  1. Does your AVR have a dialog normalization setting? I have an Onkyo TX-DS787 and one of the features it has is the ability the adjust the dialog levels for what I am listening to. Right now I notice that mine is set to +4. This increases volume for the center channel and keeps the remaining speakers at their set levels. There are some movies that are mixed poorly. I have watched a few horror movies over the years that have low dialog and when I increase the sound to hear the characters speak, the big scare pops out through my fronts and I nearly end up with a heart attack.
  2. Hey colterphoto1, Unfortunately, it isn't going to end at 9.1 I read an article where the author was saying that audio really won't get good until 12.1 surround kicks in. Yes, 12.1 surround. According to his placement chart you would have a center, a left-center and right-center, a left and right, right and left front prescence (to the side of your listening position and slightly ahead) a right and left rear prescence (to the side and slightly behind), a rear left, right and center channel speaker. Add in the sub for the .1 and you got yourself a fully encompassing field of sound and divorce papers from your wife. I hear the Terminator 3-d ride has true 64-channel sound on it. Of course, Jim Cameron can afford something like that. Sorry for the off topic rant there. I haven't heard anything about new audio formats (outside of the DPLIIx that came out on the newer receivers). I don't see radically new sound formats coming out in conjunction with HD-DVD (is it true what CNet said about HP declaring Blu-Ray the winner?). I don't think people will take to kindly to having to upgrade their DVD players (and possible TVs if 1080p starts making a charge) with DVD still being a relatively "new" technology for the majority of consumers. As far as upgradable receivers, I know Onkyo has that new 900 model out that is both software and hardware upgradable. Of course it comes in around $4,500 so you are definitely paying the piper now for future technology.
  3. Hey everyone. I am a long time owner of Klipsch speakers and I had a question about the new Synergy III C-3. I am currently using the Klipsch SF-3 floorstanding speakers that I got from Best Buy a few months ago. I have been wanting to upgrade the center (currently have the last gen SC-1). I have found the matching last gen SC-3 for my fronts online, but seeing as how the new line of Synergy's are in the stores I wanted to get some info regarding matching the C-3 with the SF-3. Obviously, it is preferable to match when possible, but I don't really want to spend the cash on yet another pair of fronts. So, anyone got any info on the possible matching problems with using this new line? And if I absolutely need to upgrade, I have 2 great SF-3s for sale! P.S.- Sorry if this has already been a thread. I looked for a while to find one that covers my issue, but didn't find anything yet.
