The housewill have 4 zones, and the speakers connected to Sonos Connect Amps. Canyou please give a recommendation on ceiling speakers that might be a goodfit? The house will have 10 ft ceilings. There would be to 6.5" speakers in the Kitchen, 4 in the Den, 2 inthe Dining Room, and 2 in the Living room. Thank you very much for yourassistance. Attached is a PDF of the first floor plan. Any input on speaker location would be great. Thanks! first floor.pdf Edited November 20, 2014 by cclaser
mustang guy
Welcome to the forum! I don't work at Klipsch, but I'd be installing the 8" speakers personally. All of them would be CDT-5800-C II's. Here are the specs: FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 49Hz-23KHz ± 3dB SENSITIVITY: 95dB @ 2.83V / 1m POWER HANDLING: 50W RMS / 200W Peak NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: 8 ohms compatible RECOMMENDED AMPLIFIER POWER: 100 W LOW FREQUENCY DRIVER: 8" (20.32cm) pivoting Cerametallic cone woofer CROSSOVER FREQUENCY: 2230Hz ENCLOSURE MATERIAL/TYPE: ABS/Infinite baffle, front flush with wall CUTOUT DIMENSIONS: 9.8" (24.89cm) MOUNTING DEPTH: 5.4" (13.72cm) DIAMETER: 11" (27.94cm) WEIGHT: 7.4 lbs. (3.36kg) FINISH: White paintable frame and grill FIRE RATED ENCLOSURE: ME-800-C (sold separately) INSTALLATION KIT: IK-800-C (sold separately) WIRE GAUAGE ACCOMMODATED: 12 ga BUILT FROM: 2012 You amp is 55 watts per speaker. If you are 6' tall, and you stand directly under one of these and play a pink noise signal at full blast, you will be hearing about 111db. 49Hz is pretty good response for the low frequency of a ceiling speaker. There is a more expensive option. It's actually twice as much. It can go to 45Hz, and can handle twice the power your amps can spit out. It would not be as loud, being capable of 109db, but that's not too shabby. That would be the KS-7502-THX's. Here are the specs: FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 45Hz-20kHz +/-3dB SENSITIVITY: 93dB @ 2.83V / 1m POWER HANDLING: 100W continuous / 400W peak NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: 8 ohms compatible RECOMMENDED AMPLIFIER POWER: 150W HIGH FREQUENCY DRIVERS: Dual 1" (2.5cm) Titanium diaphragm compression drivers mated to WDST Tractrix Horn Array LOW FREQUENCY DRIVERS: Dual 5.25" (13.3cm) high-output, Cerametallic cone woofers ENCLOSURE MATERIAL: MDF & Aluminum motorboard / ABS shell ENCLOSURE TYPE: Bass-reflex via front-firing port DIMENSIONS: 15.25" (38.7cm) dia CUTOUT DIMENSIONS: 13.25" (33.7cm) dia MOUNTING DEPTH: 9.5" (24.1cm) WEIGHT: 11lbs (5kg) FINISHES: White paintable frame and grille INSTALLATION KIT: IK-502-C (sold seperately) BUILT FROM: 2008 FYI, these things are huge. cclaser
Thank you for the input Mustang. I have been looking at the 6.5" version of the CDT speaker. I think it is CDT-5650 CII. The music will be for background. I am not sure if we want to put in 8 inch speakers. If anyone has placement input, that would be great. mustang guy
Around me, there no such thing as too big of a speaker. I'm sure you will eventually get some input on placement, but here are things I would be considering. Reflections due to being too close to a wall. Coverage of likely listening positions. Less coverage in a place or two. Hmmmm..... That's about all I can come up with... Planning is the fun part!
