  1. dr-dezibel: I read you thread and have been watching for updates - let us know how your tests go this weekend - I'd be curious what you think. I can't take them home to test because the house isn't finished yet. I'm curious what you liked about the RF35 over the RF5. The dealer closest to me has them in seperate rooms. The RF35 anf RF7 are in one room, the RF5s and the rest of the reference line are in another. OBviously the RF7 blew away all but I thought the RF5s were better then the RF35s - even though i couldn't A/B them. m00n: yeah you're right. Problem is - she'll notice :-) any opinions on the RB75s - seems the the front firing would eliminate any concerns about placement near a wall.
  2. thanks all. I think that's good reasoning for going with the RSW15. Especially since I may have to go with the RF5s or maybe RF35s (see other post in HT section). The larger sub will help boost these smaller speakers.
  3. I like the RF7s - my issue is their size. I've mentioned this in other posts but really what I meant is that, from what I've read here, - to get the most from them, they need to be 2-3 feet from the wall. Well, that's too far - the WAF goes out the door. I can't take these to the room and try them out so I need some opinions: How much do I loose having them, let say, a foot from the wall? Where would RF5s or RF35s be placed? Would either of those provide better sound as oppose to stifling the RF7s? I was leaning towards the RF5s - but I've read lot of different opinions about the RF35 vs. the RF5s. I know neither will be as good as the RF7s but I should be able to get something decent together. I will match the center accordingly and pretty much decided on the RSW15 to help with the low end. I'm guessing bookshelf speakers are an option - but the only ones I like were the RB75s. And they seem too big for speaker stands (the old tip over factor) - maybe some one had pics of how they deal with them. Thanks as always.
  4. seems a little high. have recent quotes of under $1000 for pair of RF5s and $350 for RC35 from local dealer. I agree with the others - go authorized dealer for the warranty but a little haggling is not out of the ordinary - especially for the number of speakers you are buying. get a price you're happy with and don't look back.
  5. point taken - but how do i know before the room is even ready what is strain and what works. The RW10 could be sufficient and the RSW15 may never really see it's potential. I know it subjective question - just looking for opinions.
  6. Bruinsrme: what about the RF35s? Never heard the RF3IIs but the RF35 sounded a lot different then the RF7s. The RF5s seemed a lot closer. I just can see the RF5s matching the RC7 not the RC35. sivadselim: I think you just made my point - if I'm turning it down - then I don't need it to be that big.
  7. sorry for the double post but I seem to get more response in this forum then some of the others - not sure why. OK the room for those not keeping score- approx. 19x20x9. An acoustic nightmare. So - I think I've decided on the RF5s, three RFR5 in the ceiling, RC7 in a 6.1 setup. (I like the RF7s but the size makes me wonder about the WAF - think the RF5s are good trade off). It's the sub - Want to stay all Klipsch - RSW12 or RSW15? I know everyone will say bigger the better - but do I really need the RSW15. What might I miss by going with the smaller one? Seems like the RF5s kick out a good amount of base in their own right - for this size room - I don't know. I want good clean bass. Went through the same thing with the center - RF7 is large but I'm worried about the RC35 not matching nearly as well with the RF5s. The website says they do but......

  9. seems to be one of the area reviewers harp on at times is that Klipsch can be too bright or "harsh". A lot of folks in these forums attribute it a break in periods. Others have mention the dynamics of the particular room. There in lies my question. I have a poor room that I'm trying to make sound good. A few of the issues are potential a lot standing waves and a hardwood floor. My thoughts are this has the potential of making let's say a set of RF5s sound harsh. Wondering if anyone has thoughts or opinions on this. The wife is planning on putting down some sort of area rug at some point - but hard to tell how that may or may not absorb sound. yeah - I'm new at this so be kind....
  10. "The Sunfire Signature I have will play 31.5hz even louder then the RSW-15 will, however above 40hz...the RSW will be louder because of its musical peak. The Sunfire is a true subwoofer, its not ment to have any midbass, just subsonic bliss. Thats certainly not to say the RSW-15 can hold its own, because it most certainly can, but it won't play as loud in the 20hz-31.5hz area. ITs about even around 35hz." Ok, so is there a sub that does both?
  11. Can't do the RS7s - wife would kill me. Since I would have to mount the RSWs so high - I'm now leaning towards the RCRs in the ceiling. I heard ceiling mounted rears the other day that weren't as good as Klipsch and they sound better then I expected. Think I can make the RCRs work. I checked out a local Paradigm dealer. Good speakers. I liked the Monitor 11s - not as much as the Klipsch - but that was more of personal preference then quality. wasn't impressed with the dealer though - had a hard time getting anything to play - was surprise any of the speakers sounded that good given how unorganized they seemed. The guy I talked to recommend the PS1000 to go with the Monitor 11s. That seemed inadequate for those speakers. It sounds ok - but I'm a bad judge of subs. I didn't press the guy since I wasn't going to but the Paradigms anyways. On further review though - I would think that PW1200 would be a better match. I feel I can judge mains pretty good. But with subs - I'm just not good at hearing all the differences - unless someone points it out. Kind of why I was leaving towards Klisch for that - figure i can't go wrong per se. may not be the best -but their good. I just can't buy something unless I hear it first and there are few that I can find in this area. I went to the Paradigm Dealer because they carry Sunfires - of course they didn't have any in stock.

m00n: if you knew then what you do now - would you have gone right for the RSW15 first. Hard21: what's the room size?
  13. "Anyway, I found very little difference between the 12 and 15 - not enough to justify the extra costs and size (and I had the money and room for the 15, so it wasn't a compromise I needed to make). I've read some good things about the SVS line, but the RSW-12 is a great match with the Ref 7 series - both in sound and looks." That's nearly opposite of what someone else posted - the "theEar" I think. This person felt the RF7s outpaced the RSW12. Interesting how opinions vary. From what I gathered - positioning seems to be key for the RSWs. Going to check into the Sunfires - they seem to be highly regarded as well.
  14. thanks. the way the floorplan is setup is the way it will remain for the most part. She loves the layout - admittedly I do like it as well. Not touching the layout and putting inwalls for the rears helps the argument for larger fronts, center, sub.
  15. OK - after much discussion here and there, and with lots of feedback from the knowledgable folks on these forums - this is what I've come up with - which isn't that surprising. Mains: RF7 (possible RF5 depending on costs) Center: RC7 Surround: RCW5 single rear: RCW5 sub: RSW12 (possibly RSW15, or other brand) One of the biggest drivers here is that there is such a difference between the RC7 and RC35. Was there ever a RC5? I think i would be dissappointed by taking that step down. The RF35 were good (close to the RC5s i thought) - but not a good match with the RC7. Maybe someone with an RC35/RF35 setup can chime in. Otherwise - I'm still looking into subs. Got a thread going in the sub forum. Again it's more about size then anything. The RSW12 is be let alone the RSW15. I think the RSW12 will work fine - just hard to tell at this point. The room - for those not keeping track is an nightmare to setup. 19x19x9. There is a nice flat wall to set up the mains and center. Besides dimensions, every other wall has issues. One side wall as all windows, the other has two open exit ways. The back wall has a 7 foot arch way opening to one side. The RCWs will be mounted high - about 7 feet - to clear the window. To combat the height - they'll be mounted on it's "side" or perhaps upside down. (ceiling mounted RFR5 were considered but this method seems to have gotten a fewer positive responses from people) The house is still being built - so I can't try this stuff in the room - so we're going for best guess. The builder will install the RCWs and if I purchase all the speakers through their vendor - I get a pretty good price. Or at least as good as I've found on-line or locally (only one dealer here) OK - so let's hear any opinions if you have them. thanks for all thoughts and suggestions so far. My original plan was RF25s, RC25, two RFR3 and a RSW10 - I believe you people are a bad influence
  16. I'll check out the sunfires - any suggestions on where to purchase - not sure i've seen them locally?? How about Definitive Technology?? Sounded decent to me - but didn't really try them out much.
  17. no kids yet but they are in the planning stage. Plus the cats - we have one that is hefty and gets on everything - if it can be knocked over - he'll do it. That's a big yes on the sub. was thinking of the RSW12. RF7Rules: no i've never heard that setup. I can see how it would add - but I just didn't think it would be that dramatic since the rears/surrounds are more for fill and supplimental sound as oppose to fronts. not sure that makes sense.
  18. hey wheelman - what do you run? can you describe the room - why do small speakers work for you? have you tried larger/floorstanding?
  19. well let's just say we're in discussions on the size..... Don't get me wrong - she loves the sound of the RF7s - just wants them to be as big as a RS15. what stands would you put the RC7s on? There wouldn't be a way to bolt it to the stand - would there? Guess I'd consider it - since the stands wouldn't have to be that high. one foot would put it as tall as a RF25.
  20. looking at the RSW12....maybe the RSW15. The problem is the WAF. Their a bit big. Is there a brand that would match other Klipsch speakers (RF5, RCW5, etc) and perform as well as a RSW12 and yet not nearly as big? Hate to jump to a different company - but i have a better chance of getting bigger mains (rf7) if I get a smaller sub. Alternatively: can you put anything on a sub? hate to say it - but like potted plant or something. She wanted me to ask :-) seems like it would vibrate to much but they are solid. And of course it can't effect sound.
  21. m00n: I reread your other thread - you started looking for new rears/surrounds - and went with the RC7s. You found them so good - you believe they are good enough for mains. Just turn them on an end. Ok - I can buy into that - one question - would you just place them on the floor? They seem a bit big for a speaker stand and yet too small to just place on the floor. I'm not sure i like the speaker stand idea - so I'm dismissing the RB75s either way. RF5 might be a good thought. Have to check on the WAF. Hate to have to go smaller - RF35s?!? might give up a whole lot there.
  22. thanks boomer9911 - nice equipment all around. m00n: I did read your other thread or at least part of it - I'll go reread. I was under the impression that the RF7, RB75 and RF5 were timber matched with the RC7. I'm still confused as to how much each speaker contributes during a movie. Let's say i have a 6.1 system. With RCW5 for the three rears, an RSW12, and an RC7. Not thinking about music for a moment just movies - would I notice a diffence if using RF7 for mains as oppose to RB75 or RF5? If so can you describe what might be noticed. I think I've read some post were folks are using floorstanding speakers for rears - why would you do that?
  23. can't put this TV on a stand - at least I don't see how. So putting it underneath isn't an option. Not sure on the speakers other then they will be Klipsch. The rears will be RCW3 or 5 - 3 of them for a 6.1 set. The mains - that's where it gets tough. Bouncing between RF7, RF5 and RB75. Haven't ruled anything out completely. I know the RF7 are the best - but considering WAF and general size of the speakers - going a little smaller might help the overall project. Leaning towards the RSW12 for sub. But again that's a big speaker. My thinkiing is that if i go a little smaller on the mains - I can compensate with a larger sub - and then everyone is happy. The room itself is an acoustic nightmare - so I'm trying to find the best set up for it. It's 19x19x9. With several archways and a wall of windows. Volume is not as important as quality. I'm not even sure if front or rear firing woofers on the mains (RF7 vs RB75) would work best.
  24. Still trying to put together a good set up speakers. Considering the the RC7 - but not sure where to put it. Best place would be on top of my Toshiba 50" rear projection. But at 45lbs - that might be a too much. Any one know? I listened to the RC35 - but only briefly - consider it an option but not sure how much i'd loose.
  25. I'm running into similar issues. Appreciate the feedback. Some of the folks on this board are dead against rears in the ceiling but sometimes you just don't have any other options. Glad to hear it's viable option.
