  1. Finally got my speakers switched out after a long process. After configuring my system again, decided to test out the decoder. Put in a DVD with DTS and switched on digital output and made all of the necessary changes to output in DTS. Still had to crank my control pod up to 70 to get powerful sound. In comparing the two (digitally decoded DTS vs. analog 5.1) I have to say analog 5.1 sounded better and fuller. The DTS version sounded flat and sourcey (could tell dialog coming from center channel, left, or right channel). Where in analog 5.1, everything seemed to blend better. Not sure if my settings need adjusting, or maybe my player, but hopefully there is some sort of adjustment I can make. Any suggestions? Also curious if anyone knows of any Dolby Digital, DTS, or THX type configuration DVD's or files you can burn to DVD's. Curious if I can run one of these to max out my settings for optimal sound. Thanks, Dynatnt1
  2. I just recieved an email from Promedia tech support. I was asking him about the volume level coming out of my Digital Decoder being weak. I told him that I need to crank my control tower up to around 70 in order to get moderate sound when watching DVD's. I also have my Decoder set to max (0db). He responded that 70 is the half way point when using the digital decoder. How can that be when it only goes to 80? Also when I do have it up that loud, during quiet parts of the movie, the speakers are hissing because the volume is so high. So I was just curious as to what everyone's volume settings are when watching DVD's through the decoder? For moderate sound, not blow you across the room sound either. Thanks, Dynatnt1
  3. I have completed the installation of my digital dream system including a new DVD-Rom and Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card. I noticed that when I watch DVD's through Power DVD or WinDVD and use the digital output, the sound level is very low. I thought that I had all the settings correct, but can't seem to figure it out. I need to crank the volume control up to almost 70 in order to get any decent sound. Don't think this is right. I also made sure the volume on my decoder box is set to 0db also. Is there anything I am missing or need to fix/change? Are there any hidden settings/options in the DVD Player program or sound card setup that I need to adjust. I mainly just click on Digital Out under my sound card options. And then select the SPDIF option under Power DVD. Digital Decoder gets a Dolby/DTS signal, but very weak. Thanks for any advice. 4. Does anybody have an opinion on Gold Series cables versus regular cables. I have heard that gold resists corrosion and interference better. Is this true? Is the extra money worth the performance benefits? Thanks Dynatnt1
  5. Andy W are these the cables/adapters you're talking about? http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&category_name=&product_id=42-2551 http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&category_name=&product_id=42-2550 Basically they are the same cable but in different lengths. I believe this is what you are describing to connect to the digital out of the Audigy 2 and the white RCA connector to the digital coaxial in of the DD 5.1. Hope these are them, cause I wanna go pick them up from Radio Shack. Thanks
  6. I just recieved my Digital Dream 5.1 system and it looks awesome. As I was browsing through the manuals I got kinda confused on the available setups. I have a couple of questions that I wanted to throw out to see if they can be answered. My current setup is: P4 3.0 GHz A-Bit Motherboard IC-7 Audigy 2 Platinum TDK DVD+RW Digital Dream 5.1 #1- I was under the assumption that the digital decoder just fit in the loop between the computer/soundcard and the ProMedia 5.1's. Basically meaning you would come out of the soundcard via the 3 cables for FR/FL, RR/RL, and Sub/Center and into the digital decoder and then out of the digital decoder into the Promedia 5.1's. By doing this I could watch DVD's on my computer and have it decoded into DTS or whatever digital signal is available. Is there some setup where I can do this? #2- Is the digital decoder only for hooking up an external DVD Players,Game Console, or TV/VCR/Tape Player? As I don't have a DVD Player or any of these next to my computer, I would see no use to hook them up via the digital decoder to run off my computer speakers. #3- Are there any guides to the ultimate connection setup for a computer with a DVD-Rom, Audigy 2 Platinum Sound Card, and the Digital Dream 5.1 system? Thanks in advance for answering my questions. Dynatnt1
  7. I am in the market for a new Klipsch Promedia 5.1 system. I think I am completely hooked on the Digital Dream system, but had one question before I commited. I was considering purchasing the Promedia 5.1 system from Bestbuy.com and then buying the DD 5.1 decoder from Klipsch.com. By doing this I can save a little money but also delay my payments by using my bestbuy card. I just wanted to make sure that I will be getting the same products serperately that I would get as a boxed set in the Digital Dream System. If they are differnt, then I will buy them together. Thanks for the advice. Toby Tucker
