  1. Lo and behold, the DAY following my post, I got a call from my closest dealer that just got them in stock! Whaaahoooo I won't be picking them up until next week (closest dealer to me is an hour drive), and all I am getting at this time is the set of 5. Now all I have to do is find a dealer that will part the sets out, because I will need two additional satellites for the rear...If worse comes to worse, I will pick up two sats from klipsch's parts department... Anyway, I do have one question for Quintet owners. Does the center channel come with any kind of mounting hardware? I have a "cutout" above my fireplace that was designed to accomodate the TV. I have my TV in place, which fits pretty snug (only a half inch gap or less on the sides of the TV in the cubby), but I have a 6" tall gap above the TV which would be PERFECT to mount the center channel. I know the sats come with a mount, but not sure about the center. Thanks! -Alan
  2. LOL...its sometimes hard to convey exactly what point your at in the scheme of things on a forum... Consider myself just starting out, with entry level equipment. This will actually be my second HT system ever. My first was a disaster. It never sounded right to me. My receiver at the time was a $300 Technics I bought at Sears back in the early nineties (since sold). My speakers were (don't laugh) a mixture of Kenwoods that look like they came out of the 1970's (very large), advent, JBL, and infinty bookshelf for the rears. VERY POOR DECISION on my part. They did not go well together AT ALL. So now, I have deiced, whatever I get, I want to match ALL speakers, except the center channel of course. The receiver I am going with now is the Sony STRDA-1000ES. Not a monumental leap, but should be a nice improvement over what I had... baby steps...LOL -Alan
  3. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I was starting to get distraught... Because of the way I want to place the speakers, I need a small lightweight set, and not being able to find the Quintets, was about to (reluctantly) start considering the Bose. I have auditioned some other speakers at Circuit City and Best buy, and just haven't been impressed with anything they have... When I purchased the 4.1 Promedias, it was quite a suprise. This was my introduction to Klipsch. Needless to say, I am VERY impressed with their products. But if worse comes to worse, I may go for that new reference series setup. I will just have to buy them a pair at a time if I go that route. Those just seem "too nice" for the receiver I have chosen to purchase. -Alan
  4. I was wondering how the new A/V receivers in general handle two-channel source audio? Specifically, can you make an A/V receiver take two-channel audio and have it play out of all audio channels, including the surrounds? The reason I was asking, is I am in the process of setting up my HT. Being on a tight budget, and for asthetic, and size factors, I have decided to go with the Quintet speakers (or somthing of similar size). I was told on the forums that for my size room (fairly large) that the Quintets would have a hard time filling the room. The thing is, I will be purchasing a 7.1 A/V Receiver, and figured at 7 independant channels, I wouldn't have a problem at all (as opposed to only 5 independant Quintets). 99% of the time, this setup will be used for watching DVDs. However, its the other 1% of the time, when I am listening to cassette, phono, or CDs that I am wondering about. I still believe even for my large room, 7 Quintets will do a nice job, but during stereo audio sources, if only two speakers are active, THEN I may have a problem... So, how do these new receivers handle 2 channel audio? Specifially, I will be purchasing the Sony STDA-1000ES.. Thanks! -Alan
  5. THANK YOU!!!! I will give them a try. Actually, re-reading my origional post (the typing errors are horrible), I stand corrected. I will need SIX satellites (not 7), a center channel and a sub... Thanks again, -Alan
  6. Hi all, I posted here a couple months ago. I had purchased a new home, and am in the process of building my HT setup. First off, I don't have good luck when it comes to electronics. Everything I buy usually breaks shortly after thw warranty expires...No joke! Secondly, I am not rich at all...actually quite poor I guess LOL. Anyway, I am looking for something SMALL. After purchasing a set of pro-media 4.1s I was so impressed with the sound quality, I was dead set on the Quintet IIs in silver. Those 4.1s sounded better than my home stereo system at the time. Since I have had such bad luck with electronics, and since getting the new house, I got the itch for all new stuff, so I sold virtually everying I had. Anyway, all my new components are silver, so I wanted something to match. Here is the problem...I can't find ANYONE who is both an authorized Klipsch dealer that stocks the Quintets in silver. I have tried for a couple months now. Klipsch gave me the phone number for my regional rep, but he is always GONE. Can't reach him. I have tried dealers within a 500 minle radius of here. I have already ran the wiring, and have wall plates strategically placed around the living room to accomodate the new speakers. They are located just below the ceiling. This is why I am wanting small. So...since I can't find the Quintet IIs....whats a good alternative that is in about the same price range and are silver and sound decent? The receiver that they are going to be hooked to are a Sony STR-DA1000. So, I will need 7 sats, plus a sub (I know the sub probably won't be in silver...no biggie, but would like the sats to be silver at least). Just wondering...those new reference series...Just how expensive are those??? They look as if they are outta my price range, LOL! Thanks, -Alan Oh, yeah...If you have a suggestion, please AUTHORIZED dealers only...I value the warranties, even if I have to pay full price...I have THAT bad of luck when it comes to electronics...I need the warranty coverage!
  7. Thanks for the advice! I can't believe I missed that on the frequency response of the 10" vs. the 12" sub...I was mainly looking at power... My living room size is about 17x20...With that in mind, should the 10" do the job? I will take a peek at the system 6s, but the reason I started really looking at the Quintet IIs was their size (same reason I considered the bose), and stylish appearance. I was actually really wanting to get the Quintet IIs in silver, to match the rest of the electronics I have been buying lately. I have not had a chance to actually listen to any Klipsch speakers, other than my pro-medias on my PC, but if the Quintets sound half as nice as my Pro Medias, I will be MORE than pleased...My Pro Medias have better sound quality than my old home entertainment system...Hard to belive, but true. Granted, my old entertainment system could put out more volume, but I am not so much into the "loud" thing anymore. Duties for this new speaker set is primarily DVD movie watching in the living room, with occasional music. I am not rich, and don't have an elaborate setup, but just trying to put together something "cozy". I don't own a big TV-its not even HD or Widescreen. Bought a new house a couple months ago, and we decieded to take advantage of its design-A "hole" cuttout above the corner fireplace in the living room. It was large enouogh to accomodate up to a 36" TV, so I bought a Sony Wega-Nothing fancy, its just a plain jane analoge TV. Doesn't even have PIP. But I love the picture! I was just looking for something that would compliment the Wega, in both style, and performance... Thanks again! -Alan
  8. Hello All, Am new here. I recently purchased a set of Pro Media 4.1s (display item-I know they don't make these anymore...was for my PC with an origional Sound Blaster Live)... Anyway, I am soooo impressed with the sound quality, that I am giving serious consideration to a set of Klipsch Quintet IIs for my home theater...I have browsed the forums, and I know this is blasphemy, but was actually considering the bose system... Basically I want some small entry level speakers, and am pretty set on the Quintets... So here is the question: Looking at the specs, it would seem that the 12" sub (forgot Klipsch's model number) would be a better match for the Quintets...Is that an accurate assumption, or is the 10" sufficient? Also, is is possible to purchase Quintet speakers individually? Reason I am asking, is I just sold all my low end gear on ebay, and have to start over, and more than likely will get a 6.1 Receiver, but the Quintets are a 5.1 set... Thanks for any advice and replys... -Alan
