I'm helping my uncle design a new home theater and I am asking for everyone's advice. He is by no means an audiophile, but he tends to spend a great deal of time watching movies/Tivo and rarely listens to music. My goal is to put together a system that sounds better than his old setup without spending a bunch of $.
His old setup:
KEF center, bookshelf fronts, 2 15" KEF subs, and ceiling mounted rears. The room size was approximately 25'x25' and probably 23' ceilings (big room). These were ran using a Pioneer Elite from 1998 that doesn't even support component. He has a 65" Pioneer Elite that is the same age.
Here's what I was thinking about getting:
Receiver:
Denon 1905, Denon 2105, Marantz SR4500 or Marantz SR5500
Center: SC-1 - $125, Fronts: SF-1 - $300, Rears: SS-1 - $250, Sub: Paradigm PDR-12 $450?
These are obviously older models and I was thinking of going this route because the SF-1's are pretty cheap at Ovation in Indy and I can get the rest a lot less than original msrp on ebay. They should also all match.
Now for my questions:
1. What would you recommend?
2. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on these components?
3. Not really a question, but I just wanted to isD all of your feedback.
Thanks,
Keith
