  1. Humm. What to say. How about to each his/her own. I'm not a pro nor do I profess to be, although I've been at it since before 8-track was the ultimate live forever format. While not poor, I don't have unlimited funds to keep buying/cycling hardware until I discover that which sounds best in my room. So, I read, listen to advice, listen to hardware, then buy, knowing the acoustics will be different in my own home. Well, I purchased a Denon 4802R and Klipsch RF35 system w/RW12 to go with my other older equipment. I can say that we are VERY happy with the Denon/Klipsch selection. In the end, that IS all that matters. My only complaint with the 4802R is that it can't take an s-video input and covert it to component, etc. (input lines can only output to same type; i.e. RGB to RGB, S-Video/S-Video, Composite/Composite, Component/Component). Makes for extra wires. Be at peace. I am. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
  2. I bought the Denon 4802R with Ultra THX2 ($1500). Why? Well, I didn't want to buy less than current technology. I can choose not to use it if I have it, but I can't choose to use it if I don't have it.
  3. I knew the Act wouldn't allow blocking, but it sounded like they were trying to get around it by de-res'ing the latest HDTV HDMI signal down to something akin to SVHS or standard NTSC. It just sounded as if we may not get the full deal without spending more $$$. If you have the reference to the WSJ article, I'd like to go read it. I'm really concerned about buying something this expensive without knowing for sure. Thanks for the info.
  4. Does anyone have any opinions on the new HDMI standard that will allow plug and play to cable w/o a set top box? The technology was shown early this year, and the standard finalized (formally approved) late summer. Early projections @ www.hdmi.org had HDMI units hitting the stores before the end of 2003. The last thing I read was 2nd half of 2004 for shipments. HDMI is supposed to be able to carry something like 8 channel digital audio as well as the HDTV picture, have a smaller connector than DVI, include HDCP, more bandwidth than can be currently used, etc.. But there also appears to be a darker side the film industry isn't talking about. One of complaints is that once HDMI is up, providers will shift content to HDMI and any non-HDMI devices will get a de-res'd image. Yeah, for real. So your current HDTV won't be able to show to all it's current ability. The author of the article called HDMI one step forward and two or three steps backward. There are some good HDTV deals out this year, and it makes me wonder if the companies are dumping their inventory before the switch and they become white elephants. I've only found a few articles. Anyone else read anything. I'd hate to sink money into a HDTV, only to find out it gets de-res'd in a year. 5. That looks pretty much like what I was looking for, but mine needs to be longer and mountable on a 45 degree angle. Because of the vaulted ceiling, I need about 3.5' of pole to get down to 7' above the floor and clear the drapes. I haven't found anything commercially available in that length, so I guess I'm going to have to fab it. I am concerned about putting the RS-35 (~9.5 lbs) on a pole that long and how it my react to sound, e.g. vibrate, sway, sound distortion, etc.. Fortunately, my wife has learned over the past 17 yrs to just give up when I want to do something like this. My other option is to take a wall mount and put a 45 angle on the arm to bring it out and around the drape a foot, kind of like a wall mount TV bracket with a bent extension. If I place the mount next to the drape (kind of a darkish formal looking plad), that should give me something a little less visual than a 3.5' pole, and perhaps a little more stable. Thanks for your thoughts
  6. Is there any merit to these power filters that companies like Monster sell, e.g. HTS-5000? It all sounds good, but does it work, and is it worth it?
  7. I recreated my 20x20 living room in the ".jpg" file. Tomorrow I pick up my RF-35 system and Denon 4802R. The TV is on the north wall centered to the wall section (not incl. opening NW). I'd planned on the RF35s on either side of TV "X" feet apart, the RC35 on top of the TV, and the RS12 in the NE corner. The 11.5' of french doors and surrounding drapes centered on the east wall make locating the RS35 difficult. The E/W walls are 9' high, door treatments go up 8', and there's only 4'3" between door drapes and south wall. The RS35 on the opposite wall could go in a bookshelf. The ceiling is vaulted, topping out at 16'(peak running N/S with 12:12 pitch) and 4' flat spot at top. Will the builtin bookself have an adverse effect the sound of that speaker? If I place the east wall speaker between the drapes (drapes stick out 10") and south wall, will that be a problem? Klipsch recommends speakers be 5-7 off floor. How important is that? Can I place them at 9' (above drapes and bookshelf)? Could I place them on the 45 angle of the vaulted ceiling facing toward seating area? Would I be just as well of putting the speakers on 4' stands (tallest I found locally) instead of mounting in potentially poor locations on walls? Eventually, I'd like to complete the system to 7.1, since the 4802R is Ultra THX-2 7.1 complient. That would mean rear speakers, recommendations given existing/proposed setup? BTW, this is a first floor with carpet on concrete slab.
  8. Picking up tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! pair RF-35s, pair RS-35s, RC-35, and RW-12. Total system price $2000 plus tax from an authorized Klipsch dealer. UPDATE: Order was to have shipped a week and a half ago, and were to be here last Friday. Then last Friday I was told they'd be here today. Now Klipsch has just confirmed shipping the order yesterday and maybe they'll be here this Friday. I REALLY HATE BEING TOLD THINGS ARE IN STOCK AND ENDING UP WITH A BACKORDER!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. So, what's different about a speaker operating as part of a THX system? Does it mean I'd hear something different with my new RF-35 system than I would with "THX speakers"? Does this mean there would be a REAL difference between speakers that are non-THX, THX, and THX Ultra2?
  10. I've just purchased a RF-35 system (RF-35, RC-35, RS-35, RW-12) for music and home theater (actually 20x20 living room) that should be here in another day or two. The speakers are rated at 125W (I think with 500W peak). The A/V receiver I'm looking at is the Denon 4802R, which is 125W RMS/channel. I like the Denon for a few reasons, like quality, sound, and I really wanted a system that was THX Ultra2 complient. The local Denon dealer will has a $1500 price on the unit (~$500 below MSRP). I know I don't want a system that is too low in power to drive the speakers (or too high power), but at 125W rating each (speakers & A/V receiver), am I too close? What is the recommendation, as relates to receiver power and speaker power handling? Does anyone have a true 6.1/7.1 system (i.e. not matix encoded 5.1), and what would be the appropriate rear speaker(s) to use with the RF-35 system above for 6.1/7.1 operation?
