Tom Thanks Tom, I have a tendency as most do to be my own worst critic. With the exception of the above mentioned items, I am going to keep it simple and remain the purist that I strive to be.
  2. After lots of research and trial and error, we have located the hum in my system. The projector was the culprit and with a cheater plug we were able to eliminate the annoying hum. Thanks everyone for the input.

  4. I have recently completed my theater project and I have chronicled some of the process on this forum. Now of course, I have moved into the "I must have theater level stuff" mode. In addition to the Klipsch logo sign and Dolby Digital sign, I have acquired a solid stainless "reel" table for the theater. I got very lucky and found this one on Ebay for a fraction of what the Home Theater store guys have valued the item at. I guess my question for the day is do I go crazy with the memorabilia items or keep the theater tastefully simple? How about you fellow theater enthusiast, what direction have you folks gone? A photogragh of my latest find is attached.
  5. Looking for advice on an IR dimmer for the lighting in the theater. I am a big fan of Lutron and it has been recommended to me that the Spacer series dimmer is the way to go. I also have seen the Maestro series and was wondering about that one as well. The goal is to have the dimmer communicate with the Theater Master control.
  6. After being in sales for most of my adult life I can add a few things to consider. Regardless of what most advisors, sales people will tell you, the person helping you is on some form of a commission. It may be in the form of an hourly wage or salary but most always with a spiff for selling more items as incentive to move product. Sales people and stores in general want that instant gratification of a sale "right now", not in the future. With that in mind when I want to purchase larger ticket items I use the "what is your best out the door price today?" approach and be prepared to walk the walk and purchase if the price is right. The price quoted must be understood to include taxes or any other things i.e. delivery, etc. Also, once you have established a discount, also consider that the store is more apt to give you merchandise such as cables, accessories, free delivery etc. than to take off more money. As we all are finding out, the world of hardgoods has become so competitive that the position of power has shifted heavily in favor of the consumer with some disposable income. Good luck

  8. I have talked of my latest HT project at length but I thought I would share one of my other setups. In another of my "sound" rooms I have a setup that I quite enjoy for movies and music. For my Video side I have my first bigger screen TV, a 35" Mitsu Diamond tube before they stopped making them (circa 1997) and a Panasonic DVD player. For the Audio portion I have an Onkyo TX 494 receiver, the front three speakers are the NHT VS 1.2's in white lacquer (circa 1998). For the rears I have a pair of Klipsch Quintets also in white and a AR powered 10" sub. I know that this system is somewhat pieced together with different brands of speakers but if anyone has spent time with NHT's it is really an enjoyable experience. My first choice has always been Klipsch but I really think these speakers are my second choice as the clarity and crispness are very impressive.

I have a similar room in shape and size in the attic and find a big difference. Congratulations. Hamish ---------------- Thanks, Acoustically I feel that I get better sound diffusion with the slant ceilings. I had my sound guy liken it to the famous amphitheater in Sydney with similar angles just in a different position.
  10. Recently got all the equipment set and system going and now I am in the process of tweaking. I am running Adcom Pre/Pro setup with RF 7's, RC 7, RW 12 and RS 35's. I am getting a hum through the system, I have disconnected the cable from the HD box to no avail. I have disconnected the Sub, changed over to a non polarized plug and still I have the hum. I would add that I have always had some type of A/V receiver and this is my first foray into the seperates. Is this just part of owning a seperate amp? or can you folks give me some things to try? Thanks

Your place should sound killer. Nice job! ---------------- Thanks for the kind words, this project has been fun and frustrating all in one. And the sound is more than one man could hope for.
  12. I temporarily have my charging base for the Theater Master remote sitting on the speaker.

  15. I have finally completed the joint venture between myself, the General Contractor and the Sound guys. The challenge was to take an over the garage 13'x 22' bonus room and convert it into a dedicated Home Theater. As you can see by the photos the room shape is somewhat different in order to allow for the roof line of my house. The room had an open end with only a handrail so of course a wall with double doors was in order . I had 2 skylights that had to be blanked out and a platform to build, I also needed a recessed audio rack as not to take up valuable real estate within the room. The contractor provided all of the wall, platform and audio rack building as well as the knockdown texturing needed. I had the wonderful duty of painting the room and trim work as well as carpeting the platform and running the rope lighting. My sound guys ran the cables, mounted the projector, set the equipment and programmed the remote. I also provided all of the Klipsch RF 7's, RC 7, RS 35's and RW 12 speakers as the sound guys are not authorized dealers of Klipsch. I have included several photo's at differenct phases of the project.
  16. I recently installed the RF 7's in my theater and the RS 35's for the rears. The only concern I have had is that when I am in 5/6 channel stereo mode that the 35's will not be able to keep up with the RC 7 and RF's up front. That being said, I have not experienced terrible performance from the 35's but I believe that someday I will go with the RB 75's to replace the 35's for that reason.
  17. The seating I recently installed in my Theater has the Aura shakers installed. I split the bass signal from my pre-amp and sent it to a Jamo MPA-101 cube amp and I am very pleased with the result. My RW-12 still functions properly and the shakers have the desired result.
  18. The Sony I went with because of the upconversion to 720i/1080i. So far I am very impressed with the Sony Projector/Sony DVD player marriage. I know that the "search is over" statement is strong but maybe what I really meant was "the bank account is empty, so I should be happy with what I have for a long, long time".
  19. Well, the theater is 99 percent complete so I thought a report was due. We got the Adcom GTP 860 II and GFA 7607 7.1 amp wired, along with the Sony 975 DVD player, the Furman line conditioner and HD cable box. The preliminary results are better than I had anticipated, the Reference series is quite simply an incredible sound and feel. I have been a Klipsch man for many years with my KG's always impressing me and others but the Reference is my pinnacle, the search is over. More to come later....
  20. Thanks, I am running pre/pro Adcom GTP 860 II and a 7607 7.1 channel amp.
  21. Another shot of the Northshore project with the grills off to show that beautiful gold we all know and love.
  22. Thanks for the advice everyone , I will adjust the toe in of the towers. The screen is level but the ceiling and walls are way off thanks to the builder. The screen is 92".
  23. The theater project I have been working on for the past 4 months is nearly complete. The Dalite screen, Sony Projector went in today along with the RF 7's, RC 7, RW 12 and RS 35'S. Rope lights installed under the platform lip and all wiring run to audio rack. By week's end it should all be complete in time for the Sweet 16.
