I am proposing a class action law suit based on Klipsch's tortious failure to post a warning that keeping a potted plant and over watering on top of their speakers will leave a ring. Clearly they have failed in their duty to notify.

All the recommedations you've seen give great sound. Sound that 10 years ago would have broke the bank many times over. The sonic differences between them are going to be subtle nuances. What isnt subtle are the bells and whistles. I went with the Cambridge 640 because it is a front loader, full size and solid metal so I could stack gear. It has balanced outs which I use into my Mac gear. It has a Spidf in so I can by-pass the DAC in my Sonos when I want. Those were my 3 criteria that booked the sale.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Audioclassics. In advice and purchases and repairs they have been top notch. FWIW, there are several Mac dealers closer to me, but they are my preferred shop.
Their web advertised used prices are at the high end, but at least they make an effort to post a price.

she's a rust-free laser straight '66 21-window with 5 foot ragtop. In college in the early 80s I had a '67 that took me and as many as we could fit to many a Grateful Dead show. When I sold it, I promised myself I'd buy another someday. Someday finally came.
Now, instead of Dead shows, I pile the kids and dog in on Saturday mornings and we head to the deli for bagels before going to the lake.

What I find funny is I have 5 receivers stashed under the bed and my money in the market. I would have been better off to keep my money where my recivers are and left the receivers on ebay where I could buy them cheaper today.

Both. One of the great things about McIntosh gear (and klipsch too), is you can resell quickly and for little or no loss. Only way to know is to try each side by side, and then flip out of the one your wife likes the least.
At least that is how I buy all my gear.

I use dbpower amp. There are free alternatives out there, but I do a lot of ripping and it is the only option that allowed me the freedom for my naming conventions.
FLAC is the most popular choice for lossless compression.

Had a friend from germany over last night and he was blown away by my Belles / MC 275/C2200 set up. Another tube/valve + Klipsch convert.
Can anyone recommend a shop in Frankfurt or Bad Homburg that carries tube gear or Klipsch?

I have had both 1979 Cornwalls and 1976 Belles. Still have the Belles. At first the Cornwalls sounded wonderful, and then pretty suddenly, they sounded very distant, thin, & cold. The Belles never suffered from this phenomenon.
This rather dramatic sound degradation might have had something to do with my wife kicking me to the garage and demanding that the Corwalls be placed in the shed, where as the Belles live quite happily next to the potted plants in the family room.

Broke down and bought an iPod. My problem is I cant find an easy way to transfer my music files to iTunes. Currently I have a couple tb of .flac .shn and .wav files in folders organized by artist > album > song. I'd like to pick 4 dozen albums, reduce to mp3s and have them in my iTunes playlist.
When I import a folder (or file) using the iTunes app, I lose all the file info (meta data - album, artist, name). My work around now consists of converting to mp3s, use piccard (music brainz) to link meta data (when it exists in freedb), and then import. 3 applications and lots of time.
Does anyone know one-stop app that will do this?

To me, "Pop" is a sub genre of Rock, meant to convey music intended for popular culture - that is trying to appeal to the day's taste and not interested in musicianship. Pop also implies music made to make money, not art for arts sake. The Grateful Dead, pretty much stood for the opposite.
Trying to classify the Dead is not possible. The general term Rock fits, but with strong undertones of Blue Grass from Garcia, Blues (esp from the early days with Pig Pen), and Jazz, with enough americana experimental thrown in to keep you guessing.
What I find very interesting is a more recent sub genre - Jam Band - traces its roots directly to the Dead.
It makes me smile to think someone would listen to an April '77, or Summer '72, or December '79 show and think "pop". Maybe like listening to Miles Davis ******* Brew and thinking Dixieland.

Dan, though my wife would love it I sold an amp or 2 or 20, I have a disease which requires I horde amplifiers. I meant "@" as about the price I think you should be able to pick them up. I hope I am not too far off.
My Klipsch journey started with the Dyna St-70 + Pas, and then I built the Bottlehead Foreplay + 2A3, then the 300B, I then went to Scott 340B to Mac MC 30s + C22, and most recently MC2200 + MC250 mk 4. And in the end, I have warmest memories of the ST-70. Every step I take seems is 2 foward one back and 3 to the side from the St-70. (not too mention the closet full of SS gear)
If you ever want to listen, I am in North Jersey.

Dynaco St-70 amp and a PAS 3 pre amp. @ $500 for a pair in very good shape.
You wont regret it. The st-70 into Heresy's are magic, imho, ymmv, fwiw etc.
And the best thing about them, is if you dont like em or want to move on, you can flip on ebay for no loss.

I like Drobo simply because it is easy to use, quiet, and expanable. As I need more HD space, I simply buy a larger or additional drive, and swap it in hot. Drobo works with MAC from what I know, and as it is simply storage, it works for video or audio.

I use my 840c as the DAC for my Sonos. I am very very pleased. I also use it for the few cds that havent been ripped and FLACed to the NAS. You can switch between the source > dac and the cd with a one button.
