First of all, i would like to declare that i am an audio idiot(probably in many other areas too).
Ok, i did something really stupid with my klipsch speakers by powering it with a 240V power supply when its only 120V. Initially i thought it was just the fuse that went, but after replacing the fuse and powering it up with a variety of transformers, it still doesn't work So, i guess something else decided to fry during the power surge. The guy selling me the transformer told me that its probably a small problem somewhere and it can be fixed easily. So i have to find that out by bringing it to a speaker repair shop.
Thats one issue, the other would be the total price i am paying for everything. I did a quick calculation and realised that if i pay for the repairs and purchase a transformer, i probably just need to top up a little bit more to buy a brand new set of 4.1s. Is it true that i need at least a 500w transformer in order for the speakers to perform at its optimum standards? Its the transformer that costs a bomb
So, is it possible that i can simply buy a klipsch standalone promedia subwoofer(thats if klipsch is willing to sell me) that is compatible with the australian electrical standards and use it with my existing satellite speakers? Or will it be the same if i just bought a promedia 2.1 set here and used the subwoofer with my 4.1 satellites? Will the sound quality be the same still?
I really hope someone out there can advise me on this. I am really in need of help
