Thanks everyone for the thoughts! I due currently have a 2 channel amp for the fronts so that is why I need a receiver with pre-outs. I am open to HK. What models should I be looking at? They certainly don't have the same value as the Onkyo. I am about 80/20 HT/Music if that makes any difference. How is the auto EQ on the HK. I really liked the Audessey XT because it has bass management.
Any thoughts on the Pioneer? It is also a very good value, although it does not auto EQ the sub.

Hello all! I have a 5.1 HT system with the RF-7s, RC-7, and RS-7's. I am currently running them via a Marantz sr-8400 with a Crown 2 channel amp for the RF-7's. I am looking to make and upgrade in the near future. My main requirement is that the receiver has pre-outs for my amp. My current options include:
Pioneer vsx-1121
Marantz 6006
Denon AVR-3312ci
Onkyo TX-NR809
Are there any opinions on how these receivers pair sound wise with my setup? Some have said the Denon doesn't sound well with the Klipsch, any thoughts?
I am certainly open to other suggestions.

Thank you for the responses! Do the Denon and Marantz have different sound qualities? Back when I purchased the SR8400 it was recommended to stay with a "warmer" amp section which I thought Marantz and Denon both had. HK has had some reliability problems in the past, is this still true!? Thanks again! Chad

Ok, can you elaborate a bit? WIll the speakers still be significantly under powered even with the cross over point? I am ok with spending the extra on a receiver with pre-outs, but just don't want to throw money away if there are alternatives. Thanks!

Hello all! I have the Rf-7 speakers for about 5 years now and love them! I am powering them with a Marantz sr-8400 with a separate crown 2-channel amp. I have always read the RF-7s were power hungry! I am looking to upgrade to a Denon/Marantz receiver and have noticed that the newer models lack pre-outs until getting into the higher dollar offerings. My main question is if I buy something like the Denon 2112 receiver which has all the other features I want and cross the mains over at 80hz, do I need a separate amp at this point? Will I be disappointed with the performance of the speakers with the receiver powering the mains instead of the 2 channel amp? Thank you all for your thoughts!

I bought the same 8400 at ubid. I have a crown 402 two channel amp running with my 8400 and I have been VERY happy with the combo now for over two years. I have listened to them with just the Marantz but the quality is much better with the crown in the setup. Let me know if you have any other questions! Chad

I highly recommend them as well. I bought all my belden speaker wire, two 40 ft subwoofer cables, digital coax, and 30 DVI cable from them. VERY high quality without the "monster" price!!!!!!! Chad

You're welcome! Actually if you want to use the set-up in all
channel stereo mode then the RF-35's will defeinitely get more
use. I have the RF-7's, RC-7, RS-7's, and RB-75's for the rears
and I did so knowing that I would be doing the same thing! I
think you made a good move. Now if you were ONLY doing movies,
they would be alittle overkill. Of course, speakers can be
similar to horsepower.....too much is never enough!!! Chad

This is THX's design for using direct radiating speakers in a 7.1
channel setup. Also with the dipole surraounds such as the
RS-35's you will get a more enveloping sound if they are opposite each
other as compared to right next to each other. Now, if you had 4
RS-35's then you would not have this issue. I think the RF-35's
are very nice speakers and you will like them in this setup, just used
as rear surrounds would be better I think. Does anyone else want

Welcome to the forum! I am not sure if I am understanding you
correctly but I would recommend that you put the second set of RF-35's
directly behind you for the rear surrounds. The RS-35's should be
to your sides when listening to movies. I hope this makes sense
and that I understood you setup right!! Enjoy!! Chad

I would think about getting the RF-7's now as the new Reference line is
coming out. You will not be able to buy new from an authorized
dealer soon. If buying used is ok then you can hold off.

I know everyone has heard about the new reference line coming out but
has anyone heard of how long the current reference products will be on
the shelves. I am looking at purchasing some rear surrounds and
don't want to come up empty-handed when I finally decide on which model

You might want to check out the oppo DVD player. Save yourself
some green and a VERY nice machine. Check out oppodigital.com for
the specs. Home theater secrets I believe was the website
(someone correct me if I am wrong) that did a benchmark test on
it. Faired the 2nd best out of dvd players costing well over a
grand!!

Hi everyone. I am a long-time lurker but rarely write in. I
am sure this has been asked before but I had a difficult finding the
exact answer I was looking for. First off, here is my set up:
RF-7
RC-7
RS-7
Marantz 8400
XLS-402 Crown amp for fronts
Oppo DVD Player
Optoma Front PJ
I listen usually 75% HT and 25% music. I would like to change to
a 7.1 setup. When I listen to music it usually is two-channel but
I have not had alot of experience with multi-channel music. I
would like to know what recs there are for the rear-surrounds.
Should I get another pair of RS-7s, RB-75's, or RB-35's. Do the
35's match the timbre of the R-7 package? I would like to
save some money as well, so if the less expensive will be reasonable,
that would work better for my budget!! Thanks for the

22x17x48 inches approximately!! These things age indeed huge!! I have a 1990 Buick Lesabre and I could barely fit one in the back seat (4 door). I had to make two trips. The corolla ma be a VERY tight fit to get one in. Hopefully it will work!! Good luck!! Chad

Sorry, haven't been on the forum in a day or two. Yeah, I live in Omaha, NE. Bought the set at Nebraska Furniture Mart. Once a year they have an annual stockholders meeting and they give near-employee prices on almost everything in the store for stockholders. So, the deal is not going on right now. Would be glad to help any of those (to a given point

I paid 624.80 each for the RF-7's, 454.40 for the RC-7, and 255.60 each for the RS-7's!!! I think I made out alright on the deal. That does not include taxes but it is from an authorized dealership, still in business!!!!
Total for the the pacakge: 2215.20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys! I will be looking at the 3600 as it has pre-outs. How is the reliability of the HK units? Does their auto EQ also EQ the sub as well? Any comments from 3600 owners?
