automatically disables the EQ.

In what environment are you using the Fives, what room and position of the speakers in the room?

I notices similar sound signature in my RF42IIs. Experimenting with speaker positioning can help with too much bass and muddy highs.

Then you can play with EQ.

I use it with TV (Samsung QN95A)

separated from each other 1.5m and focusing to my head in V position at a 1.9m in an insolated room.

  13. I Googled a lot for these speakers and many people think the same as me, The Fives need a lot of equalitzation to get a decent sound, out of box they are a total dissaster because the bass is too much present and the trebble is not clear as spected.

I think for a +/-900€ speakers they should have a better scene in all the fields, specialy in music.

I hope Klipsch will release an important update for the app and give us a semi-professional EQ to get better sound for any source connected to The Fives and they will eliminate the white noise.

  14. Maybe, I though Klipsch can give me better sound scene because the Edifier SB360D are more little and give better sound, impressive 3D positioning, amazing highs and they have not the white noise.

I improved a lot with the equalizer of my music program, but I want an equalizer for all the sound sources, for gaming, for movies, etc. is anyone using some program for that? the Klipsch EQ app only has 3 bars and this is insuffient to get a real HiFi sound. These speakers have a poor representation of the mids and trebble, and a exaggerated bass.

  15.

    Hello,

I bougth The Fives for my Samsung QN95A, previous I had connected a 2.1 system (Edifier sb360d) and finally I got better sound with the Edifier config from far, with the Fives I have less high, similar med and worse bass, the sound is not rich as the Edifier and it costs the half price.

Another negative point is when I'm not reproducing music or sound, the Fives emit a little interference sound like 50€ speaker system, why?? This is the quality of this product?

A part from this, the bass, is worse than sb360d because is abussive and cover the high and med, I tried the dinamic EQ but the result is similiar.

To solve of all this I tried to update the speakers and connect it to the app, but I can't... When I did the update process by an USB, the app says the speakers are up to date but when I connect to the app it says I can't connect because the speakers are not up to date, what???

Maybe I consider to return the Fives and continue using the Edifier, less problems and better sound, the only negative point is they have not eARC-HDMI connection...

EDIT: I have finally been able to update the Fives and now this is totally different, after setting the equalizer in the app (Bass: -2, Med: +4, High: +5) the sound is rich and inversive, tomorrow I will receive a subwoofer (Elac Debut S10.2) to improve bass quality. now the only problem I see is white noise when there is no sound, is it normal?

EDIT 2: I read this article (Review) and I don't know what is the "bass cut" mode and didn't seen it in my app, anyone knows what it is?
