  1. Kevin is low on these tubes...the closest match he has is too far off in bias. I'd keep them but I'm hoping somone has a need for three, I don't.

I wish I could keep them or find a match for these, I think these are all matched to a bias of around 48.

This a good deal folks. KT90/99 are way stronger, and better sounding (IMO) than KT88. Run these in triode for a tasty treat.

Why are you selling these anyway? Upscale should be able to sell you one with similar matched value as the broken one. Doesn't the Quicksilver have bias/balance adjustment? If so, it really shouldn't make any difference to replace one with only 200 hours on them.

  2. Got some static on the right RF-7 tweeter, in addition to the tube hiss that is usually present there and on the left.

Here' what I have done so far:

Switched the power tubes between amps > static remains.

Replaced with a new 12AX7 on offending channel > static remains.

Switched RCA cables outputs at preamp > static moved to opposite channel.

Switched RCA cable outputs to Main Out 2 (in same L/R config)> Static remains on opposite channel.

STATIC IS PRESENT WITH PREAMP IN ALL MODES: CD/TUNER/PHONO ETC.

It seems like the preamp is to blame, but I don't know this stuff well enough. Is there one tube (1 of the 3 6922s) that would be in use for all the modes?

    thanks

  3. Thanks for all the good information & ideas all.

And yeah, I've got "thingamabobs", so this isn't right, right? [:D]

I'll discuss much of what was mentioned here with the electrician; he was out here once to fix an outlet (it was wired incorrectly) on this line, the 15A for this room; he's a pretty knowledgeable guy. We talked about some audio stuff when he saw the stereo.

    cheers,

  4. This problem recently started and I have been here two years.

The Brickwall is a pretty wel designed piece of equipment that is supposed to protect from some pretty fast transients.

I need to have my wife trip the AC on while I watch the voltmeter on the Panamax to see if this is a surge or drop.

  5. I am getting a power spike on my stereo when the AC kicks on.

The circuit for the stereo is a 15A line and all my stuff is pulling about 5amps. Everything is behind a Panamax 5510 which is plugged into a Brickwall Surge protector which goes to wall outlet.

I don't understand why this spike is making it "into" my system.

Archiving vinyl & I'm seeing a spike on the VU meters and when the speakers are on I hear a popping and pulse.

I am worried about my tube amps and other gear & planning on calling the electrician.

The Panamax has been good about completely shutting down when "unsafe" voltage conditions occur. So maybe this is a drop in voltage when the AC kicks in? Thus forcing the Panamax into a momentary lapse?

  7. I am confused as to what this is

    http://www.zaolla.com/zaolla_product_audio_interconnects1.html

All comments aside regarding Zaolla PR; I'm concerned with the cable construction (not if it was designed with low noise in mind).

What is this cable accoding to both the diagram (linked abive) and this comment from them:

"Our analog audio cables have oxygen-free copper braided shields. These are terminated to ground and conduct no signal.

Analog audio interconnects benefit from having some copper in the signal path, so the solid-silver center conductor is surrounded by 37AWG Ohno continuous-cast copper ancillary conductors. We believe that this produces the best balance between the sparkling highs of silver and the powerful mids of copper.

Zaolla Silverline digital audio cables, video cables, and speaker cables contain only silver, no copper, in the signal chain."

I was under the impression that the copper shield here carries the signal as well as the silver core. Granted I have a sub-rudimentary understanding of cable design/geometery.

But I have haerd mention of gorunding only one end (uni-directional cable).

Hre is one comment from another forum:

"That is simply not true.If the braid is connected to the ground, then it
does indeed carry the same signal as the positive conductor."
