  1. I think I'll probably just build a whole new board, id really like to keep my waranty in tact.
  2. Parts express has treated me pretty well in the past, I'll go for that. Do you know if there any values that will not have an exact match with the kimbers? Whats the prefered method to get exact? IE, the xover has 2.5uF in it, kimber only makes a 2uF or a 3uF(just an example!)? Two in parallel (two smaller caps = bigger value ), or two in series (two bigger caps = smaller value)? Or just get as close as you can and say ahhh hell with it? Part of the reason I think i've given up building my own speakers was Xover design. Thanks!
  3. I didnt have a chance to play with anything yesterday. Like I said I threw every amp i had at it the night i posted. The marantz 2275 sounding the least harsh which surprised the heck out of me. I figured for sure the fisher tube amps would be the softest sounding. Could very well be the recording though. Although I listened to the beatles shortly there after and found that harsh too... but then again i've thought that before about their recordings (was listening to revolver). But at the time I was pretty upset at the way they were sounding. I'm doing a bunch of searches in reguards to the crossover circuit as well. I'm not having much luck finding any facts on the resistor mod as of yet as it pertains to the rf5. I have an electrical background, so the work should be pretty straight forward. I've built and played with many other xovers in the past. I have no idea on how the crossover is designed though at this time. I have an old iasca (car stereo comp) disk around here. That would be about the only "hifi" cd I can think of that i may own. Tonight I should have some time to play with speaker wire, and setup. I've gotten a new rack to put everything on. Should give me more room to compare speakers. The room I do this in shouldn't be too bad. Its carpeted, has wallpaper and a sheetrock with that spray on ceiling. If anyone has any more info on the Xover mods Id appriciate it. I'm assuming the design is pretty sound, just an upgrade of the components... and I've also read something about changing a resistor value. I don't know what thats all about tho. I was considering going with Solens all the way though. Are the inductors pretty decent? I havent even looked at the originals yet. thanks again? I'm sure someones done this.
  4. could be my amp(s) but im really starting to doubt it. Ive hooked it to the amps i mentioned plus my marantz 2275, and my newer yamaha. Could be the cables though. I'll try those tomorrow. Any other suggestions besides pickin on my cheapo sonic t amp?
  5. I'm using a variety of amps. Right now im listening to them through a sonic t amp with a huge power supply. generally its either that or an old fisher x-202-c. Some music they sound really great on, but other is so harsh its almost hard to listen to at any volume (pearl jam yield - track 9). I've tried changing sources as well, only cd players right now. I'm running them with some ubyte (tnt-audio.com) speaker cables i made a few years ago. Any suggestions?
  6. anything i can do to make them sound a little less harsh?
  7. I agree asthetics are important, but the amp is so small i can hide it and look at my marantz and fisher gear instead. If asthetics werent important I dont think I would have gotten cherry rf5's, and would have gone for some rf3's. rf5s sound only slightly better imo, not quite as harsh.
  8. The sonic impact is a very small amp designed for use with computers and portable cd players. It uses a tripath chip and is considered a digital class t amplifier. I got mine at Target online for 30 dollars: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-1/qid=1103564350/ref=sr_2_1/601-1742435-2686501?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00009W44B I'm running mine on 8 AA batteries right now, but plan to hook it up to a power supply soon. My only complaint is the lack of impact on some bass. I listen to Perfect Circle, and track 2 on the 13 step cd is definately lacking some low end punch. I'm kind of hopefull the power supply will help this out (more current). There is also a review at www.sixmoons.com. I'm telling that you cant go wrong with it for the price. Its definately worth a listen, if you dont like it you can always send it to me.
  9. I'm very impressed with this little amp. I saw the raves on AA about it and thought what heck its cheap, so i tried it. As it "breaks in", it is starting to sound better and better than my Fisher x-202-c that I usually run them with. This thing sounds very tubish in the mids. It makes the rf5s sound very natural, not harsh at all. It also sets up a better soundstage then the Fisher to boot. This thing is crazy, because it sounds better than all my old tube and SS gear (fisher 800c, fisher x-202-c, marantz 2275). Tomorrow I'm going to put a big old power supply that i have on it instead of batteries. It puts out a very clean 12.35 volts. Anyone else listen to this thing? Anyone tore into it and made it sound even better? My only complaint is the lack of impact on some bass sections. That and the lack of a phono input. Whats a guy to do? Got to love the sensitity of the Klipsch speakers.
