  1. Truthfully, I do more of the movie watching whereas my dad tends to do more of the listening to music so we have to combine the two systems currently. I haven't actually heard anyone tell me before that I should try and seperate the music system from HT before, but it almost makes perfect sense to do so. Do you mean to say that you have a dedicated music listening room and a dedicated HT room? Ocasionally I listen to the odd sound track CD on my system (The Last Samuari, Gladiator) which sounds pretty good on the RF-7s but my favourite thing was listening to Hotel California from the Eagles DVD in DTS sound (before the disc decided to die). You've definetely convinced me to buy a subwoofer that's for sure but as that will have to wait due to budgetry reasons, is it likely that my HT experience will be improved vastly if I get a decent pair of surround speakers first? Like a pair of RS-7s or RS-3IIs? It's quite hard to hear anything from the rear speakers at the moment but there are too many factors why this could be including the fact that they're probably too high, too small, and poor quality cables. I'm really sorry if I sound like a rather pathetic newbie but as I've said a few times now, I really do appreciate all help and comments.
  2. I am leaning towards an all round Klipsch set up, for consistency and for looks, but I rather doubt I can afford the RSW-12 at this point in time. The system is actually my dad's, but as he isn't wiling to spend any more money on it, it means that if I want better HT experience, I have to upgrade it with my own money (I'm still a student stuck at uni - *sigh*). What do you think of the RSW-10? Is this a major compromise from the RSW-12? I guess I'm not in desperate need of a subwoofer right now, and will be able to manage with "flat" battle/explosive scenes for a bit longer. At least I can rest in the knowledge that I have the best system out of all my friends Thanks for the welcome by the way.
  3. Thanks for your suggestions. I suspected that I'd be better off with a subwoofer but wanted your opinions first. So why do people keep saying that a sub isn't required? When I watch big explosive scenes I always feel like something is missing but wasn't sure if that was because I'd wired my system with average cables or if it was because I was missing a subwoofer (stupid thought...I know) I'm off to do some research on subwoofers now, thanks again for your help.
  4. As a newbie, was wondering if you guys could help out at all. I've been told many times by various different people that with a pair of RF-'7's, I don't really need a subwoofer. My current system is: RF7, Some old KEF for rears (I can't even remember the model number... hopefully I will replace them soon) and the RC-3 II as a centre speaker. The receiver/amplifer is a Marantz SR9200. The system is used 50/50 for music and movies and the room is 4 x 6m which if I converted correctly, is ~13 x 19.7ft. So what are your thoughts? Should I get a subwoofer and if so, which one? I apologise for the format of this post if it looks really confusing and long but I can't figure out how to format is properly right now.
