  1. Hello All, I am new to horn and have been very pleased with an Heresy I I just bought. I am currently driving it with a EL34 tube amp and I must say it works wonder at my home. I just bumped into the chance of getting a pair of JBL S2600 at a good price. Does anyone here knows if the more expensive S2600 is better than Heresy? Can JBL speakers be placed close to front wall? In general, do klipsch user also like JBL as they are both horns? Hope experts here can give me some insight. Much appreciated. Cheers. Ben P.S. I know my question can be silly. However, I have no idea what a good horn can really do. Given that heresy is the least expensive horn around, my jaw dropped with I first listened to it in my system. Since than, I always wanna know what would more expensive horn sound like.
  2. Hello all, I have bought a pair of Heresy 1 (1979) few days ago and have been fiddling with it. This speaker appears to be easy to drive but actually may not be so. So far, I have tried out the following amp - 1. Mesa Baron with 12 pcs of EL34 (60W in PP triode) - Great result! Problem is this amp is hooked to my main system and I cannot move it to my other room. 2. Old Muscial Fidelity P182 integrated amp (90W class A/B) - The bass is weak and the overall sound is lean and unpleasant. 3. Monarchy SE100d (100W class A) - The bass still lean but better than the P182. However, there is no horn-pressence. Also, there is a low level dee-dee sound from the mid horn once connected. This amp is dead silent when using my other speakers. (Have already tried cheaters plug to unground but does not work) This brings to my question - Is it a must to use tube to make it sing? I originally bought this pair of speaker for my bedroom easy listening. I did not plan to spend more money and just hook it up with my other leftover gears. However, after knowing the potential of it, I hope to better use it. I have an idea of getting a less expensive 4xEl34 PP integrated amp to match but afriad it will not be powerful enough. Hope to get some advices. Thanks in advance. Loss in the Klipsch space.... Cheers.
  3. Thanks for all the advices. This is indeed a very nice and helpful group. I planned to pair the heresy with Monarchy Audio SE100 amplifier. Hope they can get along well. Actually, I still don't know what to expect of Heresy. I do read that many people later changed the internal crossover. Guess I will have to go step by step. Thanks again.
  4. Hi all, I visited a friend lately and was very impressed with his horn system. The sound is very open and the "pressence" feeling is strong. This started my journey into looking for horn speakers. Given my limited budget and listening space, I have pinned down to Heresy. Bumped into an opportunity to get a Heresy I with K-55V midrange. Further checked the net and found this wonderful place. While browsing the messages here, seems that many people are using Heresy for home theatre. Would it be that Heresy is not good for audio? I plan to pair it with either a EL34 tube amp or a 100W class A solid state amp solely for audio. Would this move be asking for trouble? Since the one I am getting is probably 20+ year old. I am also wondering if the woofer needs to be recone every few years? (I cannot find a place to audition any Heresy in my area.) Hope to get some advices. Thanks in advance. Regards.
