  1. I donno about the 1000's of double blind test(btw these test are flawed in many ways), but the only test I need is the test I have done myself with the few cables I have. I can tell a definite differance bewtween them. I have tw type of speaker cables right now Exposure Black cable which is a 12ga copper cable that is spaced like Naim or Linn cables, and a Music and Sound Black cable which is made up of 3x22ga and 3x16ga silver coated copper per channel. The Exposure cable sounds warmer and a bit rolled of on top with very big bass, the Music and Sound cable definitly has a brighter sound with a cleared midrange and leaner bass. I have had my brother swap cables without me knowing and I could tell the differance. Its mainly the bass that I can tell the differance. I can also hear a differance between the three interconnects I have (straightwire Serenade, Encore and Stealth ETS), The Straightwire cables are warmer with more bass than the Stealth silver cable which is leaner sounding and more extended on top. But I can tell the differance , buut my DAD could not. Now I know I have much better hearing than him he is in his mid 5o's and his hearing isnt the greatest any more so I doono if this has alot to do with it. Maybe the people that cant hear the differance dont have perfect hearing?? For some reason it has been my experience that its usually older guys that cant hear the differance, I think they are just so set in thier ways that they dont wanna believe it makes a differance, and or that thier hearing just isnt as good as my 26 yesr old ears?? But I can hear a differance and thats realy all that counts. So if anyone wants to give me some useful advice on a good speaker cable than you if you are going to reccomend zip cord dont bother because I have tried all the cheap cables(zip cord, magnet wire....ect) and havent found one that sounded as good as my midpriced straightwire cables.

    Thanks

    frank

  2. If you guys can solder you can do the mods yourself all ya gotta do is replace to tweeter caps with some auricaps and the woofer caps to solen, change out the resistors to some Mills and your finished. Not very difficult. I did the Xovers in my RF-3's and the differance was subtle but there. But if you dont feel confident with a soldering iron, send the xovers to DEAn so you dont ruin your speakers.

  3. Another thing is that inductance and capticance(i know thats spelled wrong sorry) both have alot to do with how an amplifier reacts with the speaker and differane cables have differant ratios of inductance to capcitance which will effect the sound. For example amps like Naim and Exposure that do not use Zobels on thier outputs are very sensitive to high inductance cables which is why they used the "spaced cables". try using a high inductance wire on your Naim amp it wont sound right.

  4. My arguement is just that your compnents including your cables should match the rest of your system in quality. There is no use argueing with you if you cant hear a differance thats fine with me. I never said anything abiut $200/ft cables either. Was considering something more along the lines of maybe $25 a foot or less. System matching is very important and cables are part of it. Its the same idea as not using a $50 dvd player and a $200 reciever that you buy at Circuit City with a good quality spekaer like the RF-7 or something similar. Why should cables be any differant?? All I know is that I can hear the differance and thats all that counts, and I am by no means rich so I wouldnt waste money when its not needed, if you look at my system you will see that is on the budget end of the spectrum, only reason I even have expensive cables right now is cuz i got them for free, Ive actually never spend a penny on a cable. Good to have friends with money who are into hifi:)

  5. I think that you can put together an extremely good system for under 10k that will give you 95% of what you get from the mega buck systems.

    Klipsch RF-7 $2500

    Cary Sli-80 sig $3200

    Cary 303/200 $3000

cables, power condioner, room treatments $1300

Just an example but you would be hard pressed to find a system that would do much better than this even for double or triple the price

  6. I think that to a certain extent you will get much better quality from a $5000 amp compared to a $500 one. But I dont really think that the parts are that much more expensive in the $5000 amp to justify the cost. I could be wrong though. It has alot to do with the details and if the product is hand made and where its made. Obviously a hand made American amp will cost more than a mass produced Chinese amp for lots of reasons, cost of labor is a big one, quality of part is another...ect But I still have not figured what a $8000 amp has thats makes it so much more than a $4000 amp. You get to apoint where if you spend more money you only get a very little change in performance. i have found the magic number to be somewhere in the 3-$5000 range for amplifiers, once you get over around $5000 you really get very small increases in sound quality. Its the law of diminishing returns. For example the $2000 amp will probably give you 90% of the sound quality of the $5000 amp and the $5000 amp will give you 99% of the 10,000 amp and so on....ect

  7. Do you remeber the guys who said that all amps and cd player sounded the same. I guess you guys who believe cables all sound the same also believe this? I kinda wish this was the case so i could just go buy a $50 cd player and $200 reciever and get great sound, but we all know this isnt gonna happen. So to each thier own I was just asjking for advice an speaker cables that work well with Klispch wasnt looking to start an arguement. Why do people insist on argueing instead of just giving good advice.

  8. One other thing, for those of you who say that cables color the sound, who cares if it sound good?? Im not one of those people who believes you have to have a ruler flat freq responce to have good sound, it may look great on paper doesnt mean it will sound good, all amps, sources and speakers are colored there is no such thing as a perfectly nuetral component. So instead of worrying about colorations just listen to what sounds good, I thinmk alot of people lose thae idea of just enjoying the music which is why most of us are in this hobby, although I guess there are some who just like to buy the latest and greatest and most expensive just to feel good about themselves. I am not rich by any means and if I listened to zip cord and it sounded good by all means I would use it. Another thing is that if your spending $2500 on speakers and $2000 on an amp and $1500 on a cd player why would you buy $5 cables to hook it up? If nothing else the higher end cables use better quality copper or silver and better terminations, Im not saying to go out and spnd $5000 on a set of cables but to spend $50 for an interconnect or $200 on a speaker cable doesnt seem to be that crazy in a $5000 system. Anyone else agree?

  9. Also if there is no differance in cables why would klipsch spend the money on using Monster cable to wire its Referance series speakers. I seriously doubt a big company like Klipsch would waste money on wire that doesnt improve the sound. Also some people have better hearing than others so some will here minor changes more than others. Im not saying the expensive cables will definitly sound better but for sure differant cables sound differant and that is why some will sound better than others to some people. I for one have heard differances in my system with differant cables, i dont understand why people have to argue about this. If I can hear the differance why must people argue that I dont, how can they possibly know what I hear?? there is no need to argue about it everyone hears differantly and thats all you have to say.

  10. If you cant tell the sifferance in sound between cables you need to have your ears checked. Goto your nearest dealer and get a good quality cable on loan like Nordost, Kimber...ect Then listen to them compared to regular 12ga copper I garuntee youll hear the differance. Then again it really depends on your system. If your using a reciever and DVD player chances are you wil not hear much of an improvement, but if your stuff is decent regular 12ga is not showing your systems full potential. One other thing is that Im not saying the expensive cable will sound better, just differant, wheter that differance is better or worse is totally subjective to the preson listening. Everyone hears differance and has a differant idea of what is good and what is bad sound. That is why you cant really tell much about the way a component sound just by reading reviews and stuff like that. What sounds good to one may sound crappy to another. But generally most people will choose a nice $5000 system over a $100 boombox...;)

  11. I have listened to more than my share of amps, and while I started out actually wanting to save for the Blueberry/vrd since everyone seemed to reccomend it, I have to say that I would never buy it, I like to deal with people that a re a bit more professional. And that is the last you shall hear from me goodbye and thanks to all the people who actually did help and didnt just try to sell me thier amp.

  12. I dont think you can get bored with the "britsh sound" thats the one good thing about it, stuff like Naim or Exposure has some of the best rythm and timing(PRAT) and really gets you into the music. I find it hard to believe the Stingray/Rf-7 will "peel my ears off", even with good solid state I dont dfind Klipsch to be that bright and since the Stingray uses tubes it will be smoother than most SS amps up top. If the Naim Nait 3 didnt peel my ears off theres no way any tube design will, its all about having a good source thats most important, if your source isnt bright and harsh your ok. And I do think for myself thats why im not buying into the VRD being the "best" amp around. Im sure its great but there is no "best" amp just differant. Thank you guys for turning me totally off to this forum I will no long bother you, i will stick to the AA forum where selling your product on the forum is not allowed.

    thanks again

  13. One final comment. I am basically redoing my whole system except my source Ah! Tjoeb 4000. I havent even decided on a definite speaker choice yet the RF-7 is at the top of my list but I still have many others to listen to. The whole idea of buying the used Stingray was just to try a PP tube amp with the Klipschs to see how I liked it and if I have to resell it i wont lose money. Im not even sure if Im gonna go with Klipsch and tubes yet, I kinda like the Britsh sound for rock music, much more forgiving of bad recordings and has great rythm and timing compared to most american stuff. I heard an all Naim system that really rocked. Anyways the whole idea was just to try differant stuff without much monetary risk.

  14. I havent heard the Stingray but have heard many other Manley amps including the Mahi which is basically the power amp version of a Stingray. I just dont like when people like to put down other products just so they can sell thier own thats not very professional and , thats not what forums are for. Im not the only person who feels this way either as i have recieved a few Emails from other people who fell the same. Forums are for helping pepople and getting advice and information, not making a buck. Im sure the VRD's are great amps but the way he makes it seem is that nothing compares to them, when we all know there are tons of great amps out there. Even after I explained that I couldnt afford the Blueberry/VRD combo he still insists I wouldnt be happy with the Manley amp thats in my price range.

  15. What do you guys reccomend for speaker cables with the RF-3 and RF-7's?? Right now Im using a double Bi-wire run of Exposures Black cable. But I would like to upgrade to something better. Exposure reccomends Nordost but I think that may be a little bright sounding with the Klispchs as Nordost tend to be very nuetral sounding and I think I need a cable thats a bit on the warm side. BTW Exposure amps dont like cables with High inductance so cables like Kimber 8tc are out of the question, the amps like spaced cables like Naim or Linns cables. So what do you guys think?? Should I just try the Nordost Blue Heavens and see how I like them?? I read the the Blue Heaven is the most warm sounding Nordost cable so maybe it will work well with my system??

    Ah! Super Tjoeb 4000/upsampled

    Exposure XV integrated amp

    Klipsch RF-3(soon to be RF-7's)

    StraightWire Serenade interconnects

Exposure Black double Bi-wire speaker cable

  16. Whats with the anit Manley Labs vibe I get from this room?? I bet none of you have even heard any of thier stuff. And how cool is a chick that designs tube amps!! I like Manleys stuff because it has all the good points of SS that most tube amps dont, like nice tight deep bass and highs that arent rolled off, but they dont sacrifice the tube warmth we all love. I think this is why there stuff worlks so well on rock n roll. I am not putting down the Juicy music or NOSvalve stuff, it just seems like you guys worship these amps like they are the only amps out there. there is other good stuff around. Im sure the Blueberry?VRD is excellent but at almost $4000 its a bit pricey to use with a pair of $2000 Klipsch speakers. I mean for $4000 there are a hell of alot of other choices out there. Personally I think I would go with a tubed pre and SS power amp combination. That gives you the best of both worlds

  17. Most integrated tube amps just use a passive to control the volume. Theres really no need for a active pre if your using a cd player that puts out 2v+. My last tube amp only needed 1v to put out its max power. i tried it both active and passive pre-amped and the passive was better. Im a strong beleiver that the less thats in the signal path the better. Why would you want a bunch of tubes, caps, resistirs, wire...ect in your signal path if you dont need to?
