  1. I will say, I was and have been basing my system choices around 6.1 and not 5.1, the reason I was asking was I spent a couple of hours at a local DVD store and spent a lot of time looking for 6.1 product and apart from Star wars there was very little else to be found, So I was thinking maybe the studios were not spending the money on the good soundtracks for region 4 or demand for the 6.1 tracks had been quite low. I think at this stage I will set my system up for 6.1, I think it is going to save me time and money down the track.
  2. This is something I have pondered late at night when I couldn't sleep, How many of you have 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound? Is it worth setting up for 7.1 or 6.1 straight away when there is not a lot software EG: DVD's that support 6.1 or 7.1? I am going to wire my theatre room for future expansion but only using 5.1 for now, I will allow for 6.1/7.1 But I can only think of a couple of DVD's here in Australia that use 6.1 surround sound info EG: Star Wars with Dolby Digital EX but I know of nothing yet that has DTS 6.1 or 7.1 (And I'm not including any Music/concert DVD's, I'm refering strictly to movies) Your thoughts?
  3. These projectors are a bit of a nightmare, And then theres all the different ways they hook up and everyone has there own suggestion and what they found looked better. So far I have decided on the InFocus Screenplay 4805, it's a native 16:9 unit (Because it will only be running DVD's) all my TV/Cable and games will be done on a normal CRT Sony Wega screen, I'm still looking for my DVD. But this projector seems to keep coming up trumps the more I read and the more I research on it.
  4. Looks like a SVS subwoofer might be back on the cards, The guys from SVS sent me a new quote and it was well under what they thought origanlly, So if I purchase a 20-39PCi I think it will perform better than the Klipsch and most likely will be around the same price or cheaper! Excellent!
  5. Thanks for the Info Dougdrake, I have found these Forums and have picked up a lot of usefull info, In fact I think build my own screen on the info I have picked up.
  6. Thankyou for your help, I think I may have to give the SVS a miss sadly, the freight to me up in North Qld is astronomical! I got a Door to Door quote from the friendly guys at SVS and damn near fell off my Chair! By the time I imported it and paid the extra transport/brokerage fees it is nearly going to be $2000. Sadly blowing my budget by about $800, Looks like I'll stick with the Klipsch 12" Subwoofer, Probably not in the same league, But it has to better than my 2 farting Kenwood 8" subs! Ahh! the joys of living out in the Sticks!
  7. Thanks for the info, That "Golden rule" of which you speak makes a lot of sense, I think I'll stick to that one, One other rule I hear is that the projector should (in an ideal situation)should by inline with the top of the screen, I'm mounting the projector approx 12 - 13 feet back from the screen (as suggested by Screenplays website) So that means my projector will have to come down from the ceiling about 1 foot, it sounds about right to me, What do you think?
  8. Does anyone know of a good website with Information on projector mounting/Screen setups, heights, That sort of thing? I'm looking at using a Screenplay 4805 Projector with a 16:9 screen of 100 inches in size, Now I know the projector has to be approx 13 - 14 feet away from the screen, I guess what sort of height do I have to set the screen up for I will have a standard 8 foot ceiling height (or there abouts), SO is there a golden rule to how far up or down from the ceiling the screen has to be mounted? Or is it just what you find suits your watching requirements? I have spoken to a couple of dealers in the town where I live, But they only want to sell me a Plasma screen, I haven't seen a 100" Plasma, Have you? So any help or direction will be appreciated, Thanks.
  9. So if you don't mind me asking? How much did the whole effort cost you after the exchange rate was taken into account? What was the $300 for? Shipping/Handling/Dutys/GST? I'm looking at the 20-39PCi Subwoofer which sells in the USA for $595, I was looking at the PC Plus range but I think in my dedicated theatre room of 4 x 7 metres it will leave my current twin 8" 80 watt RMS kenwood system for dead, That peice of crap has useless lowend extension, It rumbles/grumbles and farts along, So I suspect the 20-39PCi should be a massive stepup from what I'm used to. Thanks for you help
  10. The room won't be very wide (about 4 metres) and I'll be setting up a 100 inch 16:9 front projection system, So I won't have to worry about laying the speaker(s) over, And I have decided the RB25's will be my best option for front, surrounds and centres (f/r) Thanks for the advice everyone.
  11. This is just a quick callout to any Australian SVS subwoofer owners, Just wondering what it cost you to import an SVS subwoofer? What nasty import fees/taxes/charges did you cop? I have sent a request to customs for some info but they take weeks to respond if they ever do. Or any other products you imported? What nasty surprises or dramas did you have?
  12. I don't think I'm a bass freak anyway I have 2 Rockford Fosgate 12" subs in my car, But oddly enough I don't enjoy massive bass in my home, Just nice and clean with good authority and definition, The theater will be set up in a dedicated theatre room with no windows or doors apart from the main door which will be closed during movie watching with a very heavy solid timber door, The room will be air conditioned. 2 walls will be concrete and the rest will be timber and with carpet on the floor, the room will be roughly 4 x 7 metres, I'm looking at a Projector from Screenplay (4805) so I'm trying to do this right.
  13. Yes, You are right about the cutoff freq, I suffered brain fade on that one . I am going to speak to Customs here in Australia to see what this will cost with Import dutys and taxes. The more I look at it the more I think I will use the RB25's for all 6 locations, So I will speak to my dealer about a getting a good deal on 3 pairs, I should be able to get a good deal on those, I'm currently looking at the Pioneer Amp/reciever the VSX-D814-s, It seems well featured and should have enough features and power for what I require, Plus also the Pioneer rep is a friend so I can get it at a very good price. I have read some good reviews about this amp also, So I think it will suffice for what I need to do.
  14. I'm not going to worry about side speakers, The room is not very big, But there has been a lot of talk that a lot more movies will be using the 6.1 (Dolby or DTS) sound standard (front L/R, Rear L/R, front and rear centre channels and of course the Sub channel) So the rear centre may not be that used a lot for now, But at least my system is ready for it as more titles become available (I hope!) The new Starwars DVD's (I & II) use Dolby Digital 6.1 don't they? Correct me if I'm wrong but Dolby digital and DTS 6.1 formats are just a rear centre channel aren't they? So what does 7.1 add the sound track? is that the side speakers I keep seeing or effects speakers?
  15. Up until a couple of days ago I had never heard of these guys, But they seem to have a very loyal customer following, I'm looking at building a system using RB-25 as front mains and rear surrounds, RC-25 for front and rear centre channels (6.1) So what would you suggest for Sub? I'm looking at the 20-39PCi I'm on a budget but if I have spend a little more for a bigger model I will but this seems to suit the best by my reckoning, So I need a subwoofer that will work well with my RB-25 book shelf speakers, Your thoughts or suggestions? I am not a massive bass freak, But some good bass authority would be great, I'm using 2 x 8" kenwoods at the moment (Yuck!) with very poor lowend extension, So I suspect this will be a staggering output and quality difference by comparison. Thanks for your advice.
  16. The more I read and discover I think I have decided on RB-25 for my front mains, A pair of RC-25 for my front and rear centre channel (for 6.1) The only thing I am torn on is either another set of RB-25's for rear surrounds or RS-25's instead, I must admit I am leaning towards the RB-25's, I currently have a Kenwood 21 series system with Diapole rear speakers But it has pretty average sound quality and 2 useless 8" subs But I must admit facing the tweeter/midrange towards me so I get a more direct sound from the surround speakers. I will also add, I am looking at an SVS Tube subwoofer like the 20-39pci, What do you think of this sub? Should I be looking at the higher Freq model to allow I'm using book shelf speakers? once again thanks for the help.
  17. Thanks for the responses, I would love to purchase Floor standers but my budget won't stretch that far, So I'm working on the basis of purchase a good quality set of bookshelf speakers like the RB25's (plus centers x 2 and rear surrounds) rather than purchase an average floor stander set and get average sound quality. As for the reciever this I have not decided on yet, I have a number of options but if you have any options or suggestions please advise, remembering I'm on a budget, I'm wanting to set my system up for 6.1 Dolby and DTS. I was looking at a Pioneer Amp that caught my eye, Seemed to be good bang for the bucks and had recieved some good reviews the VSXD814 for RRP of $899 Aussie dollars, But if any of you can suggest anything in a simialr price range I would be keen to check it out. A lot of you seem to suggest SVS subwoofers, These look like good gear, I will investigate futher.
  18. Hello all, I'm new to this Forum so forgive me if I make a few mistakes, Still learning. I have a few questions if I may, 1. I am considering a system comprised RB-25 for front and rear speakers or I was looking at the RS-25 for surround dutys, Your thoughts? I am not a big fan of floor standing speakers and want to get good performance while only having a small amount of space taken up by speakers 2. Now for centre channel duties I was considering using another set of RB-25 (Front and rear for 6.1), Or is it smarter to just use a dedicated centre channel? I have often wondered why not use the same speakers that are used for mains could not beused as front and rear centre channels, Surely the timbre and tonal qualitys will match better for a better sound stage as voice or sounds move around the room? Or would the dedicated centre channel give you a wider dispersion of sound? 3. Subwoofer duties - I was looking at the RW-12 as a good match, Your thoughts? Thanks for any help or advice you can offer, unfortunatley there is no dealer in my city that deals with Klipsch, So I have to do this all from memory, I heard a set at a dealer about 400kms away from me and I was very impressed, Seems in this town every one only wants to sell Denon/Bose or Yamaha.
