  1. Thanks, You can never go wrong with more LaScalas. Any interest in a single out there?? And how about the match up?? Need more comments.[]
  2. I went and bought these last week and I'm going to pick them up in the twin cities this weekend. I currently have a pair of 89's, without the wheels of course. Looks like I'll have to change crossovers here too. I just needed one, but was having little luck finding one. How will this sound @ center channel with the different crossover? Have Dean G.'s A/AA in my 89's. I will probably be looking to part with one of these if anyone is interested; of course, I'll have checked them out by then. Cabinets look pretty good. Let me know what you think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270097392789&rd=1&rd=1
  3. I've learned my lesson on paying high dollars for AV equipment that will be quite outdated in 1 to 2 years. From my research and checking forums I think there's plenty out there below $3500 that will be quite adequate. I think with the options I have for placement and a fixed screen that I'll be fine without lens shift which seems to add quite a bit to the total cost. BB has a Sony LCD on closeout locally that had been $3500 down to $1499 just down the street, but I'm really leaning towards the DLP.
  4. It is a walk out basement which has a 12' walk out patio sliding door and a 4' window. I can close heavy curtains on both which makes it pretty dark, even in the daytime.
  5. I'm in the process of going from rear projection TV to Front Projection and want to do my research. Any HT people out there with some experience that will be helpful? Any information from what type of projector to brands and models would be great. I'm thinking right now about an Optima HD72.
  6. Just emailed Bill. Think we may work something out. Thanks for the tip. Any suggestions from anyone on LCD vs. DLP on a projector? Maybe I'll start a new topic regarding this.
  7. I am basing a lot of my decision on wanting to run a LaScala @ center. (Standing) I am working with an overall wall height of 7'11". The standing LaScala would be about 36". My main viewing seating will be 16' from the wall. I want to do a fixed screen. I would like to go to HD format. Plenty of ceiling room to place projector anywhere. Mostly watch HD television and movies. I just feel that until I place a LaScala at center position, I won't be happy with the center channel sound. Maybe a Cornwall would make me happy; it's about the only thing I haven't tried. Ideas??
  8. My measurements show that I should have between 52 and 54" above a center lascala to the ceiling. That should give me room for easily a 100" and maybe up to a 106" if I go to near the ceiling with my screen. Is this too high for viewing? My viewing position would be about 16' back from the wall. Still researching the whole front projector idea and would appreciate some do's and don't's on the subject. Should probably switch the title of my post to Front Projection newbie??
  9. I'm switching my room to front projection instead of my rptv and will put the 3rd lascala under the screen. Anyone doing it this way? Any recommendations on projectors?
  10. Sorry, Was out all afternoon and just got back. Thanks, but I think I'll continue to pursue the evasive single LaScala--it will be worth the wait. Thanks
  11. Come on Klipschters; not a comment on either topic?? I know the single lascala is a tough one, but how about some input on the THX line vs. Heritage. That's got to spur some conversation.
  12. I've been operating with pair of '89 LaScalas with BEC AA Crossovers and love them as mains. I've tried many things at center and can't seem to make anything work as well as I'd like with them. I've been trying to locate a single LaScala for center and have had 0 luck. Is there anyone out there with a single or that would be interested in splitting a pair off of eBay or Audiogon? There have been some single Belles, but I don't want to spend $1200 for my center and I don't know if that would be the best match anyway. Help!!! I have considered going to something else in the Klipsch lineup that would be easier on shipping and availability like KL-650-THX, but don't know if I'd be happy departing from the Heritage line. Any Input on that??
  13. I know that they're a bit high, but really having trouble finding one and one only. Unless someone bites on the idea, I'll keep looking.
  14. I don't suppose any of you "very nice" members would be interested in splitting these. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-PAIR-KLIPSCH-LA-SCALA-BIRCH-WITH-WALNUT-FINISH_W0QQitemZ220002292160QQihZ012QQcategoryZ50597QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I would need someone to pick them up and then arrange to have one shipped to me in North Dakota. I would of course pay for the speaker, shipping and something for your time and trouble. I really need a LaScala @ center between my 89's. I'm running a Heresy II and it just can't keep up. Worth a try, or if anyone out there has one for sale that would be great also.
  15. I may either have a speaker problem or processor setting issue. I don't know. I am running a McIntosh MHT 200 reciever and believe that it's a very good piece of equipment, but may have some settings that are causing these issues. It just seems that no matter how many times I reset my speaker levels with an SPL, the LaScalas have a tendency to overun the center. I've run an RC-7 at center, had a set of Chorus II and ran 1 at center, and have always wanted to try the Academy, but have not had success in purchasing one for what I would like to pay for one. I'm crossing @ 80hz in the processor and have tried other settings as well and noticed subtle differences, but not overwhelmingly better or worse. I may also be struggling with a room issue. The room is 16 deep from RPTV to back wall and about 22' side to side, however one side has a wall and the other side is totally open into an office area and dining area that is about the same size. I'm thinking of building a wall on the one open end. I'm not sure that I'm explaining things well enough on the dialog. I'm not sure that clarity is as much the problem as the center being overun and maybe this is due to the schematics of the room itself. I previously ran a Denon 4802 before the McIntosh and dealt with the same issues. I'm just tired of having people over to watch a movie and hear, wow, great sound, but I had a hard time hearing the speaking voices. Should I be thinking of running my center hotter than the other speakers, but then what is the purpose of the SPL measurements. I have never run a level disc, but only pink noise from my receivers, maybe I need to be going farther on my level settings.
