  1. For reference, the @ symbols in the drawing represent speakers, and their placement. The room I have is 18x19ft, not counting the equipment closet. Also note, Door A is never to be opened. This is a 7.1 set up. The speakers are RF-7 mains, RC-7 center, RS-7s surrounds, and actually using Pinnacle AC-650's for the rears, plus an old 100w Velodyne sub(you can see I'm still updating things). I would like some advice on how to position the speakers. How far should the front, and rear speakers be from the wall? The surrounds(RS-7s) are best placed on the wall obviously. Only my left surround can't go on the wall due to a built in desk, so I have it sitting on the edge of the desk, almost adjacent to the wall of the closet. Is this a problem accoustically? I have no trouble hearing it. Should the front and rear speakers be angled at my listening position? Also, I'm not as concerned about how good it sounds in the back row, as thats mostly only when we have company, mainly concerned about my position. I'm not concerned about sound leakage, great thing about this house, I can watch Matrix Reloaded on full blast at 2 AM without waking anyone up!
  2. We're moving into a new place and i need to know about where to place the surrounds particularly. I have an RF-7 based system, with RS-7s as the side surrounds. Refer to the drawing to see where I'm placing the speakers(ignore the dimensions in the drawing, as I walked it off, but the 20x17 is from actually measuring today). The seating position will be right in the center of the room. My question is, are they going to be too far from the seating position to appreciated? Also, the RF-7s sound best when in a corner right?
  3. I think the 3805 has pre-outs, not sure about that. Seperates are most definitly in my future, but it'll be a while. I figure I'll get a really good reciever in the 1k range, and in another 3 years or so upgrade to something at the 5k level(be it seperates or some uber reciever). As there are now a few recievers with 9.1 capabilities, I'll wait and see what developes in the next couple of years or so(10.1 new audio connections etc).
  4. I thought about going with Synergys, or even RF-3's or -5s, but I knew I wouldn't be able to rest as long as the 7s were out there. I've had a few people over to listen it, and they say they don't hear this level of precision as commercial parties, or even Imax. I can say, these combined with my CRT projector, make HT as enjoyable if not more so than the Imax experience.
  5. Thanks for the congrats, I really couldn't be happier! When I die, I intend to be buried in these speakers. So it could be a connection somewhere? Could it be a problem with some of th speaker wire itself? So basically I need to get a spot that makes the reciever shut down, and disconnect one speaker at a time, at the back of the reciever? I'm leaning toward the Denon as I did a comparison between the 3803 and several other amps in the same price range(Yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo), and the Denon sounded much better than the others to my ears. I'll of course do another comparison when the 3805 is in stores. Ultimate Electronics says their getting the 3805 tomorrow, so I'll know soon. Unfortunatly their demo room only has RF-5s hooked up, but I figure thats enough to determine which will sound best with my RF-7s.
  6. For the last few months I've been buying the Reference series speakers as I could afford them. First the center channel(RC-7), then the surrounds(RS-7s), and finally last week the RF-7s. I got them through Ultimate Electronics, who were nice enough to price match from online stores. My God the sound is so clear, I had no idea. Cars going by in movies, sound just like cars going by on the street outside, doors open in the surrounds, and I'm conviced someone entered the room. Music is so clear I can hear everything going in the recording studio. Funny thing is, my reciever is a lowly Pioneer D811S(cheapest I could find that does 7.1). During intense audio, it would make my old Pinnacle speakers clip(Lord of the Rings scenes mostly). Now with the Klipsch speakers, not only is that sound smooth, but it's doing something it never did before... During intense audio scenes, the reciever says "Overload" and shuts down(I didn't even know it could do that!). It shut down several times during U-571, which the Klipsch speakers were handling it easily. So now I guess it's time to upgrade the old reciever(thinking of the Denon 3805). But this thread was just express my awe at these speakers. I've never heard Led Zeppelin as I hear them now! Klipsch, you rock!
  7. Yeah next time I go in there when they have the 3805, I need to do a comparison of movie audio. But as dramatic as the difference was, I can't imagine the Denon being topped. I figured I wouldn't be able to tell any difference between them.
  8. Well shoot me in the foot! I went today to Ultimate Electronics to compare the Pioneer 55TX, Denon 3803(It'll do until the 3805 comes out), and Yamaha 2400. Due to weird problems, their 55 wouldn't make any sound, so I had to compare the 53(not really very different), and the only Yamaha in the room was the 1400(close enough). Denon vs Pioneer vs Yamaha, Denon won out big time. I liked the Pioneer over the Yamaha, but the Denon was the clear performer. We did and A-B test with a Stevie Ray Vaughn CD, and Klipsch RF-5s(again, the best that was in the room). Of course I couldn't use any MCACC features, but i think a test without it, is more fair anyway. I noticed immediatly how awkward the Pioneer was, as a great deal of the audio was coming from the center channel, where the Denon did a better job of spacing it out between the 3. The Denon is definitly a lot more bassy. The Pioneer and Yamaha were very flat by comparison. Of course I'll do more comparisons when the 3805 comes out, but for right now it looks like Denon is a shoe in. For right now, I figure there are big advances coming in the reciever field. So I'll get a nice one in the $1,000 range, and spend the 5k in 3-5 years or so.
  9. Does Marantz have a version of MCACC? I'm now looking at a Yamaha model, the RX-V2400 looks good, and it has YPAO. What othter brands have their own MCACC? This is a very important feature to me, in that everyone who has it, loves it, and it helps narrow down the dozens and dozens of choices. Also, who will elt me take an amp home for the night? The main place I go to is Ultimate Electronics, and I can't picture them loaning out recievers.
  10. Yeah more than likely I will end up with Pioneer then. I tend to like that brash, theatrical sound that makes the audience jump when the killer pops out. 99.8% of the time, I'll be watching movies or TV, music is mostly on my computer(which BTW, I have the Pro Media 5.1 from Klipsch ). I tend to think the Denon would be better suited for music. However, I'm still going to demo the both of them before I decide.
  11. I couldn't care less about the I-Link, I use an HTPC for DVD. But several people actually claim to have a Klipsch/Pioneer 55TX combo and are very happy with it. I'll audition them either in the store or at home(hopefully at home). I did audition the Denon 3803 once in Ultimate Electronics with the Klipsch RF-5s I think. I couldn't find a sales person to help me, so I had to set it up myself. I was distressed because i had to turn the volume way up on the Denon to get a good loud sound. I tried messing with different settings, but nothing really changed. Was their Denon not working properly or what?
  12. Sounds like the upcoming Denon 3805 will be the winner as it has all the features I want, more power, room eq, video conversion etc. I personally can't say wheither MCACC/Room Eq makes a difference, but your the first to say otherwise out of a TON of reviews I've read on it.
  13. I'm considering the following receivers for my HT: Yamaha RX-V2400 Denon 3803 Pioneer 53TX The winner will be driving a 7.1 Klipsch RF-7 based system. The Yamaha and the Denon are about the same for me. They both have video upconversion(which at this point is a very minor bonus for me), good reviews and plenty of connections. The Yahama has 120w per channel, is this a bonus over the 100w that the other recievers do? The Denon has one thing going for it against the Yamaha, It's Denon. It also has Bur Brown DACS, I don't know why, but I've been told that is a real plus. Is it? The Pioneer is the one I'm leaning towards because of the MCACC. No one has said anything bad about that feature, and everyone raves about it. Main drawback to the Pioneer, is the lack of connections(3 opticals are enough for me now, but what if I want to add anything). Needless to say, my budget is $1,000 or lower. What would you do in my place?
  14. A question I have to add to this. Is Ultimate Electronics an authorized dealer? They are a pretty big A/V chain and carry the FR-7s as well as many other Klipsch speakers.
  15. I've just started on my Reference series surround set up! I will be using RF-7s as mains, RS-7 surrounds and the RC-7 center(which is now on the way). I haven't yet decided what to do for the surround backs. I've considered buying a pair of Klipsch bookshelves of course, which would run $500. However, I'm upgrading from a Pinnacle set up, and I was thinking of using the Pinnacle AC-650's(currently my mains) as the rears instead. Afterall, I'm getting the black versions of the Klipsch(maple was so tempting, but I have an HT room with a projector, so the more black the better), and the Pinnacles are black. That, and so little sound even comes from the rears, even on DVDs with a 6.1 track. Would I be fine with the AC-650s, or would Klipsch bookshelves make a difference(and which bookshelves would best match the RF system)? http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=90048056&loc=111&sp=1
