hmmm i don't have very technical answers for you... but here goes. anyone, feel free to correct me
how does the movement of the cone make sound?
the movement causes fluctuations in the surrounding air... and that in turn, is what "makes" the sound you hear. as far i understand it, it's sorta like dropping a pebble into water, the surrounding airwaves all push against each other and the fluctuations travel through the air, to your ears and brain, which processes what you hear.
how does a tweeter make sound compared to a subwoofer?
i'm really not quite sure what you mean by this... but tweeters are generally smaller, and are designed to play the higher frequencies within the audible range (20hz - 20000hz). whereas subwoofers play the lower (bass) frequencies, and the mid's, play everything in between. no single driver can accurately reproduce all sounds in the audible spectrum, which is why each tweeter, mid, and sub are designed to play their respective frequencies as accurately as possible.
what does ohms have to do with speakers i don't quite understand that
ohms refers to the electrical resistance that the speaker has..... i'm not too sure about home audio and such, but for car audio, subwoofers and speakers have a certain resistance in the power that they draw from the amplifier. the higher the ohm rating, the less power you will get out of the amp. of course, there is a limit, because amps are designed to run at certain loads, and you try to run a 1ohm load on an amp designed to only handle 8ohms, it probably won't run that long, and eventually fry out. the way the speaker is wired, determines the resistance (ohms) that it draws from the amp.
what is hertz and frequency is it just pitch or something?
hertz is the SI (standard) unit for frequency. frequency refers to the number of cycles of the wave per a second. the unit hertz = cycles/second. which is just the inverse of the period, which is seconds/cycle.
what does the sound pressure level mean?
SPL is basically a reference to how loud a particular audio system can get. usually rated in dB (decibels), the actual formula for measuring SL is a logarithmic function, meaning that an increase of 10dB from say 100 to 110 is a doubling in sound intensity (not a 10% increase).

i'd say alot of them can..... i mean a good set of component speakers can cost as much as your entire system! and that's w/o a amp/sub to go with it.... hehe

i just "downgraded" from the v.2-400 to the 2.1.... and am pleasantly suprised to find out that this new sub hits even harder than the old one. the only thing is, it might not play as low, but i'll tell you one thing.... it rattles my neighbor's overhead lights! not to mention that the midrange is greatly improved.... whoo hoo!!

ok... maybe i'm being a tad picky, but shouldn't these 4.2's come with a longer preamp chord? i mean, it's being marketed as the "ultimate" four speaker surround.... without the extension, you're not going to be able to get much of a surround..

just wondering how you guys are getting around the short preamp cable..... as i understand it, you place one set in the front, and one in the rear, but then that means the preamp cable must be able to reach the computer! and if it's as short as the ones on my v.2-400.... well that means you can't really put it very far back at all. anyway around this?

i dunno, personally i have 4 in mine, and it tends to be more of a pain than a plus. yes, it's cool having the 4 channel surround and all, but you really have to think about your limited amount of space to begin with. i'm considering selling mine and "downgrading" to the 2.1's for the next couple years... until i can get outta this closet and get a reall room hehe

damn that price is good..... i'm soooo tempted to upgrade, opionions?? i have the old v.2-400.... which sound pretty good, but goddamn that price is good! anyone actually have the 4.2 can comment on the two separate woofers that only have one driver each. bah, klipsch should've made them both dual drivers hehehe.

if i rotate the speaker wire input on the back of the speaker, the volume on the speaker seems to fluctuate.... and then the balance gets all screwed up. this normal?

impala: i have the same feelings about crutchfield.com ... they are wayyy overpriced, but it's great to do research on their site because they let you do all sort of comparison things.... anyway, thanks for the help.

you have kappa's 6x9 right? how do you like them? i'm going to pass on the sub... i'm not a huge fan of bass, i like it, but in the right amounts. my brother has a single w6 hooked up to 380w RF and it gives me a headache... heh.
