  1. Thanks also Chris for your response. Now I'm really confused - you mean if I'm going to upgrade to Klipsch, I need to give up my cherished Mac amp and preamp and buy a low-powered tube amp? I'm not totally opposed to that (I know a couple people who would gladly take my Mac equipment off my hands) but could someone give me an idea for a speaker/amp set-up and what should expect to pay for it?
  2. Thanks DeanG for the response. I don't plan to get rid of the Mac amp and preamp for two-channel listening. Are you saying that the Khorns alone are sufficient to out-perform my XR-5s - or do I need some kind of subwoofer? What combination of Klipsch speakers should I be shooting for? And yes, I know the reference set-up I have for the HT system is way less than optimal - I got that to appease the wife and kids for HT only. My interest is in the two-channel setup and a plan to upgrade when possible. I do realize from my current Klipsch system the incedible efficiency of the Klipsch design. Its just that the premise behind the design and old speaker line designations are alien to me.
  3. As I have mentioned in some other posts, I am new to HT and have been out of the audio market for 30 years. I recently purchased a Denon AVR 1705, RF15, RC25, RS25s and RW10. While I am impressed with this system as far as movie watching goes, the sound is a little "thin" when I listen to CDs as compared to my "old" setup of Mac 2105, C26, and Mac XR5 speakers. I know nothing about the heritage speakers, BUT when I look at pictures of Cornwalls, Khorns, etc, it doesn't seem possible that essentially a woofer and a horn could match the richness/completeness/full spectrum (you chose the subjective term) that my Mac speakers produce. Please educate me about Klipsch and what level of Klipsch speaker I would need to match my old two channel system. Thanks for your time and help.
  4. Sorry for another beginner's question - when you all refer to "mains" in an HT system are you including center speaker and sub? If not the sub, wouldn't the RF15s be a little thin on the low end? When hooked up as you describe with the MAC 2105, will I be using the Denon as a preamp or do I need to still use the C-36 somehow? Thanks for your help
  5. Thanks for the responses - I guess I'll start working to integrate the systems into one. Do the Mac XR-5s get left out?? When I bought those at $1,000 a pair 30 years ago, I couldn't imagine I would ever want another set of speakers - I guess technology left me behind many years back! Thanks again, I'm anxious to hear the Klipsch's driven by the MAC.
  6. I just entered the arena of HT with the recent purchase of Denon AVR 1705 and RF15, RFC25, RFS25, and RW10. I initially thought that I would use this set-up for only TV and DVD watching and continue to listen to music on my 30-year old McIntosh 2105, C-36, and McIntosh XR-5 sperakers. HOWEVER, the more I listen to music on the Klipsch and Denon combo, the more I like it. Is there a way to combine the Denon/Klipsch and the McIntosh equipment (could I make the system better?) or should I keep them separated. THe Klipsch are in my living room, the Mac stuff is in another room. Thanks for any ideas.
  7. Thanks to all for your responses. I'll do some more experimenting with adjustments to the SW - I just purchased the HT equipment last weekend and really haven't had the time to explore yet. I am new to this Board but have already noticed there are a lot of good people and great info here. Thanks again.

  9. I recently purchased a "starter" setup for HT use - a Denon AVR 1705, RF 15s, RC 25, RS 25s, and RW 10. First, is the RW 10 considered "matched" for use with the other Klipsch speakers? And, with this level of setup is that really a consideration? Second, I have been listening to the same audio equipment for 31 years - McIntosh 2105 and C-36 preamp, and McIntosh XR-5 speakers. I am new to HT equipment and for the most part am pleased with the Klipsch speakers, BUT - the bass from the SW does not sound very "musical" to me. Is it merely the limitation of the equipment and something I will notice until I'm ready to spend money on more expensive equipment? I've enjoyed lurking the last couple of days on this Board and now realize that I know nothing about audio equipment - its a new world out there.
